Moving on from this insane discussion, i wanted to bring back the hype cycle. Not calling anyone here an astroturfer but last gen around this time, i was at the gamespot forums and there was this guy who continually turned up in next gen threads to first tout the xbox specs, then misdirect after the rumors of it being less powerful and then finally resorted to bringing down the whole vibe of the place because people were actually excited about the ps4 specs. around the same time, a mod here received a list of members who were supposedly astroturfers and they were purged. Pretty sure that guy was an astroturfer because he disappeared after the consoles came out and i was told by an older member that he had turned up during the ps360 launch period too.

Again, not calling anyone here an astroturfer, but the end result is the same. This thread feels eerily like those gamespot threads where any positive ps4 discussion got shutdown by concern trolling, dismissal of rumors (ms would never release an underpowered console!!) and just all around shitty behavior that sucked all the joy from these threads which should be about hype for whats possible next gen.

  • EVERYONE in the industry has said that the PS5 is a beast. the very first rumors were ruthenticcookie breaking the news that sony wasnt attending e3, and that the ps5 is a monsters. $499 with a $100 loss monster.
  • WCCFTECH in November of 2018 said the ps5 would be using a bigger gpu than the 40 cu navi 10. he was the only one who said navi wont be gcn but an all new arch.
  • Digital foundry heard that the devs are 'quite happy' with the ps5 specs.
  • Jason schrier said that both guys are aiming to beat Stadia's number.
  • Colin and Andrew Reiner said that the ps5 is more powerful at E3. Colin said definitively more powerful.
  • Klee said that the game he saw was made on a ps5 devkit and had destruction, ray tracing reflections, ray traced global illumination and ray traced shadows.
  • Cerny said that the ps5 had an ssd that was faster than any ssd on the market. this confirms a 4+gbps ssd.
  • klee then said both consoles are double digit tflops.
  • then a few months later, clarified that the ps5 was slightly stronger. difference was launch x1 to x1s. 1.3 vs 1.4 tflops. 10-15%. 10% of 12 tflops is 1.2 tflops, 15% is 1.8 tflops. so 13.2 - 13.8 tflops.
  • wccftech doubles down on both consoles using bigger navis.
  • jason comes back to era to gloat about his stadia number prediction after tom warren confirmed that the xbox is 12 tflops.
  • jason later says hes heard and believes that both console makers are going with something even more powerful than the 2080 because they want to future proof this time.

all this points to an insanely powerful console. we know what sony could do with a $399 console design with a BOM of $381. we know what cerny did with a $250 vita. imagine what they can do with a $499 console with a $599 bom.

- fucking hbm. they have revealed everything except for ram? sony has a history of picking expensive ram. i wouldnt put it past them. ms has already announced it, sony hasnt. at the very least, this is exciting. do not let anyone take this excitement away just because they dont have anything to look forward to.

Let's not forget, before Sony did the wired article, the detractors laughed at us suggesting that ssd and ray tracing could be in next gen console. it was sony who made it standard and yet instead of us gushing over the possibilities, the conversation was hijacked and became about how the xbox is more powerful, and how the ray tracing in the ps5 isnt for visuals.

do you guys see? dont let these guys bring you down or shift the conversation. i can promise you, this will not stop even after the specs are officially revealed. it will only get worse. they will get more abrasive, more personal, and start making shit up like gpus in the power brick and power of the fucking cloud. You cannot win with these people so do not let them control the conversation. we have already seen this with team realistic and team thermals being complete dicks to us for over a year then after the MS 12 tflops reveal, do a 180 without conceding they were dead wrong. they threw away all their theories about thermal draw after seeing that console, but only for MS. Sony is still 9 tflops. They will never admit they were wrong. so why bother?

be excited. this is supposed to be fun. speculate away with hbm and 13 tflops. everything these nerds said wouldnt come true has already come true. ssd, ray tracing, move away from gcn, 12 tflops, 8 core 16 thread cpus. why not hbm and 13-14 tflops? the other forum systematically discredited and silenced posters who dared to dream bigger even after ms proved us all right. thankfully mods here arent controlled by that mob. go crazy. have fun. this is going to be the best gen of all time.

I remember that WCCFTECH dropping that it was going to be a new architecture. Then FUD article "rumors" and naysayers came out heavy trying to rain on the parade saying "it may not be a new architecture at all, don't get your hope's up".

As much clickbait as that site does post sometimes now, they hit the nail on the head with that source.

