Have you ever fear missing out future video game releases after you die?

So after I played a masterpiece called Dragon Quest XI (seriously for those who haven't played it yet, you are missing something amazing),

I remembered eleven years ago I've read an article about japanese granny who is also a television personality who loves to play dragon quest, and flaunts her ds to play DQ IX online, her age was 70 or 80 something at that time.. then she passed away the following year (if I am not mistaken about this)

So what I was thinking about is that she missed the best dragon quest ever that released in 2017, DQ XI, 5-6 years after she died

then I reflects at my life and felt sad, that I could probably missed the best entry of my favorite series ever ( elder scrolls, fallout, final fantasy, smt and other) or missing some new masterpiece IP after I die

but then logically speaking, if I stay healthy and died because of old age (like 60 years later) chance that the series or the company who made the series had been long gone, but then who knows if I die tommorrow?

So this is basically a FOMO, do you guys a thought like this? how do you think?

I have! I'm kinda pre-sad cause I'm going to miss so much technology! Im 33 years old, and I've seen the world change so much, so rapidly! Imagine I started playing NES and now I game on a ps4 pro. My mind is constantly blown by new games! Graphics, mechanics, the scope of new worlds, technology...It just makes me kinda sad ...but silver lining, I won't live in the China dominated idiocracy future.

no way. i dont fear missing out on any media products. my fears are about outliving people i love, my body breaking down, life itself, etc.

in the grand scheme of things media and entertainment is fine and all but not a reason for living.

also it seems presumptious to miss technology which doesn't exist and is just a fantasy in your mind of what could happen. like if someone in the 60s though "better not die in the 70s so i can get those flying cars" that dude would still be waiting.

you can't predict the future. mourning an unpredictable future is ridiculous.

Honestly, I have bigger things to worry about missing out on if I die than a bunch of videogames.

I have imagined missing out on events like contacting aliens or colonizing Mars after death, but never video games. It has not occurred to me before now.

I assume the games would be the same as the ones I'm playing now.

Not really. If I die tomorrow or In a year, then I doubt I'll be on the other side thinking "shit I'll never play this".

Gaming is one of my biggest hobbies, but to be honest I usually only think about games that'll have a release in the near future.

Naw. In fact PS5 will probably be my last console. I'll play things from PS1 to PS5 until I pass on.

Honestly, yeah I've thought about.

I was a kid when Final Fantasy 1 came out. I liked it, but fell in love after Final Fantasy 2(4) came out.

There was a time where I didn't play much video games at all, but when a new Final Fantasy came out, I'd get it day one and get back into gaming.

As I've gotten older, I still feel compelled to play ever game in the series, even after FFXV let me down. It is crazy to think that, even though I've been a fan since the beginning (of the series and my life) there could be numbered FF games I won't be around for.

I'm not stupid. No one lives forever. No one. But with advances in modern science, and my high level of income, I mean, it's not crazy to think I can't live to be 245, maybe 300. Heck, I just read in the newspaper that they put a pig heart in some guy from Russia. Do you know what that means?

Its funny how this is now a question because I have thought about this. Sure, life is one day going to end. Big deal, make the best out of it. I wonder sometimes if I'll get to play Elden Ring or another amazing game like Dark Souls. What will happen when I'm too old to hold a controller. Will there be a Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Dark Souls, or some other amazing experience? Will I miss the best remake ever made? I wonder what the news for video games will be like years after my death. I don't think its crazy to think that. I could wonder how TV's and Smart Phones will look like.

The way things are going in gaming right now I would be surprised if I played ANY new games after the PS5 era.

I understand where you are coming from, but over time entertainment becomes less and less important.
At least that's how its supposed to work, once you become a useful human with a job, family, etc.

No.

I do occasionally think I'm missing out on life because of video games though. But then I realize I enjoy video games... just as much as I would enjoy some other things. Life is life. Do what you enjoy and don't worry about that past or future. Live in the present.

wow guys, looking all of these interesting responses, very diverse and insightful.

I agree that family and child are number one that one should be worried for.

Maybe because now I am a single person also living in the hollow world, I focus myself to video games, but when I get married and have a child later my priority will shift

Also I want to live 250 years ++ too 😎

I think only if the game was already announced and shown.

for example, Cyberpunk 2077... that game is in development for ages already and the first trailer was in 2013 for fucks sake! imagine knowing that the game wouldn't come out for another 7 years! I bet a lot of Cyberpunk fans that were looking forward to this game died in this time span... like houndreds most likely.
and I feel sorry for them and I would hate to know that I would never be able to play it for some health reason or something.

it's like the guy that wanted to see Star Wars Episode 7 before he died and they showed him a raw cut of it. or in the movie Fanboys, where they drive to the Skywalker Ranch so their dying friend could see Episode 1.

so IMO it's worse if there is something tangible on the horizon, just out of reach. and not as much an issue to think "SHIT WHAT ABOUT HALO 69? ILL MISS IT!"
when it comes to the more distant future I am more bummed to miss out how humanity will evolve and how technology will develop in the next few hundred years, because we live in a time where all the crazy shit is still in its infancy... we can go to space but it's hard and super expensive, we have PC's and VR but it's still rudimentary and not like the ideal utopian version of it that might be reality in 100 to 200 years.

The older I get, the more I realize the absolute best of the best games were already released. Almost all new games just dont live up to the best games of old. Super Metroid and Castlevania SOTN are 2 prime examples for that genre.
