or we will all die because of econoomic reasons anyway
I doubt we would intentionally scale down food production.
But lion's hsare of the world economy is non-essential goods.
Do you need a new TV? Services at a restaurant? Can you skip geting your haircut at friserur? What about buying a new car? Do you need as much new cloths as before if you are mostly locked at home?

Consumption is going to be reduced substantially for anything non-essential. It means large part of the population wouldn't be producing anything (I don't mean material only, also services), because there is no one to consume. This logically means we should be paid less. Government can still keep people up by giving enough money to buy food and stuff, but GDP of the world will be cut by 70% if not more.

On a lighter note

Winter is finally coming (apparently )

For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition. But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions. I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going into town or seeing anyone. Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day. Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.

Perhaps there's hope yet we might see the end of the Saga 🤔

Regarding food banks, I'm going to check those out. It's really hit and miss since quite a bit if it is expired. At least that's been my exprrience.

Plus I don't even have money for transportation. Even so taking the bus is a risk, especially here, where there's a lot of gross people on them and I have to mention again, I care for an elderly sick person so I have to serious social distance.

Plus I'm gonna need money for more than just food.

As far as charity, people are all looking out for themselves. 99 percent of people don't have the money to spare and charity is limited. Shit, if I had money to spare, I'd be helping people out here.

Again, I despise socialism but I'm not against socialized programs like the ones we have but especially in a crisis situation such as this.

But then again I'm not some hardcore libertarian type or whatever.

Even being a hardcore libertarian, one needs to put that aside to see what can be done right now to reach the most efficient solution.

After things are solved, we can resume studying the best models, but right now is not the time for that. I wish people understood this.

The chinese virus. What an idiot. I've heard it called Kung Flu too. At least call it that if you're going to be a piece of shit about it.

Anyway, we need to go on fucking lockdown country wide. The shit is about to hit the fan and we are not preparing. We're still in lock step with Italy and that's not a good thing. If Trumps dumb ass doesn't step up the scientists and doctors and nurses need to come together and urge him to make shit happen.

Also, Nintendo has to release Animal Crossing NOW. Not Friday....but NOW before it's too late.

These are the real issues folks and we have to be prepared.

UK is starting to cancel reeeeeally unimportant shit like TV shows.

From the Guardian live news feed:

"In an effort to ensure EastEnders remains on air for as long as possible, the BBC will cut the number of episodes broadcast from four to two a week, using already-filmed footage."

TO REMAIN ON AIR, WE HAVE TO GO OFF AIR.

Dat doublespeak. In fact, the whole world has gone doublespeak.

Also, they talk about using already-filmed footage. I can't 100% recall, but didn't Orwell's novel talk about constant repetition of shite on TV. DEPRESSING.

Workers at a shopping mall in Argentina have blasted customers who ignored government advice to self isolate with noise as they tried to empty the mall. The workers chanted 'go home' at the customers and picked up kitchen utensils to increase the noise

wut

Argentinians know from experience that banging kitchen utensils on pots and pans solves all the most difficult problems- it’s true!

Classic Trump strategy there, use gimmicks and silly names to point fingers and divert the discussion from the real issues at hand. While people are discussing whether China should be blamed and how to call the epidemy, they're not discussing what they expect the US government to do.

Two days in and working from home is killing me. I'm not even sure it's possible to work from home unless you're working on a set task (e.g. coding, copywriting). I'm intermittently picking up my guitar every hour to stop my brain from shutting off.

This is going to be a LONG year.

I think I might have to leave this thread for awhile. There's some doomsday scenarios in here that are getting me worried and even if they're true there's not much I can do to prevent them. Just gonna take it one day at a time and play some games to escape and conserve money and resources as much as possible

Mr. Community
I won't be taking a check because even though I desperately need it I won't support the redistribution of wealth. Every dollar that's given to one person is taken from another person. It's nothing but theft. I recognize the truth that this is nothing but the start of the Universal Basic Income. There's nothing in the constitution that supports social programs like social security, medicare, food stamps, or the UBI.

Translation: I'd rather rot in the gutters than have a billionaire buy a smaller yacht.

