i don't get all these posts about how impressed ppl are with the MSeX..cool minimalist design, specs are what we thought... i'll give them props tho, they seem to be off to a much better start than with the One..could be an interesting gen if they bring some classic 1st party gems

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
It is not bad. But I care about games, physical games...complete retail games, and this is not going to be a platform that will deliver that, unfortunately.

A stark reminder how I miss those days looking forward towards a new platform.
It seems to have a disk slot. Where are you getting the idea that there will be no physical games?

I don't like it too pointy eww yuck it needs some curvature like Apple's trash can had. it looks like an ugly old PC tower. its equivalent to tesla's pointy as$ truck not for me no thanks (i'm not a sony boi btw I own all Nintendo/Xbox consoles & don't have a PS3/PS4. Had a PS2 but I think it got stolen. Don't remember if I ever had PS1 I think I did) I'll still eventually get the console but the design I'm not a fan.

It's just... A block. I can't see how anyone could think it's the worst looking console ever or think it's the best, there is nothing going on to offend or admire.

I will say as much as the design itself is nothing to look at, it is great for thermals. So props for that. On the flipside the shape is gonna be a pain in the ass for a lot of people's setups. Consoles have that flat rectangular shape because it's the standard in home entertainment and furniture has been built around that.

The only really bad thing is the name. What a confusingly stupid name choice for a new console.

its look amazing right but its library still on question well hellblade 2 is a start but still somewhat lacking interest

in console its all about games not looks

Well it's a nice change from all the recent Kojima / Death Stranding threads. Now that was ridiculous.

People needing a thread for every new take they have makes this place feel more like Facebook than a forum but I prefer it's discussing a released game people are playing to multiple threads about the look and name of a console, which is literally just about all we know.

Yeah it wouldn't be the start of a new generation here without people calling members shills when positive threads about xbox start popping up.

In all honestly I like the first game the next Xbox showed off because I enjoyed first Hellblade, while PS5 showed one of those loot MP games that I'm not big fan of. With that being said I still don't trust MS to give me the games I want and I'm pretty sure most Japanese devs mostly likely release their game on PS5 more than next Xbox.

Option a) have a special looking console, that will totally NOT blend in with your home cinema and that will going to be LOUD AS A FUCKING JET ENGINE
option b) have a boring looking console, that will blend with your home cinema, will not look like its out of place and will be QUIET AF.

I will choose option b all the time

It’s like if you taped two Gamecubes together, turned around 360 degrees and walked the other direction

Yes, I love simple design And having a cube like shape is very cool.

It's also the right thing to do to let the design goal dictate the design of the casing rather then it be the other way round.
Phil just gave the hardware team the performance that he wanted and let them just make it. This is the way it should be.

Normally it’s the other way around and that’s also preferred;) as designers push engineers to become creative. I bet it’s pr talk and team work, or to make it sound like it was for all the hardware which is partly true of course... To make it more powerful... it’s all about power in PR.

Nice example is the SR-71 blackbird airplane design philosophy: something that’s beautiful will also work amazingly, goes for many designs, his engineers at first didn’t believe in it, but they were pushed to make it fit, much like Apple, Tesla, and all the stuff from Dieter Rams.

It’s an unfortunate side effect from old Gaf that carried over. People don’t seem to understand that the old mods used that as an excuse to blanket ban people for being positive about Xbox.

I don’t think any proof has ever been presented to show that actually happened.

The design is straight out of the playbook of somebody who got burned by RROD. Be a nice large low RPM fan at the bottom blowing air out the top. Sun Microsystem's E?K series was designed that way, although the fan trays were in the middle and bottom.

The only difference will be you have to take off your pants and jacket before entering those threads.

Oh come on, put down the SonyGAF oppressor - you poor victim card  (especially considering your behaviour in Sony related threads).

Like I said, barely 3 controllers.
Instead of using its own new controller, I prefer to look at the pictures comparing it to other consoles for an idea about its size (shows the impressive work done engineering the airflow and cooling on the XB1X as it manages a thinner profile than PS4 Pro):

The issue I see potentially with XSX is either it’s space vertically or airflow when laid horizontally due to other devices sitting close by and potentially blocking the flow of hot air (you make it easier on the HW when you can push heat out upwards as it is it’s natural flow like on the old Mac Pro and on the default XSX setup) .

With many TV / Home Entertainment Centre setups if you lay the console horizontally and the console having a single giant fan on its side is that it will likely blow all the heat against other components you keep close by. Most setups leave space for the electronics to take cool air from front and sides while pushing out hot air from the back where (cables aside) you have ample space for the hot air to disperse and cool down.

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.
It's basically just a desktop computer now....

Can't say I love it (nor hate it), but they deserve credit for trying something new.
It means people won't be able to hide it in their usual furniture, but to be fair they never were meant to, those things always needed air space to evacuate the heat.
I don't mind having some electronic device standing in plain sight, but they could have gone with something more decorative. Juste a few rounded corners here and there could help. Maybe if the light color can be controlled, it could work (also hope it works as a home assistant and blinks in reaction to user commands)

If you peruse my post history I've never been a fan of having 18 threads on the same subject especially subjects with so little to discuss.

I don’t peruse anyone’s post history under normal circumstances, but gamers are excited. So expect it, if it’s as bad as you say it is, then I’m sure the mods will handle it accordingly.

I expect the same response when the forum gets flooded with “OMG PS5 is the best!”threads, which I’m not bothered by it, shit it’s exciting times, the next gen is just beyond that horizon and it’s going to be glorious for all(including the fanboys)

I'm not sure where I am supposed to put it tbh.

It wont fit under my TV anywhere. I could squeeze it in next to my TV, but do I really want a big black box there? No.

I could put it behind the TV somewhere I guess but it will be a pain to get at for discs.

It's an okay design for a PC Tower...it's an absolutely baffling design for a home entertainment centre :messenger_frowning_

My brother, who is a casual gamer, said there is no way his wife is going to let him clutter up the lounge with a big black box....I expect that story will be played out across the world.

He also said he could swap it over for their air purifier (identical design) and she may not notice! :messenger_grinning:

Lol OP, these things are subjective and and all....but amazing what?? It's a plain and simple huge parallepiped/tower that looks like a mini subwoofer or mini fridge. That thing will be impossible for many to be positioned horizontally.
In any case the design is not that important and at least it's better than the name they chose.

Not really something that suits my setup. Weight on a smaller footprint and I use floating shelves. Doesn't really lend itself to entertainment centres either. It looks nice, like a modern speaker and if I choos Xbox then I'll find a place for it easy enough. Looks sleek and I hope the noise mimics that. PS4 is well noisy.
