Concerning the usb-c, perhaps they’re future proofing? Maybe in time it will be more or wider use? I actually like it and is no problem to purchase some cables because of one gaming device. My iPad Pro already uses it and I even have a usb-c flash drive, one end is traditional usb 3.0 port, the other end is -c.

Why though? At the end of the day does it matter who says what?

Yes it does. Because they were planting FUD. It's the same with those who said that airplanes couldn't fly even when the Wright Brother's were demonstrating their aircraft over cities. They need to be pointed out and publicly humiliated to the point that they lose all credibility and have to go into hiding to avoid the ridicule.

I don't believe the PS5 will be anything less than 12.6TF so that it can be at least three times the Tflops of the PS4 Pro. It would have been ridiculous for Sony to set a target lower than that. I also think that most likely it will have over thirteen TF. I'm sick and tired of the cynics that have been low balling the power of these systems since the start. It is almost as if there are people who want them to be as weak as possible. Are they social justice warriors that simply want them weak so they will consume fewer ratts and produce less environmental damage?

do you think us saying lower numbers will magically make the PS5 less powerful through wishful thinking?
wtf?

I still expect 9.2TF simply because it is the only real number we have (with real we know that at one point it was that)
and 9.2 is a very conservative but not bad figure, so if we expect conservative numbers and get more, isn't that better than expecting 13Tf and then getting disappointed if it is below that?

I really don't get this way of thinking.
maybe I was burned by the Switch, because everyone was hyping that thing up to be a Tegra X2 with maybe up to 2x the performance of the X1, and what we got was not only just the X1 but also clocked way below spec clocks.

4096x4096 textures are... nothing new. Even the 360 supported them, and they have been in use for a very, very long time. The usage is that the comment was supposed to suggest they are using that resolution to cover a space of a meter square. That’s bullshit because on its own, that would produce utterly awful filing. The comment has been taken out of context.

Using a 4096 texture on a surface as small as a Meter square is actually a very bad use of texture memory, and I would be very shocked if that is what’s being done. More likely, you will be getting a 4096 resolution texture density over a larger surface blended with various other lower scaler surface textures for definition.

As an example, we were using 4096x4096 resolution textures for things on projects 10+ years ago.
Can you feel it o'dium?

Like VFX got late last year, some heat coming your way from people not liking your info. Toasty.

I tell you what I can feel. I can feel people who think TF is a single thing that matters more than anything, without realising it’s possible for a system to be better even when it’s 0.4tf slower. Weird how technology works, huh?

Anyone who continues to push the 9.2TF number is being irrational for a number of different reasons. I think that most people who are pushing the number are XBots with clear agendas to try and attack the PS5. Also, I truly think that some of them are social justice warriors who want the system to be weaker for environmental reasons.

All the indications are that the PS5 will at least be twelve TF. The truth is that the GPU in the Github leak will not be the GPU in the PS5. But most XBots are clinging to that number.

Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens info is great and happy he share it with us .
If PS5 does end up over 11.6 all that happen is higher ups at Sony think it was worth it or the person he get info from was not told everything .
Even if he first party which happens all the time still it not really a big deal either way .
I just happy it took us off github for a while at other places LMAO and OB still has it higher so you can always say it possible.

I once met an old man, and he told me many life stories. I sat and listened to him for hours, as he talked about past loves, adventures he had, even his old trusty dog, Ferret, who died years ago. But the one thing that will never leave me that he said was this: “Anybody who uses the term Xbot, Pony or M$, you just go right ahead and ignore that person. He’s not playing with a full dick”.

Bless that man.

I'm not sure you have to think that way, to be irked by feeling that others are freeloading on a value proposition that was sold one way, only for the goal posts to be moved. I'm not saying you are wrong, just that I have no interest in subbing PC gamers getting first party Playstation games on their platform. I would sooner spend that money on more Nintendo first party software or add a top-end GPU to my workstation and enjoy club benefits without membership, too.
Nothing of value is lost to the PS brand though. People who buy high end GPUs for their PCs are not the same market as the one buying 300-400$ hardware to play games. The amount of consoles sales lost is minuscule and doesn’t affect Sony or their games output in the grand scheme of things. The only thing it could do is actually give them back more money for their investment which means more games for the end user So more benefits for you.