This is the reason I am so pumped to hear about PS5. I expect that XSX is going to have the power advantage, but all these rumours combined also lead me to believe that Sony are about to blow everyone away.

It's always going to be this way if sources jobs are on the line. If you notice, cryptic usually comes to fruition, where well detailed 4chan or Reddit posts almost never do.

yep. usman pirzada is the guy you want to pay attention to. he got pretty much everything right from his original article with radeon 7's cancellation being the only thing he got wrong.

Both Xbox Series X and PS5 will blow us away with their flagship titles.

You have to look at the reported specs of these machines and then look at current gen games running on PS4 and Xbox One and you can imagine what is possible with north of 10TF, SSD and desktop class CPU's. Add in hardware ray tracing and other custom hardware and you have a platform that should blow the tits off any current flagship PC title. Well Klee said as much when he mentioned the game demo he saw on PS5.

Death Stranding, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us 2, Gears 5, God Of War all done on machine's running shitty mobile tier Jaguar CPU and 7780 GPU equivalent.

The thing is i'm eager to see what developers can do with such monstrous specced machines. So far we have a Hellblade 2 trailer but i'm really hungry to see gameplay. I just can't fucking wait.

I'm just thinking that its almost mid Feb and we have no word on a PS Meeting or any leaks or hints regarding a State Of Play from anyone. GDC is coming up and some have mentioned that even then its not likely Sony will reveal anything despite there being possible leaks during GDC.
I'm trying to not set myself up for disappointment holding out for anything this month. Been checking back like crazy since last month to see if there is any news but there's nothing each day i log on. No hints from any insiders, no chatter from Sony, not cryptic twitter posts (maybe from fake insiders) but nothing substantial or concrete has leaked so far.

So if not this month, and if nothing happening during GDC in March then almost certainly Sony would be waiting for around E3 time and have their own show to unveil PS5 and its games. That's must my guess. I'm not an insider or anything.

yep. the hellblade trailer almost didnt blow me away because i had been expecting those graphics ever since finding out that the unreal engine rebirth trailer was running on a single 1080ti. i remember dictator and others constantly trying to bring me down whenever i said that. turns out, those graphics are possible after all, even if only in trailers.

the ray tracing in their project mara teaser is absolutely insane. linear games set in indoor areas are going to look near photorealistic.

death stranding's character models look absolutely incredible. im fully expecting sony studios to top senua's model in cutscenes. there is a scene at the end of death stranding where mads walks out in cloudy conditions. he looked so real my mind struggled for a bit because there was no uncanny valley and yet i knew it was fake.

  • EVERYONE in the industry has said that the PS5 is a beast. the very first rumors were ruthenticcookie breaking the news that sony wasnt attending e3, and that the ps5 is a monsters. $499 with a $100 loss monster.
  • WCCFTECH in November of 2018 said the ps5 would be using a bigger gpu than the 40 cu navi 10. he was the only one who said navi wont be gcn but an all new arch.
  • Digital foundry heard that the devs are 'quite happy' with the ps5 specs.
  • Jason schrier said that both guys are aiming to beat Stadia's number.
  • Colin and Andrew Reiner said that the ps5 is more powerful at E3. Colin said definitively more powerful.
  • Klee said that the game he saw was made on a ps5 devkit and had destruction, ray tracing reflections, ray traced global illumination and ray traced shadows.
  • Cerny said that the ps5 had an ssd that was faster than any ssd on the market. this confirms a 4+gbps ssd.
  • klee then said both consoles are double digit tflops.
  • then a few months later, clarified that the ps5 was slightly stronger. difference was launch x1 to x1s. 1.3 vs 1.4 tflops. 10-15%. 10% of 12 tflops is 1.2 tflops, 15% is 1.8 tflops. so 13.2 - 13.8 tflops.
  • wccftech doubles down on both consoles using bigger navis.
  • jason comes back to era to gloat about his stadia number prediction after tom warren confirmed that the xbox is 12 tflops.
  • jason later says hes heard and believes that both console makers are going with something even more powerful than the 2080 because they want to future proof this time.

all this points to an insanely powerful console. we know what sony could do with a $399 console design with a BOM of $381. we know what cerny did with a $250 vita. imagine what they can do with a $499 console with a $599 bom.

- 13-14 tflops
- 5gbps ssd
- fucking hbm. they have revealed everything except for ram? sony has a history of picking expensive ram. i wouldnt put it past them. ms has already announced it, sony hasnt. at the very least, this is exciting. do not let anyone take this excitement away just because they dont have anything to look forward to.

