How many people die after being infected with the novel coronavirus? Fewer than previously calculated, according to a study released Monday, but still more than die from the flu.

edit: not surprising considering people like me, friends, my dad etc all likely got it, never consulted doctor, hospital, etc. canada currently at 1% only at confirmed cases which is biased towards severe cases - likely death rate much lower I think. it still has a strong age bias and high infection rate could still lead to surge at hospitals without isolation measures but I think in time we will see there is a "wartime" hysteria aspect to this that in retrospect will lead to different plans for the next pandemic

These death rates assume that everybody infected is able to get proper treatment though. I would be surprised, for example, if Italy's death rate when everything is over was only 0.6%

I totally agree. Currently there are some positive developments every day and I think that this is just the beginning. Some countries (US, ...) are still a bit behind, but that is only a matter of time.
It will be quite interesting to see how the individual countries will proceed when the lockdown is gradually relaxed. I really hope that at least a mouthguard will become mandatory when you leave your house and that people will use all their brain cells when they get more freedom again.

so i had a dentist's appointment this morning at 7am. i may have cancelled but it was to install a crown and my temp had broken off last week, so this was urgent.

showed up to the door, it was locked, i knocked, the receptionist let me in. they were only letting 1 person in at a time. while i was waiting they came and took my temperature to make sure i didn't have a fever. also someone was scrubbing the floors.

it went well, and the workers were all very nice, saying "thank you for going through with this", i got the sense they had a lot of cancellations. the person who installed my crown kept talking about her rent. we made a cleaning appointment for June 4th so hopefully this all blows over by then...

Jesus... in addition to their travel bans of foreigners who had been to specific countries, it looks like Japan is going to start ordering *all* people who enter the country, regardless of citizenship, to self-quarantine for 14 days before moving about within the country.

The first half of his premise is wrong, so the 2nd part isn't even a thing. It's very clear how you go from needing 10,000 masks to 300,000, it's just the situation we're in.

Trump will drop this point in the coming days like he has with other bad points (I think this is a good thing, a sign of him evolving with the times), there's no need to try and defend him on something so obviously wrong.

People from all over Canada go on Spring break, the numbers in Ontario and the West Coast don't line up with what the rest of the world has been reporting.

Every other major country has shown their numbers increase daily yet in places like Ontario we went 59, 48, 78, 85, 100, 170, 135, 151 over the course of a single week. It's only been over the past few days the numbers look real. Given with what has been said about how they aren't testing everyone (only if you are showing severe symptoms or if you are at risk) I think we're under reporting what's going on here. Maybe there is an explanation but when it doesn't line up with the rest of the world it really looks suspicious.

Cuomo specifically says and I quote "“Not just people taking a couple or three,". So no Cuomo was not talking about 1-3. He could very well have been talking about thousands, he was pretty serious about it.

He basically said to anyone hoarding masks or over ordering that their onto them and to stop it. Clearly Cuomo's comments didn't change anyone's actions in NY if the supplier was still saying its a problem. Hopefully now hoarders and thieves get the message.

But ya stealing masks is bad when Cuomo says it, but when Trump says it now stealing masks is not an issue LOL.