I always hear the american lower classes are often brainwashed into extreme ideologies against their own interests but man to see it in person...

Dude, you're a loser and a sucker who fell for corporate propaganda. Sorry to be so blunt, but there.

Two times a week Eastenders was the best Eastenders, not seeing a downside here.

ONE square?!
Do you shit ants? Honest question.

Like me, he probably eats sufficient amounts of fiber. This rsults in pretty firm and, well, clean shit that requires hardly any wiping. I usually use 1-2 squares.

For those confused about what to do with their ass if you don't have enough toilet paper, just get a spray bottle, cut away the internal hose, and invert it to spray your anus clean. Seriously toilet paper should be the last thing you should worry about.

wow all of this time I was thinking they had no cases

West Virginia senator: "We have no testing, we are not prepared"

West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin told CNN this morning that he was worried as they were waiting for the state’s first case of coronavirus because he didn’t want people to be “lulled into a false sense of security.”

The state is now reporting one case of the novel coronavirus.

Manchin said the state’s population is vulnerable because they have older people as well as people with respiratory issues and diabetes.

“I thought it was just carnage waiting to happen, I wanted to make sure that people understood that they shouldn’t get a false sense of security,” Manchin said.

“What we did, they didn’t test, John,” Manchin said to CNN's John Berman. “Up until a couple days ago we only had 40 tests done, now I think we are at 130 or so, but with that being said, John we have no testing, we are not prepared, people think that we are immune from this.”
Manchin said he spoke to Vice President Mike Pence and told him they need the testing kits and supplies, such as personal protection for first responders and health care workers.
“When it hits my state – and it has hit – it’s going to be absolutely catastrophic,” Manchin said.

But the growth would have had to be much higher if the lockdown had not started to work.

Yes, the lockdown is helping, but until I see that 3,500 cases /day drop it is still worrying.

Other countries are not on lockdown yet, so I don't see the spread stopped. We will see 20k+ cases globally today.

New York City mayor says city will "undoubtedly" top 1,000 coronavirus cases today
From CNN's Kristina Sgueglia

Mayor Bill de Blasio said on NBC’s "Today Show" this morning that there are 923 coronavirus cases in New York City.
"We’re going to top 1,000 today undoubtedly,” he said.

“We’re going to be at 10,000 not so long from now,” De Blasio added.

New York City mayor plans to bring up "shelter-in-place" order with governor today
From CNN's Kristina Sgueglia

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on NBC's Today Show, “I think an honest conversation about shelter-in-place has to happen,” noting the decision “can only be made with the State of New York,” adding he will be speaking with the New York governor later today.

When asked if he will recommend to the governor that the city do a shelter-in-place while the city faces a growing coronavirus pandemic, de Blasio said he is “almost” to that point – saying “we have a little more to make sense of” first, including how to get people food and medicine, “but it has to be considered seriously starting today.”

Some context: On a local radio program today, de Blasio said his shelter-in-place comments Tuesday were intended to "mentally, emotionally, humanly prepare people for something that well might be happening soon," but he added that he doesn't accept media accounts that he and the governor are arguing over this. He reiterated that the city and state are working closely together.

Yesterday after earlier comments from the mayor on the potentiality of a decision on a possible shelter-in-place, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said "any blanket quarantine or shelter in place policy would require state action and as the governor has said, there is no consideration of that for any locality at this time."

Just tell Cuomo that New York City is his mom's favorite child and he'll cave like a West Virginia coal mine.

Exactly, it’s not his fault, it’s the Chineses.
Hé can’t say it’s a hoax anymore so he is accusing China (even if China must react because it’s not the first time).
He doesn’t want to be blamed for anything.
He is perfect.
What a fucking joke.

Welp, the situation I warned my company about last Friday when they deferred the decision to have people work from home until today happened.

Coworker spent the weekend with a potential carrier, her mother. Her mother is also the caregiver of her aunt, and her aunt just tested positive today. She didn't tell anyone her Aunt was sick until yesterday afternoon when she found out her aunt was being tested for COVID-19, and this morning she found out her aunt tested positive.

Now, potentially everyone in the building has been exposed. Good fucking job.
