Could be. Could also be an ego/money issue. Zelnick recently announced that he was going to require more output from Rockstar, which is sort of contrary to their development ethos (it’ll be ready when it’s ready). We may or may not find out.

I have to hope the script for the next Rockstar game has already been written, because like Bioware, they very well might never be the same after this. Rockstar has some of the best writing in all of video games, and that will be missed.

He was the head writer on their biggest games. GTA6 story might be far ahead , but games after it...who knows how good they will be. Or Take2 wants them to shit out quicker more online focused games anyway and he wanted to leave before that.

The protracted development cycles IMO are causing me to lose interest. It's hard to stay excited about GTA when we've already gone an entire console generation without any single player content to anticipate.

The saddest part about this is that Rockstar will never be the same again. Not because he's leaving but because their business model has clearly changed from first class single player stories to online money grabs.
Read Dead Redemption 2 is a world so beautiful they could've kept adding content for well over 5 years and have an avid following, instead we get the Online mess. Makes me wonder how much their business model has shifted to online money making impacted his decision to leave aside from being wildly rich and still young enough to enjoy it all.

I like how Rockstar gave us a massive, detailed game that will entertain people for hours for just 60 bucks (not to mention a super-elaborate online mode on top of it) and your response is "yeah but they could have given us MORE."

I put in over 100 hours into RDO, it's complete shit compared to the main story game. I'm asking for more of what made Rockstar great and less of what makes it a scummy company

I don’t really know what to make of this. Rockstar’s output has been terrible this console gen, but I don’t think Take Two is going to make the next GTA and Red Dead the single-player focused experience that Houser did. I wonder if the next games are just going to go all in on online and just go the online multiplayer route.
