If I'm not mistaken, didn't SE have an extremely close relationship with Nintendo at the time of FF7 and then they decided to jump ship to Sony for that game? I think Osiris is implying that studios, publishers or games that have been very close to certain platforms will either be making exclusive jumps to other platforms, or at the very least will become multiplat.

That's my guess at least. I don't know if it's related at all to that Zenimax rumor (and I use that term lightly in this case) since, from what I've heard they've been overall closer to Microsoft than Sony historically, but it's the only rumor on the table right now.

Well what's their estimated value? I heard it was 2.5 billion a couple years ago, but I haven't seen anyone post a realistic estimate for their current value, probably because they're privately owned. Even if it were closer to 5 billion Sony can afford them if they really wanted it. It would be their biggest acquisition to date, but Sony acquired EMI for 2.3 billion just about a year ago and PlayStation pulls in WAY more money than their music division so I can see them being willing to invest more towards growth in that field.

What is their latest market cap? Their equity was only $2.5 billion in 2016.

That is doable to take on that publishing arm and developers. Doesn’t mean it will happen though.