Owning a console is not a membership, it’s only a choice, a way of playing games, and more choice is always better for the consumer. I own an Xbox One X as well as a Ryzen 2600x and gtx 1080 that plays games at a higher fidelity than myXbox, yet I still find myself playing more on the console by choice.

15 TF is possible although far less likely than 13.

24tf is possible. MS could release a machine that would be unstoppable.

But we aren’t talking about what’s possible. We are talking about what’s financially likely, and would make money, while still selling to as many people as possible. We are taking about a product that will do the job “well enough” while still being attainable by a large number of people.

And that’s a different talk.

But at the end of the day we have airplanes... Did it matter?

Yes it did. And when people sprout non-sense they need to be exposed and humiliated. For example, now that we know ET life is likely visiting our planet (the Navy has radar and gun camera recordings of hypersonic vehicles capable of stopping and accelerating instantly and seamlessly traveling through various mediums), the skeptics who claims anyone who believed UFOs could be extraterrestrial were nutcases need to be exposed and humiliated to the point they are laughed at whenever they go into a grocery store or restaurant. This might make people think twice before naysaying the next major breakthrough.

So your saying PS5 will be more powerful than XSX despite being 0.4tf slower?

If yes, then how? Does PS5 have better ram bandwidth? Or higher clocked CPU?

Or maybe I’ve answered this several times already, and can’t be bothered answering the same question all the time. If you have an issue with that, there are people to PM.
So you want me to PM the mods to ask them for your track record? If you are asked too often about your track record, wouldn't it be much easier if you just had the link to one of the posts where you answered this and just pasted it every time you got asked?

I wish you'd stop talking so high and mighty. The fact is that it would not make the PS5 cost 800 dollars for it to have a 15TF GPU. You know this as well as anyone else. I don't think it is likely Sony will produce such a console, but it wouldn't be a big surprise. The fact is that Sony has to make this console a generational leap which only teraflops matter. If they don't make it a large enough leap, then it's suitable for nothing but throwing into the trashcan. Sony knows this and they are not going to hand over the generation to MS.

Think of the stuff you buy.

From expensive stuff like cars and kitchen appliances and furniture, to cheaper stuff like clothes, and to other entertainment gadgets like DVD players, MP3 players, old ass walkmans, or even older ass boomboxes etc.......

Let me guess. You buy it, use it and don't give a shit if someone has the exact same model too. And for media playing devices, I'm sure you want your system able to play everything, and don't care if other people's do too. In fact, you want all the products to play everything so you know you won't miss out with let's say some movies only playing on some DVD players and some songs only playable on some iPods. Interchangable and fully supported.

So care to tell why $300 video game players are religiously sought after with walled gardens?

That’s an easy one. I want my games to be closer to art than just interactive software – not a great fan of the excessive generic middleware creep we see today.

I firmly believe that necessity is the mother of invention. Hardware design and software design have cyclically evolved each other in game development – more so on esoteric consoles - and that a game designed with running everywhere as its aim doesn’t even have the premise to be like art to begin with.

If games are designed with a secondary vanilla PC port as a backup revenue stream, then they aren’t maximizing the hardware canvas they were given to begin with and therefore aren’t worth as much of my time and money investment. The sales pitch of console hardware with secret sauce features has to be sincere (IMHO) that the software leverages those features to make fun games, if the software library doesn’t leverage unique features and porting to PC is then easy, console hardware wasn’t needed to begin with would be my conclusion.

Convenience > graphics

Then we don't need consoles at all because we can play games on our cell phones.

The great thing about consoles has been that they are POWERFUL and can be fully utilized by developers instead of having to build PC games that might use a wide variety of GPUs including those that are very weak. The day that convenience becomes greater than graphics is the day that all the consoles go off the market because no one would want them anymore.

T tflopsmatter can I just ask why you’re so fixated on a TF value that means nothing to anybody of any significance that will purchase the machine?

You keep saying things like “triple the pro” and “double the X”, yet seem blissfully unaware that these machines are a damn sight more powerful than that, and a perfectly round TF figure is totally unreasonable to try and achieve, not when you can simply round that number up or down for promotional material.

