...lacks reading comprehension.
I said this in the next-gen thread, but I'll say it here too. Have we talked about the built-in mic and how it makes that patent about "Playstation Assist" seem much more like a real product?

They only mention doing "quick voice chat", but I can't see them putting a microphone in for just that.

I just hope it'll actually be useful and offer some deeper integration with PS5. I like that my Xbox works with Alexa, but the feature-set is fairly small.
It's going to be interesting especially with that "Create" button. Then again I always find it pointless to include features for a handful of people that actually use them.

Hot as fuck

I like the design but DualSense is such a bad name. It sounds like a beauty product. Or a lub. DualSense lub, feel the pleasure in and out lol

I don't care for it, and I'm kinda surprised it seems the majority do. It's quite ugly in my opinion. I don't like the two-tone. If they have a solid color version I may change my tune.

I wonder if this controller will work on my Power A charging dock. I always thought that the power A dock was the best design for charging.

If you see photoshop version with a solid color, it looks a lot better... the way the white/black is though really turns me off too.

Already like the original design. These are next level! Especially the colored PS logo. Hopefully Sony releases multiple designs. Can't wait for inevitable design mods!

Yeah in different colors it looks really good.... but what they announced it with is really ugly lol

DualShock referred to the two rumble motors, a small one on one side and a big one on the other.

I guess DualSense now refers to the two forms of sensory feedback. Haptic Feedback and Resistive/Adaptive Triggers.

Also, don't forget the blue is just a light and will probably change like on the PS4. Would be cool though if they let players customise the default colour...

Edit: One cool thing, we can still refer to it as the "DS5"...

Apparently there are hints that the sticks also contain their own motors.

Peter Rubin of Wired wrote:
“Sand felt slow and sloggy; mud felt slow and soggy. On ice, a high-frequency response made the thumbsticks really feel like my character was gliding. Jumping into a pool, I got a sense of the resistance of the water; on a wooden bridge, a bouncy sensation.”

I think there is more to the haptics than we think. I think the black strip on the inside of the grips is where the fingertips rest, which is why the grips now taper significantly more than DS4 and the black area might also have its own haptic driver.

it was back in 2005 so it was a long time ago I just remember it was a big deal cause me and my friends all had the WoW vs Eq2 debate during this time. Lol I feel old now
That was over 15 years ago and had nothing to do with any SONY console so your point is irrelevant.
So listening is still OK?
Who says they are listening to you? You do realize you can completely shut off a controller when not in use.

Does the controller stay on even after you power the system down so it can keep listening?
Nope. The controller has a physical button to turn off the microphone, at least that's what I read. But if you don't turn this off, or if you console isn't shutdown completely there is a possibility that someone could still listen.

Just like you could shut off the Kinect 7 years ago... My point is more about the hypocrisy than the actual implementation.

If it does have a button to physically shut down then your point is moot.

YES!!!! I am ok with having OPTIONS.
I can buy a pack of batteries from ikea for very cheap, I could buy batter pack from sony and charge with cable, I could buy rechargables AA and chare once a week.....
what I personally do is buy a pack of ikea batteries and they last me for months. I was doing rechargables years ago but ikea batteries are just cheaper and more convenient
So you have to buy shit to even use the thing.

ill have to actually feel it in my hands to judge it but theres no way it will match the xbox controller still.

- built in mic seems like a waste of space and time

- ugly IMO

- lightbar is still a waste of space and time (and battery)

-improved size and shape over the DS4

overall seems like a downgrade in some areas but possibly better in feel

Two complaints I don't like the rounded edges on the outsides of the controller and the lack of color on the iconic buttons. Other then that it's fresh.

Here is something to think about: Your smartphone has a built in mic. It's always on and always with you. I'd ditch it asap.

And as for the kinect. I think it was more so the camera that was constantly aimed at you that made people uncomfortable rather than the mic.

That's a whole lotta "if".

On that note, will they be openly listening so as to tailor ads to you based on your current conversations? Is there any sort of command or storage built into the console to store data and a backdoor to access it? If not, this seems pretty apples to oranges.

Most likely an add on to cut down on cost. I wouldn't mind if the one they recently released worked but get the feeling you'll need to buy a new ine.
Ok, so we still don't actually know. He sounded like he knew, but I've only seen pictures that avoid showing the back. I thought maybe I missed some news.

Well if it has got back buttons, it's just as odd, not to mention it

That's like saying you can inplug the Kinect... So my point is not moot. If it was an issue back then, I don't see why it wouldn't be an issue now.

Yeah ... yeah ... yeah, I like how you chose security the moment you knew complaining about 3.5mm jack is no longer valid 🤣
Pleas quote me where I ever said anything about the 3.5mm jack. Hint: I didn't. Because I never thought it wouldn't have a 3.5mm jack, and that seemed more for fanboys to lie about. Please don't put me in that category purely because I point out the hypocrisy of the built-in microphone suddenly not being an issue when this was the case for the Kinect.

Was this the case for the Kinect? I never heard of that. Source?

Having back buttons as standard will increase costs and make it too bulky for the average gamer. I do not think most games need the back buttons anyway.

The headset jack is literally right there in the very first pics of the pad. How many layers of shit to people have in their eyes to not see it?

See that hole at the bottom? The headset jack hole? The same hole as the DS4? You know, the headset jack? Well that's a headset jack.

Now what it seemingly doesn't have is the port that the DS4 uses for the back buttons add-on. So without a port for that, an add-on isn't very likely.

Not if made correctly, scuff manage it fine (I know scuff are utter wank and break). But theyre not bulky,

Of course it is if you can press a button and can be turned off completely. Not sure what you agenda is comparing it to kinect when it was always on listening to you and connected to the internet.

Colorways for this are going to be fun.

Holding my white ps4 cont up to the screen in-comparison makes it look silly and antiquated.

A black with gold trim in a play on the Deus Ex MD theme would be sick asf

Touch pad bad
Light bar bad
Would like to know the security/privacy details in relation to that built in mic (yes, i see the off button).

Is the discussion seriously turning into one about corporations being able to listen in on it's consumers because their consoles controller have a built in microphone?

What kind of community have I joined?

The same concerns that people had with xbox and kinect.

Legitimate concerns. My phones mic is disabled, but if i or someone near me talks about a product, ill get ads on my phone browser a little while later.

I just tried plugging in my wired 360 controller 5 times out of curiosity, but nope, no slowdowns that forced me to reboot. No crazy mouse malfunctions. And that Steam base their stats on hardware that was used years and years ago sounds a bit silly to me. If true, I wonder how far back they go? Will my old 4830, 560ti and 660ti count if I answer the survey today?

Maybe 3rd party controllers play a part? For example, both my 8bitdo controllers show up as 360 when in xinput mode.
This is definitely part of it. I just did my steam hardware survey and my DS4 shows up as a 360 controller because I use input mapper. Not sure how it reports if you use steams native DS4 support but if you use third party controller emulation software more than likely its emulating 360 controller.
