I've never been of a Xbox but Xbox Series X looks amazing.

I am a big fan of Playstation and also a fan of the Apple design aesthetic.

What MS introduced yesterday and the other information that has come out from other sources puts them firmly in the drivers seat for the next generation. I can't really see any weaknesses in their strategy at all anymore. I'm not necessarily saying they'll be number one next gen, but they have a lot to be proud of.

This thread is specifically about the design of the console itself though.

It's absolutely timeless. They took the black monolith concept and took it to it's logical conclusion.

I have the fear that anything Sony reveals now will look crude in comparison. I mean, look at the dev kit - that thing is ugly, and I know that is not at all representative of the final console, but my fear is that Sony are lacking in design philosophy department.

Regardless, I'm more pumped now to see what Sony will do, cos whatever it is, it's gonna have to be absolutely killer if they want to continue with the level of mindshare they held this gen.

MS have my interest piqued after yesterday's reveal, and in my book, that's a massive win for them.

Edit: forgot to mention - name is still shit.

It's certainly different. There hasn't been a console shaped like a column.

So now we've had cubes, slabs, columns, and the N64 (?)

But still no sphere,....... Sony.

Report me if I continue to console war
Yes, I love simple design And having a cube like shape is very cool.

It's also the right thing to do to let the design goal dictate the design of the casing rather then it be the other way round.
Phil just gave the hardware team the performance that he wanted and let them just make it. This is the way it should be.

I love the new look. Simple tower. The concave top with the green light under the grill looks awesome.

Does this reveal mean there isn't another version to announce later next year? Just one Xbox that devs have to develop for?

If it ends up being a different looking option from the norm then I think it works well. If Sony have something similar to the last few gens then Microsoft’s design stands out as something a little different and I’m all for that. I certainly don’t dislike it, it looks good enough.

I like it, it looks like it belongs in a high end home theatre setup. It's not gaudy or childish but still interesting enough to invite commentary.
I understood what they were going with when the 360 launched but it always looked a bit goofy next to the other HT components.
I'm excited to see what Sony goes with, how they both tackle cooling based on the shape of the case.
I CANNOT wait for the teardown to see how they arranged the innards

It does, I dont think Microsoft will make the same fuck ups, its gonna come down to price and exclusives for me. Halo infinite, some jrpg type game and a new fable will draw me for sure.

I love the design but it feels unpractical. Like it has to be put it in certain way. Like its shown in the trailer, its too big to be part of an entertainment center, so it has to be on its side and that way it doesn't look that cool. Or it will have to live outside the TV area, like a PC.

It feels more like a Mac than a console.

What counts is a solid box of specs and at a reasonable price.

The new Series X unit itself is literally a black brick. Nothing special looking about it.

If it was white it would look like the Linksys Velop wifi system. Now, I'm not saying that the Series X doesn't look good, i think it looks fine, but it's nothing special. There are no details, no textures, save for the top vent, nothing that really makes it unique in any way. My example for a great looking console, the Xbox One S with the PS4 coming in 2nd. I think that the Xbox One S is the best looking console this generation. It's simple, but detailed.

I think they took their design of the x and asked what was important and I think cooling was big for them because I would think it would be easier to cool when it's standing rather than on its side trying to push the hot air out instead of letting the hot air naturally drift upward. I think that's why the disc tray is underneath, to maximize its cooling. Thoughts?

In my opinion it is one of the worst looking consoles I have ever seen. Even the Atari Jaguar had some thought into the design. This just lacks any effort whatsoever. I honestly thought it was a joke meme when I saw it on Facebook.

It is not bad. But I care about games, physical games...complete retail games, and this is not going to be a platform that will deliver that, unfortunately.

A stark reminder how I miss those days looking forward towards a new platform.

I still think it looks kinda nice and for some reason my brain just can't see it as being "too big."

This feels like the dress that some people saw as white and gold that others saw as black and blue.
