Dude, dont move the goalpost, we are talking about you trying to silence people. Just let people post what they want, how they want. Report them if you think they are going too far and let the moderation team decide who can post about what and how.

I would never try and silence somebody to an opinion or guess work, come on man. But I don’t like people saying “this site has info” and then it turns out it doesn’t. Because as this thread has shown, people will NOT read the source, they will just think it’s legit and roll with it. People can and will post anything speculative they like, and I would never dream of shutting them down, and haven’t done that a single time in the thread?

Now I may pop up and give reasons why they are right/wrong? But never shut them down, and I don’t think that’s a fair assessment to be honest.

I agree with you, but thats on them, not on who posted the info, specially when its done in the context of a speculation thread.

edit: for the last part you added

and if that was what you had done, I wouldn't be saying anything to you now.

My problem was solely with the "stop doing that" and if that wasn't what you meant by it, I'm sorry for all of this, but thats how it sounded to me.

Wasn't the 13.8 number the first to be rumored way back then by Benji?
Also yesterday someone at Era said he heard from a source in Taiwan that PS5 is 13.8 TF

It does seem crazy high, but no one expected 8GB of GDDR5 for PS4 either.

Outside of people like us nobody cares for the announcement. My friends who all own PS4s don't lurk the internet like me for every new detail 🥺. We are too early to the party and waiting for the cake. Meanwhile the rest comes when the cake is already is served 💃

Reading the replies to the official PlayStation account on twitter and social media buzz in general I have to disagree. I don’t have go outside to ask people if they’re interested in PS5. It’s not only GAF and forums.

What if we get this and every other PS5 announcement related thread locked until the announcement actually happens?

There is an upside and a downside to that. The upside is, only the official word announcement can be heard. The downside is, anything else we may want to discuss is impossible leading to alternate frustrations. It’s a question of whether the cost would be worth the reward.

13.8 just seems unreasonable. Stranger things have happened, but it just seems crazy to me.

Price up the cost of the individual components you think you are getting, including costs of the board, the controller, leads, case, box and materials.

Now even when you consider they will be selling at a loss, and that they will be getting these parts much cheaper...

It doesn’t add up.

You’ve got a grand GPU to get over that 12tf threshold To 13.8 (no card currently does this)

You’ve got an up to date cpu, with dd5 and board.

Then you’ve got all the little bits that do cost money, maybe not a lot but do. An 8k certified 120hrz hdmi cable for example.

And then as well, a controller?

So like two grands worth of kit, even at bulk order prices, some of you assume will sell at a loss and be priced £399? Hell even at £699 you are seriously pushing it here.

These peak limits are there to be just that, limitations. It’s possible, but this will burn out faster than you can say piss, plus the yields will be so low Sony would be bankrupt the end of the year.

Benji said 12.9. Recently BGs said 13.8 apparently as a joke.

right now it feels frustrating seeing through bunch of nothing but speculation and rumor.

True, but it also might be true that the conversations in these forums do matter in the big picture because these views are shared with the general public and negative vibes spread like wildfire.

Trying to make sense of github and PS5 rumored specs, what about the possibility of PS5 having two gpus in a chiplet design? 2 x 36 CUs equal 72 CUs total.
72 CUs at 1.4 Ghz would be 12.9 teraflops
72 CUs at 1.5 Ghz would be 13.8 teraflops

Extrapolating data from this graph, power consumption for the gpu part would be between 160 and 175 watts.
It would be a similar amount of heat to dissipate as a 12 teraflops 56CU GPU, which would be around 163 watts.
That's if both of them use GDDR6. If PS5 uses HBM that would mean some savings in power, so maybe they could have 13.8 teraflops with the same power consumption (and heat generated) as a 12 tf Series X.

I know the upsides from this strategy (more viable chips per wafer, more teraflops) but what are the downsides? Does this make any sense?

If comparable to the past then they are already late.

No, they would be considerably ahead actually. At this time last generation their next platform hadn’t even been announced, they had only given an invite to an event (that was very obviously going to be about their next console but nothing official was said about it). Currently, we have: name, logo, some CPU details, some GPU details , some storage details and other technical capabilities all officially announced.

Well, looks like there are no PS5 news even after Sony’s Q3 earnings reports, I feel like I have lost hope for February reveal, maybe just maybe, we’ll see the reveal at the very end of February, let’s hope it is in February, because that’s what Kleegamefan said it would be, if it isn’t there in February, I’ll be losing confidence in what he’s saying........even if he was wrong, doesn’t mean everything he said is wrong, but still, he’ll lose credibility.

A: it is AMD not NVIDIA+intel and their rip off prices

B: still silly to compare pc parts to closed system with millions of components ordered

APU is much cheaper than dedicated cpu+graphics card.

Is 13,8tflops possible? Maybe maybe not, but im 100% sure it(apu or cpu+gpu chip) would not cost more than 200-300$ to Sony

You know how over time consoles get redesigned as a smaller version to reduce costs such as the slim models, do you think the Lockhart model could be a cost saving version of the Xbone One X? The Xbone One X is around 6TF GCN and the Lockhart is rumoured to be around 4TF RDNA so would that be similar enough?

Personally, I think your vastly over estimating how much cheaper Sony can get stuff for BOM wise.

You’re not just ordering a gpu, you’re ordering everything, all the components, cpu, GPU, PCs, materials, as well as design, marketing overheads, all those little pieces you never think of.

I know companies like to inflate their product costs, and nvidia are awful for it, sure. But this is like two grands worth of kit people are talking about here, and while yes they will get it substantially cheaper than any of us ever could sue to bulk order, I can’t see them getting it all for as cheap as some think. I just can’t.

This is all about a theoretical nearly 14tf machine.

9tf? You’re looking at a cheaper console to produce. But the higher up you go, the worse the outlook is.

OH I agree it'll do more than 120 I just remember saying 120 like two years ago and ppl were like nah more like 100 or 110 million.
Maybe, but reaching PS2 levels are definitely not the case. Its sales were strongly helped by piracy in 3rd World countries.l, which will not happen this time.
