bought a PS2, more excited than PS5

I literally haven't bought a PS4 this gen and Owned a ps2 as a kid and yet there are still way way more games on the PS2 that look awesome and interesting and what I consider a "console game". than there is on the ps4, literally I can list all of the PS4 exclusives off the top of my head and I never played a single one of them. thats how very few there are. yet there are literally hundreds of exclusive PS2 games that aren't curated steam games dumbed down for the inferior hardware that is the console. there aren't many console games anymore, 95% of console games now are dumbed down PC games. and most of them don't really run that well especially on the older systems.

there is just infinitely more variety I am going to be able to play yet again since I haven't owned a PS2 in over a decade more than the PS4 library can wish to offer.

I think ps4 has like what, 20-30 exclusives? lmao? am pretty sure less than 30. I bet the PS2 has at least 200 exclusives.

wow that sounds awesome

am very excited I got a component cable too. I wanna buy a 2nd controller but they cost a fortune. and hard to tell if its fake

just wanted to say that PS3/X360 was the last console gen, these new ones are PC boxes with propriety OS, downloading updates, dealing with technical issues lack of updates. you know that was the whole point of owning a console not dealing with some issues you might get on PC sometimes with hardware. oh, and even worse, pay for online. no thanks. yikes.

To be fair, game development was a lot more quick back then.

If you make a PS4 game today, then people demand your game have Triple AAA production and look like Hollywood, which costs a lot of money.

During the PS2 era, the hardware was only powerful enough that gameplay was the bigger selling point.

I will say though that there are PS2 games that grab my attention more than some PS4 games.

Just look. In the first 2 minutes alone, it's pure arcade-like action. We don't get stuff like this anymore.

I played two games of LOTR on ps2, one was turn based and it was excellent and I dont like turn games based much

the other one I was running around playing as a hobbit adventure style game and it wasn't good at all.

PS2 is my least favorite PlayStation console, but that's probably more about when in my life it was out. I wasn't gaming much at the time. The only franchises I'd really make time for were Final Fantasy and Resident Evil.

FFX was good, but Resident Evil REmake and RE4 on GameCube were amazing.

I did end up becoming addicted to Finsl Fantasy XI on PS2 at first, but switched to 360 when that version released.

I've been gaming since the Magnavox Odyssey 2. It was my first console before I got a 2600 and VIC-20.

Imo the PS2 is the peak of gaming consoles. So many great games, so much variety and a massive library. There are games that imo still hold up well in the graphics department.

Best was this is just before all the bad practices that began in the PS3/360 era.

No day one patches or patches period. Finished games. No required online. No lootboxes. No DLC that's required to know more of a story *cough Bioware*. No dumbass woke politics and diversity checklists. Just good fun and good games.

I would actually take going back to PS2 era technology if it meant banishing all these crappy things we get with games nowadays. I could very much live with that, I'll tell you h'wat.

Be careful what you wish for.

IMO, it would have been better if PS2/Gamecube/Xbox were just supported instead. It's not like the actual hardware went away.

Congrats on getting the best console ever!

Component cable is a good choice. I have component to my big TV and the image is crisp and beautiful.
There are so many great games for the PS2. Atelier Iris, Alundra, Wild Arms, ...

You did not mention, but I hope you got a fat model. Then you can use this:
which will make your PS2 even more awesomerer.

Oh hell I wish for another gaming crash for years now and would not regret if it happened so long as we're able to still play older games and GOG would be around.

Reboot and fix this industry.

no I got a slim more reliable and I dont mind bying and using discs.

tbh and imo, PS2 was the start of my decline in gaming interest, I loved the psx but ps2 games were just long, tedious and repetitive. I gave up on every GTA games, halfway through Odin Sphere and I still have to go through some rpgs sitting on my shelf collecting dust. PS4 era was somewhat a resurgence of interest for me, I don't know what changed, but it's working.

Playing this rn, it's literally like if Metal Slug and DMC had a baby together. It's a pure arcadey 3D run and gun game, like what I'd imagine a 3D Metal Slug being like. The lock on and dodging Is reminiscient of DMC. Thanks for letting me know about that game, it is indeed pure arcade-like action.

The key to playing anything before the 360/ps3 is to play on a CRT. Use component cables or S-video if you can..

I hooked up my ps3 to my CRT with component cables to play PS1 classics.

The golden era of GTA games.

Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

Bully was also a great game on the PS2.

Definitely check out Destroy All Humans!, its sequel and other great games by the late Pandemic Studios (who also developed Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and the original Star Wars: Battlefront games).

I am really starting to hate the phrase "hidden gem", but the PS2 library is loaded with hidden gems. Lots of 7/10+ software that is still worth playing today. Buy a cheapo PS2, install a hard drive in it and just ISO away.

Be careful what you wish for.

Oh, c'mon. There's lots of good software for the Wii as well. Plus it also doubles as a budget GameCube, if you have the model with the GameCube controller ports. I had a Wii mostly for the lightgun games.

What a load of shit. I don't think even 1 of these games I recommended in a recent PS2 thread got a remaster.

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/recommend-me-ps2-games-gaf.1520739/ post #16
Warriors and R-Type are the only good games on that list.
^ Warriors is on the ps4
R-type final 2 is coming out sometime in the future I believe.

Thank fuck we don't get stuff like this anymore. It looks horrible. I totally get what you're trying to convey but damn you couldn't have picked something else haha.

Thats is all.
I remember reading on another site about Persona 3 FES releasing and then playing it when it released along with Persona 4. I really liked those games. A lot of character and charm. I haven't gotten into the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games though I know you've talked about Nocturne before, I should play it (the version that was localized anyway).

It's from the Simple2000 series which basically translates as 2000 Yen or $20 games. They were deliberately made on a budget but I'm still impressed they were able to make something unique and fun.

To a lot of people they look ugly, but I appreciate the developers were willing to try anything.

Female Boxing

A Basketball Game that is also a Fighting game

Pool Party

Games to me should just be about fun, and we kinda lost that after the PS2 generation went away.

I think next generation will be one of Sony's greatest generations yet but yeah I missed out on PS2's awesomeness

Definitely play Nocturne, in my opinion its one of the best game Atlus ever made and its my personal favourite JRPG of all time.

You can play those and the good Persona games on your Vita!
In my opinion, if someone never played Persona 3 before, for his/her first time they should play the original or FES, PSP version is good but it takes lot of its atmosphere and cutscenes and ability walk around the city and school out in PSP version.

PS2 was an amazing console and I still have mine..... But why does a console having less exclusives affects your enjoyment of it?

Also... You do know that all(if not most) PS2 games are playable on PC with a lot of improvements right? Since you own a PS2 and the games, there is nothing morally stoping you from playing on an emulator:

I'm thinking of getting a modded PS2.

I ignorantly bought a mid-to-high spec PC to emulate some of my favorite PS2 games. Little did I know that these emulators have a hard time keeping in sync with music rhythm games.

More cool games than PS3 and PS4 combined. PS2 was a juggernaut.

The PSP version is better IMO because it is the only Persona game (not spin off) to date where you can choose to NOT be a self insert male character.
