I remember when I bought Nier on release because I wanted a new action-RPG for my PS3. The game got ripped by critics and I thought to myself I probably gonna regret my purchase.

It ended up being one of my favourite games of all time with a godly OST that I still listen to this day. Stopped paying attention to critics after that, it became clear to me that too many in the biz know jack shit about games.

Bring on the remaster and let more people experience this flawed masterpiece.

Yeah....even games with "T" rating get censored and we also saw how people overacted over Catherine Full Body let alone this. I just cant see games like original Drakengard or even Drakengard 3 gets remake/remaster. It sucks but unfortunately thats time we are living now.

The Catherine "overreactions" were more about how a trans character was treated. Though I could see some backlash regarding Kaine in Nier.

I don't think original NiER is gonna have that much issue but original Drakengard has incest, cannibalism and pedophilia.....Journalist and Resetera gonna lose their mind over that game.

Agree with you 100%, this why I like Yoko Taro’s story, he makes one most interesting characters and those flaws what makes them interesting. Unfortunately in these days characters needs to be flawless and badass and if they do have flaws then it’s “problematic”.

Square-Enix could just say fuck it. That was pretty much their approach with Drakengard 3.

Here is why we might get remaster but not remake, he doesn't make same game twice that why he didn't worked on Drakengard 2 and instead made NiER. He rather work on new entry or entirely new IP rather than make remake of a game he already made.

Drakengard's gameplay is even worse. When the best gameplay of the Musou genre is the Warriors series and everything else is much worse, that should give you an idea of how great Drakengard plays. They would really need to do a lot of work to remake those.

People are heavily spoiled by the smooth gameplay of Nier Automata and don't really realize how bad actually playing the other Yoko Taro titles is. You have to SUFFER to get his storylines and his universe if you want to go back from Nier Automata and experience the other entries in the complete timeline.

I dont fully agree about original NiER had bad gameplay it has its flaws but in opinion in the second half the game combat becomes much better when you unlock other weapon classes and use it with magic it becomes much more fun in my opinion. Now upgrading your weapon was complete BS in original NiER and THANK GOD you just need to collect all weapons instead full upgrade all them in order unlock true ending like in Drakengard 3.