Let's not forget, before Sony did the wired article, the detractors laughed at us suggesting that ssd and ray tracing could be in next gen console. it was sony who made it standard and yet instead of us gushing over the possibilities, the conversation was hijacked and became about how the xbox is more powerful, and how the ray tracing in the ps5 isnt for visuals.

do you guys see? dont let these guys bring you down or shift the conversation. i can promise you, this will not stop even after the specs are officially revealed. it will only get worse. they will get more abrasive, more personal, and start making shit up like gpus in the power brick and power of the fucking cloud. You cannot win with these people so do not let them control the conversation. we have already seen this with team realistic and team thermals being complete dicks to us for over a year then after the MS 12 tflops reveal, do a 180 without conceding they were dead wrong. they threw away all their theories about thermal draw after seeing that console, but only for MS. Sony is still 9 tflops. They will never admit they were wrong. so why bother?

be excited. this is supposed to be fun. speculate away with hbm and 13 tflops. everything these nerds said wouldnt come true has already come true. ssd, ray tracing, move away from gcn, 12 tflops, 8 core 16 thread cpus. why not hbm and 13-14 tflops? the other forum systematically discredited and silenced posters who dared to dream bigger even after ms proved us all right. thankfully mods here arent controlled by that mob. go crazy. have fun. this is going to be the best gen of all time.

So is Hellblade 2 a timed exclusive or is it an exclusive, exclusive? I read something to that effect and was pretty bummed out. Yeah, the trailer was ok but primarily it was just that I was looking forward to a sequel to that game. I really liked the story and how the game told it. So....will we see Hellblade 2 on the PS5 or is it only going to be on Xbox?

About 95% sure its only xbox the same as outer worlds.

personally will grab a lockhart for their first partys titles.

did you see how sony paid only $220 million to buy insomaniac? i thought ms had more cash than sony since they make $10 billion in profits every quarter. wasnt this the reason why ms can afford 12 tflops and sony has to settle for 9?

and yet here we are living in a world where a fantastic studio like insomniac gets picked up for pennies on the dollar and ms cant even outbid sony. ive said this before, sony has a lot more riding on the ps5 than ms and they will be more willing to take a bigger loss and make sure they launch a powerful console. MS is posting $10 billion in profits every quarter despite xbox losing money while sony is posting $3 billion in profits mostly due to the ps4. its entirely possible that they fuck it all up but its highly unlikely considering sony has never fucked up like this before. their biggest fuck up was a console with a $800 bom.

there’s no way Sony messes anything up, if anything they surprise us yet again with another 8GB GDDR5 moment.

Sony’s PS4 success also allows them to go bolder. Raise the price because demand will be there. Take a bigger loss because PSN continues to print money. Cerny Unhinged can do a lot with that extra pricing headroom

If anything I think XSX will be the boring “conservative” console....are they even doing anything new with the controller?

Outer worlds? That's out now and is on both PS4 and Xbox? Do you mean something else? Well, bottom line, Sony will have a ton of exclusives from 1st party, which is why I will get one. If we're going back to the days of each side nabbing publishers and games here and there it will up the ante and competition, so that's a positive I guess. Thanks for the info!

Outer worlds 2 will most likely be in xbox only. Ms had to honor the deal that was already in place.

Let's assume for a second github leak is real and 100% locked in. If sony manages to maintain 2ghz on the gpu then that would be brillant and genius design to keep an APU cool. It would have to have some dam amazing cooling arch that's for sure.

Now just for another second going by github leak let's look at the possibilities of both consoles under assumption both CU's are correct (github leak had ARDEN FOR 3584 SP'S)

XBOX SX - 56CU'S @ 1.6GHZ = 11.5 (ROUNDED)
@ 1.7GHZ = 12.1 (Best bet)
@1.8GHZ=12.9 (Nope)
@2GHZ= 14.3 (Not happening)

(PS5 TF FOR 2GHZ / 36 * 64 = 2304 / 2304 * 2 * 2 = 9.216)

PS5 36 CU'S @2GHZ= 9.216
@2.05GHZ= 9.446
@2.1GHZ= 9.676
@2.2GHZ= 10.137

And an out of curiosity number not to start an argument

The only thing that i find off for the github leak is BC mode for ps4 PRO downclocks only and disables certain features as said in the backwards compat patent from mark cerny, I can't see Sony just having 36cu's but oberon spec sheet did show BC Separate FROM FULL CHIP RESULTS which is a bit worrying
