Guerrilla Games begins mass hiring for new title.

Horizon good and all but I want to play Killzone 5, Shadowfall didn't do justice to original trilogy

Shadowfall had some good ideas but the story and characters were rather bland, which was disappointing. The war setting of the older games was way more interesting and even though the characters weren't the most amazing, Rico and crew had more personality than anyone in Shadowfall.

Read that as Senior Vegetarian Artist, thought we had fresh material for the clownworld thread there for a minute. I should probably have the first cup of tea/coffee before heading to GAF.

Shadow Fall's multiplayer was actually pretty decent. If they somehow could have been at that level of polish and then hired an industry multiplayer veteran to tweak things, the multiplayer would have been incredible.

I hope they are doing something like that now. Take the amazing visuals, landscapes/settings, and tactile feel of your guns, completely drop the name Killzone and any lore from it, hire someone who knows how to make people addicted to an online shooter so they're grinding it all day, and you have the best launch exclusive.

Yup, needs to lose that Killzone stigma. Modern combat is hot right now but the whole sci-fi / fantasy mix that Destiny has going on is quite popular too.

That's "kind of" late recruitment, considering we're getting PS5 just a year from now, so all the launch/early titles are already being played and tested, they're at pre-alpha stage at the very worst. Plus, given the nowadays development time of the games, those people's work will be released somewhere at a halfway, if not at the end of PS5 lifespan. But it's good to see one of Sony's
most technically talented studio expanding nevertheless.

That's good. But not as good as one of the best intros of all times. OF ALL TIMES:

They will know... Helhgan, belongs to the Helghast. Simply epic.

Man I forgot how fire that intro was.

Wasn't the MP designer for Shadow Fall the exact same guy who was MP designer for KZ2?
I liked KZ2's MP a lot, just as a lot of us did. But that was also a different time. If you put that out today, it wouldn't stick. That's all I mean when I say hire an industry veteran who knows the modern multiplayer hooking methods.

Early artwork show some more intricate interaction, at least that's what i was hoping when i saw this. Maybe they can enhance RPG elements of the game and add some Co-op or pvp. And a lot more interaction.

"What's your job title?"
"[SENIOR] Vegetation Artist"

Seems like Horizon 2 is going to have all kinds of 8k grass.

It's definitely not going to be a new IP, and is going to be a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.

I'll put my money the square where you will see Killzone (or similar online experience) before you see HZD2. Sony is almost openly teasing it at this point. I thought HZD was a good first wack at things but the second one needs more time in womb. Don't be surprised by a HZD within 18 months of the first title.

Needs more time in the womb? The game hasn't even been formally announced, let alone has a releasee window. GG are actively hiring for their current project. There is no implication that the game is even going to be a launch title for the PS5, year 2 or 3 seams more likely.

I see no reason why GG and Sony would bench the Horizon IP after seeing critical and commercial success. It's certainly plausible GG has anonther smaller team working on a Killzone project, but in all likelihood their next big AAA project is a Horizon sequel.

I second this. Horizon was the most overrated game of the gen. I appreciated the the snappiness of the combat and enemy design but movement, map layout and pretty much everything else about it felt archaic.

The tomb raider/uncharted/prince if persia styled on-rails platforming was trash. Complete trash. The movement was too clunky.

Someone went out and painted all these ledges yellow... lol

Thats nice but....you don't move 10 million units to go back to a dated IP.

Let another team do Killzone and continue Horizon.

everything else about it felt archaic.

Yup, all things that can be addressed in a Sequel...

Killzone 2 is still one of the best fps campaigns of all time. Its absolute criminal it wasn't remastered.

I'm still not sure how GG went from Killzone 2 to the shit stain that is Shadow Fall. The first two levels were awesome then it went to shit.

If it's Killzone 5, PLEASE let us play as the Helghast finally this time. Doesn't have to be a sole campaign. Just make two campaigns, one for the ISA one for the Helghast, interconnected at several spots if it's too much of a hassle.

Exactly this hiring is probably for unannounced game #2 i.e. HZD2. Decisions are made 3-5 years in advance, the shooter decision was made prior to even HDR being release... teams don't just sit around and wait... depending on where the game is... many parts of the team either have to move onto the next title or get laid off.