Going 15,14,13 or 12 makes no sense for Sony, these are consoles, they get tax rebates or something for making them below a certain power requirement, while power is important, games and price and games are more important, people are only throwing these numbers around because the XSX is 12 tflops, also xsx is like the largest console ever made, I doubt Sony will just throw away there hardware design philosophy they have had for the last 10 years.

The XSX is pushing boat out of console norms because it's part of a 2 SKU strategy, it would make little sense to have a singular SKU as powerful as the XsX.

Actually, if you are trying to quietly make a jab at me over my statement of FACT that ET craft are visiting this planet then you really ought to move to a cave somewhere with a thousand other luddites while the world learns the truth over the coming years.

I disagree.
Sony is pushing for power because VR requires it if you want more people to buy-in.

The PS5 needs to be as powerful as possible for a number of different reasons. First, it needs to be a true generational leap. Secondly, VR requires a lot of resources. Thirdly, we are getting deeper and deeper in the uncanny valley where improvements in TF don't yield as much of a return in graphics. To make it worth producing a new console, you need a larger increase in TF than before. If they can't go at least 12 or 13 TF then it is not worth making the PS5.

When it comes to tax rebates for making them below a certain power requirement, Sony should not let that guide their choices. They shouldn't let environmental wackos get in the way of producing true generational leaps.

Jesus how much longer do we have to suffer, for nothing? I’m sure it will be a generational leap. I just want to see the game’s already . Sick of replaying senua 2 for x over and over and over again.

8 - 10 RDNA2 would be powerful enough to have a great leap in VR.
Those specs are still 3 -4x more powerful then the PS4 pro which already deliver a very good VR experience, I'm excited to imagine what Sony's Devs can do in VR with that much power.

Ok, I’m going to be taking a break from this thread for a while, as it’s totally losing the appeal of the technology talk now and common sense has gone out the window. Before I go though, a few things.

1) I’m not an insider. Never said I was, the mods never said I was. I’m not breaking any NDA, as I haven’t signed one. I haven’t signed one, because I have no direct access to development kits at this time, from any studio. If I did, i wouldn’t be posting about it, would I?
2) Stop bringing up Team Blur Games, as if my own indie company is leaking out precious info on its development kits. This is me, sharing info I have from my own sources. Myself and TBG, I’ll say again, have NO DKs. None. Zero. We have no financial ties with any company. Yes, I use our logo, because it’s my own indie studio. My knowledge and stuff is what reflects on the studio, not that I know a guy who knows a guy that owns a dog. Do a little research.
3) Either believe it, or don’t. If you do, chat about it. If you don’t, chat about it. But once again (and may I add, at the same time of the day, with the same faces) things get a little... heated. I posted riddles and things for fun, so I can share with you what I’ve heard, but in a fun way. Because we need the fun.
4) Above all else, use common sense. And stop going instantly into arsehole mode because you have read something you don’t like. It’s totally ok to be on the lower tf scale, or the upper. It doesn’t mean anything this time around. You have no idea what’s coming and truth be told neither do I, or HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 , or OsirisBlack OsirisBlack or BGs BGs .

But, for now, I’m out. I’m gonna pop in and read things, but I’ll be posting elsewhere on the site. I certainly don’t mind people making news stories, or Era posting stuff etc, but... let’s all just be a bit calmer about it all, eh? Let’s not try and bring my character into question. I’ve been level headed this whole time and stayed the course, never once going full fanboy, either side. Give me a little respect, eh? I’ve given you as much as you’ve allowed.

But anyway.... Thanks for the chats, the giggles, the fun. But man, like BGs BGs ... I too need a few weeks off 🤣

I’ll try and pop back in and maybe answer things but don’t expect much from me in this thread for a while.

all I hope is that they don't cheap out on the tracking again! using the PS camera and their move controllers was not that great. inside out tracking is what I am hoping, it's easy to use and works really well now if done correctly. it also eliminates issues when turning more than 90°

Not really going to make a difference anyway as the chances of Sony releasing concrete info in the next month is next to nothing.
