Great news but I'm going to be that guy:

1) what happened to the excuse of microtransactions are needed in the industry to help pay for ever inflating dev costs? Here we have a dev giving multiple titles away for the price of one.

2) if this becomes a norm, will we see more games going the route of GaaS to cover the costs of one game, spanning multiple devices?

3) R* wrekt

Genuinely surprised - thought it would be a first-party only thing.. hard to imagine other companies following suit - Watch Dogs 3? AC Odyssey? At most I could imagine a reduced upgrade cost.. Maybe I’ll be surprised again

Is CDPR for real? - if you’re going to delay your game for newer hardware, and then downgrade for the previous generation (which was supposed to be your target hardware to begin with), then, yeah, you sure as fuck shouldn’t charge gamers twice for it.

I assumed this was going to work like Xbox One X and PS4 Pro 'patches', so good to see that confirmed. I wonder if the patch will be available release day of the Series X.

Fallout 4 was released on PS4 and Xbox One, it too got a free 'patch' when the Pro and One X came out a year or so later.

People were worried so they had to clarify. After what Bethesda pulled it was a concern even if this is CDPR we're talking about. Also no one is actually forcing them to do it and most people wouldn't have cared so its a nice gesture.

I think it was pretty obvious to expect that.

It was pretty obvious to expect the developers of arguably the biggest game in years to offer a next gen upgrade for free? Maybe I'm just cynical but I just assumed at the very least there would be some sort of small fee behind a next gen downloadable update if not a full priced next gen version.

This is pretty cool news and I hope it is the same deal with PS5.

Nice. Wouldn't say it's expected, but it's not that much of a surprise because of mid gen consoles and their free patches. Probably not all publishers will do the same. I'd never play this game on a console though.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
We all fucking saw you setting up that double dip.
Except the "double dip" in this case isn't happening.

They'll likely be making the smart move to Series X / PS5 with Cyberpunk just so that their game's sales will continue to have legs after the Xbox One and PS4 are long forgotten about.

This is excellent news, to be sure...

...but I can't be the only person that's exceptionally greedy and is hoping there are Witcher 3 improvements for the XsX coming down the pipe from CDPR as well...

...right? :messenger_sunglasses:

Did MS open the floodgates today or what?

They really did. They even kind of called out other devs in their post since they said this is offered to developers if they want to do so. so any company that doesnt do this, we know it's a cash grab.

Smart Delivery: This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that – whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on. We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on. This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later.

If Sony did the same thing, I would preorder the game today. I was waiting for the next gen version.

There's no news in this.

There's no Xbox one or whatever game s anymore. It's just Xbox games, just like on pc (regarding bc).

We've known this for a long time now.

The death of remasters for next gen confirmed.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

there are still so many Xbox, GC and PS2... hell even 360 and PS3 games that are candidates for remasters... don't you worry, remasters will be alive and well even on next gen :goog_devil:
