Why the PS5 is a disappointment

Right now the top guy at playstation is Jim Ryan. He comes from the european side of the business where he's spent a long time there building up the new teams in eastern europe, etc.

He's aware of how popular playstation is over here and is also aware of the large amount of opportunities rising up in eastern europe.

I believe what he cares about is making the ps5 affordable. He has hands on experiences with markets that are very price sensitive.

Typically consoles would quickly drop in price to reach more people faster but last two gens got hamstrung by an unwelcome reality: hard disk drive prices are relatively stable. SSDs however are different: they get cheaper and cheaper, faster and faster. 3 years ago I bought a 512gb drive for 300+ euro. Today 1 terabyte was less than 200 euro.

I think Ryan wants to hit cheap and go even cheaper faster. This was decided quite a bit ago.

Of course, this is just a gut feeling. I am pulling this out of my ass. And I'm usually wrong about things. Take with a grain of salt.

It isn't. Its a massive upgrade from the PS4 and this what matters

Not everything is comparison, not everything is "oh god how can my daddy's console be weaker"

What matters is we'll still get a wide variety of games as always and the PS5 is a massive upgrade from current gen

I want to stress that PS4 situation with RAM helps Sony to dominate gaming consoles and it was thanks to that idiot from Gerbox Randy Pitchford and Adam Boyes. OG PS4 plans was just 4GB of RAM and it would be disaster.

Because unlike this gen they actually have competition this time around and at least on paper the One X is sounding much nicer.

Price will be important too, specially for the larger market. But you can't forget that on "enthusiast" forums like this one you'll find a higher percentage of people who care more about specs and power.

The high-performance SSD's aren't as cheap as you state.

Having a console which is 20% slower (if that's the case) than Xbox doesn't make it a disappointment. Only the games decide that - the Switch is practically a pocket calculator compared to the new consoles but has fun games.

This tflop shit really does matter to the fan boys.

To normal every day consumers, once play-station shows a nice shiny trailer with Spider-man 2, New god of War, new uncharted, new horizon, new demon souls, new rachtet and clank, new days gone, no amount of TFlops is going to help.

Price and games is what matters to consumers.
Sony will Deliver.

I am really confused on who is actually disappointed? We got specs. They seem solid enough, but we need prices to know if they are "worth purchase" and we havent seen a game. Honestly I am just more hyped for game reveals on both boxes. Unless lockhart ruins it we are going to have 10.2tflops as the base next gen... that is sweet.

If so they picked the wrong part to cut. GPU/CPU is more important than SSD.

Or maybe they are right, reaction on the internet seems negative but maybe regular people DGAF and the "no loading times + playstation + cheaper price (?) will result more attractive?, we'll see once they are on sale.

Sorry for your disappointment.

Do what I'm doing and wait for the mid-gen refresh. 🤷‍♀️

Yep, this is inevitable.

There are no games that require 9 TFLOPS to exist. There will be no games for the next 3-4 years that will require 9 TFLOPS to exist. There are no games that 12 TFLOPS will enable to exist that 9 TFLOPS can't possibly produce.

I say this as a Switch owner who sees lots of games that are able to compromise and exist with less than 1 TFLOP.

That said, Sony can totally push a refresh in 3-4 years that will raise the bar well beyond 12 TFLOPS for gamers who want even more. They can still cover that base soon enough.

How is it a disappointment? It's not a disappointment at all. It actually sounds pretty good, and in some ways redicioulsly good.

What is a disappointment however was that they thought starting off with this sort of presentation that isn't directed at users was a good idea. The presentation itself is very interesting, but the wrong thing to start with.

Lockhart? Try OG Xbox One.

are in a big trouble
So if they announce they bought Silent hills, MGS and Casltvaina and have two of these games in the works along with the new god of war and more exclusive titles it's a disappointment really :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Let's see how the games are designed/created for this coming generation. It seems that it will be breed of games, only those developers that grasp the full power of PS5 will be able to deliver on this.

I wasn't expecting much but....i also felt dissapointed.
First of all i was expecting some info about backwards capability - the info was , the top 100 titles of PS4 are going to be playable on PS5 day one, no word about past generations.

Second, about new features (like remote play in PS4), nothing about it, only the benefits of SSD (widely known)

Third, no word on how they gonna deal with Playstation network in the future, etc....

Im not mentioning Power because im not into that honestly.

For the first time in more than 10 years im more interested in an Xbox console.

PS5 is gonna be an awesome system. Learn now while you can, that there is ALWAYS something better than what you have out their in the ether. Just learn to love and appreciate what you have. PS5 is gonna have great games that a lot of people will enjoy. No need to be disappointed that it's not the king.

Everything I have seen today points to a console which is better in 2020 than the PS4 was in 2013.

I'm genuinely looking forward to the PS5. The console is better than I hoped it to be (mostly thanks to RDNA2, ZEN2, BC and HYPERFAST NVME SSD).

I have no idea how anyone can be disappointed at the hardware. It is a dream come true. I am going to buy it. I am going to play it. The games are going to be the best looking aswell just like we are used to from Playstation. While waiting for it I will be enjoying Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us 2 and Ghosts of Tsushima.

I can only laugh at the green fanboys trying to pretend they are disappointed in a product they probably never had any intention of buying, just to spew some trolling.
I get it I get it. It is your "time of revenge" for how weak the original Xbox One was compared to the PS4 and how people shittalked Microsoft back in that day and now you can come out of hiding.

Facts are both consoles are amazing. Extremely amazing. The differences in how third party games are going to look on those two consoles will be extremely small. Most will probably use the same settings or the difference will be in dynamic resolutions.

And to anyone that is genuinely disappointed or thinking this is "bad". The answer is : No this is not bad at all, your perception of reality is just turbo skewed.

Nah mate the ssds and 3d sound coupled with its unique architecture makes it more exciting. The 1st party devs are going to create some magical exclusives out of it because the console is designed specifically for them. I cant wait to see some games in it.

I am a little disappointed, personally, because it sounds like the PS5 GPU is basically just a 5700xt with RT. That isn't gonna seem very powerful at all in 3 years, imo

Maybe I am wrong, I am wrong all the time.

If the price point is 399, that eases the pain a little.

Gonna own both consoles, but XsX will be the AAA multiplat champ most likely

I wouldn't call it a disappointment.

Sure it has less horse power than the XSX but lets see what Sony's first party can do with it but multiplats will probably be better on the XSX. Give it some time and I'm sure Sony will give you a reason to buy one.

Multiplats really do depend on what console is most successful, developers will target the most popular. Right now is there a huge difference between the XBX and the PS4 Pro? I mean yes, games on the XBX are better but is it it a massive difference visually to the naked eye?

I will buy ps5 no matter what they say, and the spec isn't underwhelming at all, I am all in for the high performance SSD and how it will shape new gameplay and creativity in game design (to you guys that thinking faster SSD just means faster loading time, you re an idiot)
I hope the form factor is sexy tho, such as spherical ball

Going of experience with this gen where the gap was smaller between the X1 and PS4 than yes there were noticeable differences in RDR2, TW3, BF4/5 and a few others it all depends on a persons taste in games tbh.
