Slightly tangential: my son (7), who is very much into Pokemon, cards and all, recently picked up a Yo-Kai Watch 3DS game for the first time--and after playing it with him / watching, I'm amazed by how much more inventive it is than anything I've seen from Gamefreak. Actually amusing dialogue, cool locations, exciting battles, weird ideas... made me realize all that I've been missing in his Pokemon games. I love battling Pokemon cards with my son, but let's be honest, GameFreak is borderline braindead when it comes to even the slightest inventiveness in its games.

I dont think Pokemon needs to be that intense with its graphics, they should do what Gust did with Atelier Ryza.

Atelier Ryza graphics its not high tech but it visuals just pops and looks gorgeous! change of art direction did wonders with overall visuals of that game.

Come on. You can't expect a minor, mostly unknown game like Pokemon to compare with a powerhouse game like Atelier Ryza.

That is just unfair expectations.

Gamefreak is the most anti-consumer company, they don't care they'll never care.

The same can be said about Nintendo, and more so Nintendo of America. Nobody calls them out on anything, if they do theres an army full of fanbois/apologists to blast the dissenters into irrelevancy they're the Disney of the gaming world.

Hire a million developers to develop parts of a game and you'll just end up with a soulless Ubisoft checkbox.

Mostly joking anyway. It's just a fun way to imagine what Pokemon could look like if touched by some of the more creative forces out there, not something I see as remotely realistic.

I've been playing for a couple hours. Got the 2nd gym badge last night. And yup this is very much still a 3DS game, not even just the models, but everything really. Static as hell Pokemon, robotic NPC's, tile like paths are still a thing, framerate dips, really terrible dialogue (even more so than usual) and more. I don't think its a terrible game, there is definitely some fun to be had. I like the open world area for finding different kinds of Pokemon and replacing the ugly as fuck ones from this newer gen. My Hitmochan is so beast right now. And I like that you can explore outside your level range and have to run due to being way too weak. The dynamax mechanic is actually kinda interesting too as I can see how it'll shake things up in battles against real people (only works for 3 turns and no item needs to be held by the pokemon). I'm hoping this outrage will really light a fire under GameFreak's ass and get them to take that big leap with designing the next Pokemon game.

Edit: I wanted to add if the removal of some Pokemon and moves was for GameFreak possibly trying to balance the game, honestly I applaud it. No legendaries is not a total loss i feel if only because they're clearly in a tier of their own and you get people that will just use the best most Meta shit ever to win. No more ultra beasts or those genie pokemon that had alternate forms! I also saw some moves got way better like Rapid Spin also increases the speed stat by 1 stage. If there's more things like that to make some of the other Pokemon viable again and balance the game I'm not mad at the cut Pokemon. But that's only if that was GF's intention

I do love the total refusal just to look plain facts in the face on here, the people on here and other internet gaming forums and YouTube who complain about these games are in the minority, the mass Pokemon fans that will buy these games do simply not care or even know about the issues we are talking about, or the fact they are even being discussed in the first place, they will enjoy these games because they are the new Pokemon games and are fun, they do not give a damn about the graphics or frame rates etc, the games will sell millions of copies and of course the inevitable mantra of "the masses will buy anything Pokemon related" will be posted on here, any changes to the engine going forward will be more to do with gameFreak getting to grips with the Switch hardware than anything posted by the minorities on the internet.

Game Freak not being capable of producing a high end game is only more reason people should have criticisms.
I look at what other studios have done for their stagnant series like BOTW, God of War, Resident Evil 2 remake, Monster Hunter World games that are bursting with AMBITION by developers that wanted to make greatness and I want that in a Pokemon game as well because I love Pokemon!
I imagine my dream Pokemon game set in big open world with many different environments and Pokemon living in those environments some common some rare. you set out on your journey and along the way you meet npc's and do side quests, problem solving with them, rescuing Pokemon in danger or something.
I want there to be environmental puzzles that you use your Pokemon's abilities to solve
and I want the trainers you battle to react more contextually to you and your Pokemon, for example if you throw out a legendary there would be surprised or if you were the Pokemon league champion they would acknowledge that. and much more but i'll stop for now.

Granted games like that take time to make but many other studios still do so much Even with yearly franchises like assassins creed for example. Not a game i'm a fan of, but i acknowledge the work that goes into making them. They operate at a scale game freak should be at and they do it with so much less revenue.

I would love to see this as well, but I am not going to act pissy and surprised like certain members have been around here when Gamefreak does the exact thing Gamefreak has always done.

But on twitter people should try to remain mature. (of course they won't) they shouldn't be surprised but they should express their discontent as thats the first step to Game Freak doing something if they're going to do anything at all or like Mozza said maybe they will never care and were just going to do gradual improvements over the gen anyway.

I DON'T like it. I hope everyone who does has a good time, but I think it's time to hold GF accountable.
For cutting features,
for lying about why those features were cut,
and for not even muttering a peep for all the other shit they just cut out of the game, hoping we would buy their product expecting them to still be there.

And what I don't like most, is that I still put so much emotional energy into this series, because it has been with me for more than half of my life.

GameFreak only does patches for game-breaking bugs. I think they don't even know about the concept of DLC, let alone, free DLC, yet.

They had like 15 years to prepare for modern console deveopment and they still act like they're 20 years behind.

It's because the 10 year-olds that grew up with Pokémon are now adults who expect a little more than "just good enough".

This demographic is just ignored by Gamefreak, The pokémon Company AND Nintendo.

The fact that Game Freak still caters to a young audience and doesn't attend to the demographic that have grown up with the franchise is part of the problem.

It took a while before I finally realized it was just supposed to say flashy.
