with PS exclusives coming to PC potentially. whats the reason for owning a console now (not named nintendo)

whats the reason doe? paying for online when its free on PC?. or having to deal with constant network updates and shutdowns. I see no reason to own a console at that point if I can get xbox and ps exclusives on one platform. 2 or 3 games Sony releases a year that might take a while to make it to PC aren't a deal breaker. the deal breaker is having to buy a dedicated gaming machine , controllers, pay premium for console games that cost less on PC and pay for online.

Well, you're probably not gonna get them at the same time as you will on consoles, so that's one thing. An important thing if you're impatient.
Other thing is cost. Pc's are expensive.
Also, using it is another factor. Some people just prefer to sit down and play, and with pc's there's gonna be some fiddling around involved with drivers and other pc related stuff.

If both Xbox and PS5 exclusives all eventually come to PC I don't see why anybody would buy a PS5 if it's really 9TF Vs 12TF for XSX.

Unless you don't care about graphics and performance.

As for me PC gaming is just not for me. Tried a few times in the past and it's just not comfortable or practical. Couch, gamepad and big azz screen is what gaming is for me. Also I don't want to worry about drivers, tinkering in the settings to get the best performance, upgrading my HW etc.

For experienced gamers probably very little, for casuals setting up and maintaining a competitive pc can be daunting.
Voice chat is still easier on consoles, HDR is still a pain on pc to work consistently well.
Multiplayer on pc is a mixed bag, I've still encountered a ton of cheaters /hackers and general assholes on pc, more than consoles in my experience.

It's funny seeing this argument spin different ways now that Sony is doing it but just like the xbox arguments not everyone owns a pc capable of gaming...and not everyone likes pc gaming

Again, what is the actual cost of a Pc with the supposed specs of the PlayStation5 including gamepads and a Windows license?

Not sure about cost, but you aren't going to get anything faster than a 1080Ti or 2080. By the time the new consoles come out, they'll be 2 gens behind from 2080Ti and Ampere (3080Ti). But that's the normal pace for Nvidia anyway. I also think RNDA 2 is going to be a really good alternative to current 20xx Nvidia boards.

Yea you could hook your PC up to a TV, but it's not as convenient of just turning on a console and picking up a controller and playing a game.

Why not? Every night I turn on the PC which is under the TV, sit on the couch, double click a game and pick up the controller, all just like I do with a console, except I get to play at 120fps and everything loads quicker.

As for the thread title, I have no reason to buy a console really, I didn't last gen either. I don't think there's anything that will tempt me back into a console's walled garden.

Chances are you'll probably be waiting years after release for most PS5 titles to get their PC port

I have never been a PC gamer so I will always buy PlayStations and Nintendo consoles as long as they keep making them.
Ideally the PlayStation goes the same route as the Xbox and becomes more similar to a PC and be able to play Steam + Epic Game Store games + xCloud or whatever the Microsoft service is called.

For the most part these days, not really. You get an update, you update your PC, you keep moving. Consoles get updates too. The only advantage really is cost.

Nobody really uses the windows store for gaming on PC. You can have steam boot directly into big picture mode upon launching your PC.

Xbox is not doing this either. That rumor is just stupid.

I feel that will be the direction of the future though, with each iteration it will be closer to this vision.
Just as it was a bit too early to go full digital last generation, this generation is a bit too early for this vision.
But with the continuous development of faster Internet, eventually streaming will take care of almost everything.
The boxes will be more of which brand you like best, but Sony will probably keep their exclusives for their box at least for the first few years before they go into their streaming / subscription service.

Lower cost and convenience in setting up, although I don't think all exclusives are coming to PCs. Horizon, if it comes to PC would be like 2-3 years old by then, and would you wait that long to play it on a PC? There is still no news on a death stranding PC port as well. I would rather play these games now than wait.

Im gonna love to see the Pc Master Race port begging the new Uncharted or God of War if what Sony do is just release their old ass Ps4 games 2 years later in PC (like Horizon)

Does it coming late detract from it being a better iteration of the game?

Let’s be accurate: assuming the rumors are true, Horizon came out 3 years ago and Dreams is a game that requires the broadest community possible. TLOU 2 and co. aren’t being released day and date yet, so exclusives are still a thing and will continue to be.

That said, if you subtract exclusives, hardware sales could and should die. The real golden goose is the licensing fees platform makers are able to extract via publishing, but platforms don’t have to be limited by a physical footprint any longer. Hardware is ultra risky and low margin. Aiming to be the place where games are played is more important than selling people the box to play them on.

There should be more tampons in gaming
Because they won't release day and date most likely, also I doubt all exclusives will arrive on PC on a semi-regular pattern, if at all. People are really losing their minds because of a game released 3 years ago, being released on PC...which is beneficial for the franchise to expand its player base. See, this is why folks don't take what gaming enthusiasts say seriously.

Consoles are better for the living room.

Exactly, way more convenient.
Maybe I am jinxed but computers are crashing often when I am around.
And I hate mouse and keyboard (I know I can plug a controller).

Maybe I am too old or something but, for me, computers are for work and boring stuffs.

Even when I was a kid , I had an amstrad , an Amiga and I spend my gaming time mostly in arcade and on the nes.

I personally still don’t see any reason replace console for PC, there still some Japanese developers like Atlus who mostly releases games on consoles. And even rare chance they do it takes forever to come to PC, I’m type of person who mostly buy games I care about day one.

I haven't bought a tower PC in over 15 years. It's laptops for me since then. And when I buy a new laptop it's always a middle of the road one. There is no way my laptop can play any AAA games great on PC. Most of them I probably can't even hit the minimum spec requirements.

So console for me.

There’s plenty.

No matter how much PC gamers on the internet try to tell you how convenient it is, it just isn’t. Consoles will always be more convenient, and easy to use.

The fact that they are dedicated matters. PCs are complicated, do everything, devices. That’s a benefit and a detriment in some ways. A “video game console” is a thing despite other devices being able to play video games, in the same way a camera still exists even though plenty of devices take pictures. People like to play video games, on video game consoles.

Also the hardware is cheaper/more worry free. You can buy buy a PS5 day one and know you will be playing games for the next 8-10 years.

Console wars have inflated the importance of “exclusives”. In reality most people who buy consoles aren’t buying “exclusives”

I love how people take all the rumors for fact.

Anyway, as long as Sony keeps releasing consoles, quality games and doesn't screw their customers over like MS does, I see no reason to move to PC.

If they would run their company into the ground though, I have no problem buying a PC.
And even if they would stop releasing their games, I'll just continue playing FF XIV and play PC games like one of those MTG games, Guild Wars 2 (which I have always wanted to play), Total War: Warhammer (Dark Elves ❤️) and probably LoL.

Honestly wouldn't mind it all that much. Everything is replaceable.

The purpose of the console is to be cheaper than PC allowing for a lower cost of entry. This also allows people to play games on the screen of their choosing and enables them to enjoy the games the way they would prefer to play them.

Lighten up fuckers.

No matter what anyone says, PC gaming is more jank. I enjoy it, but it can be a pain in the ass. If consoles continue to deliver 90% of the experience at 50% of the cost, they will have a very strong place in gaming. It's never really been about exclusives between PC and consoles. That is important to a very small percentage of gamers.

There is room in our hobby for both console gamers and PC gamers, and there are reasons to own both. I promise it's going to be okay you guys, this is not the end of the world.