It has nothing to do with benching, more like another game is lined up. GG made it pretty clear they are working on multiple projects at one time.... more like a goal to have quicker releases. see Kagero Kagero comment above

My guess based on GG comments:
2020-2021 Killzone MP or Killzone 4 or shooter equivalent... already in the bag (launch window title)
2022-2023 HZD2

Whatever game is next, was actually planned 3-5 years ago... not 2017 or even 2018 or 2019.

It'll be harder to make games faster at the start of a new gen. But I know Guerilla probably doesn't want games that take a whole generation to release.

But I would never want them to sacrifice the quality that they're known for just for speed.

Expecting Killzone 5 (or a new FPS IP) to most likely be a PlayStation 5 launch title and could be an online multi-player only game ala Rainbow Six Siege and Horizon 2 in early 2022.

Personally, I have no interest in Killzone 5 especially if there's no campaign but really hyped for Horizon 2 as the original was an excellent 9.5/10 and my 2017 game of the year and is currently my 4th best game of the generation. The gameplay and combat was so damn smooth, fluid and responsive. From stealth to melee combat to bombs to traps to bows and arrows, one of the very few games this generation that I personally gave a 10/10 to in the gameplay category.

Agreed completely. So far, my favorite new IP this gen. I feel they hired staff because they wish to split the team. I think Killzone SF not doing so well might mean they are going back to the older darker style of Killzone ala 1 and 2. (Hopefully)

Man Shadowfall 2, should be insane...…..Maybe my most anticipated launch game...…...Give us Shadowfall 2 based on Killzone 2's MP...……..chirp and all...….That would be FPS MP nirvana for me.....Killzone 2 MP was the only shooter I played online for more than a minute.....

Horizon was my best and favorite new IP but Days Gone surpassed it for me but it is number 2. Only Ghost of Tsushima could knock it down another spot. Guerrilla has been expanding for a while in order to have two games being developed instead of one at a time. The smaller team which has the guy from Rainbow Six Siege is working on Killzone 5 (or a new FPS IP) while the bigger more expansive team is working on the sequel to Horizon as it should be.

Closest we got to the KZ2 MP, was the Vita one ironically. Chirp and all.

Yep, that was a great game..... SOMETIMES I forget the number of awesome titles Vita had. I wish Sony would have ported Killzone Mercenary to PS4, amongst others, like Golden Abyss...... They ported tearaway, which was great, but not these.......

Anyways, I think a new Shadow Fall has lots of potential, they have more time than the months they had to do Shadow Fall..... So athough they are mass hiring, I think Guerilla has been working on the campaign for a bit already.. I suspect most of these new hires are for MP....

I would love to have volatile Tallnecks too that attack you and you have to climb them to override

I am pretty sure it's for HZD 2. The new hires will work on the 9.2 tflops version while the others focus on the 14 tflops version for the PS5 Pro.

Definitely not. I'll even be surprised if it makes it out by Holidays 2021!
You think? I figured release window late 2020-late 2021... so were not really saying much different.... I would say latest... late 2021.

Horizon is already 3 years old, they were pushing for multiple project teams even during the end of Horizon development. Almost 5 years is very long, they actually said they wanted quicker releases.

My guess is you might be right but than another title should show up in 15-18 months after that.

2004 Shellshock and Killzone
2006 Killzone Liberation
2009 Killzone 2
2011 Killzone 3
2013 Killzone ShadowFall
2017 Horizon Zero Dawn
2020-2021 ? (my guess shooter online or similar, maybe killzone next)
2022 ? (Horizon 2)

My statement was based on what I'd remember reading about them hiring for multiple, key positions 6-9 months ago, which is why I don't think it will be ready this holiday. I hope they won't rush it. Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my all-time favorite games, so I want them to take their time and do it right!

Please be for Horizon 2 the sequel to one of the best ps4 games don't give a shit about a new Killzone.

HZD was one of the main reasons I even considered getting a PS4. I bought and played Killzone SF first and was not impressed at all. When I realized they were the same developers that made HZD, I was disappointed ------------ Until I played HZD, that and QB are my favorite games this gen.
