Your thoughts about Nintendo Switch so far?

Hi everyone,

So we've been having the system for 3 years now and as a whole I wanted to know what was your thoughts about it so far!

We have been liking Nintendo for its unusual approach to the industry by bringing us quirky game, features that no other has, easy of use system, unsurpassed 1st party titles and promises of premium quality product quality seals! That's something right!?

Compare the Switch to the previous console. Do you feel like you are given the same high standard? Timeless classic titles, reimagination of their success for the best.

For my part , I think Switch is the cheapest way Nintendo could have been. Lazy port at full price, paid multiplayer, non existent option for friend list discussion, barren console capability, worst eshop ever, EVER. Very limited and boring first party releases, low default storage, cheap joy cons sells for an hundred dollar. I could go on how bad the Nintendo system is comparing to previous system.

What the fuck happened to Nintendo?

Where is Wario, Star Fox, Kid Ikarus, Metroid, F Zero..... etc

I miss the old Nintendo

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'm coming up on 1,000 hours of use on my Switch. It's pretty great.

The Switch isn't just about first party titles this time around (although check out Animal Crossing, Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Mario Maker, etc that are all fantastic) but third party is stealing the show with a wide variety of great games. Honestly, if you can't find something you enjoy on the Switch that's kind of on you at this point.

These are my limited thoughts based on playing it with my nieces here and there (I bought it for them for Xmas a few years ago)

- Great first party games. Not my cup of tea, but I can still appreciate the polish and smooth gameplay
- The tiny joycons are terrible to use. And at $100 (Cdn) for a second pair, no doubt the biggest cash grab ever
- I was surprised at the loading times. I was thinking since the games run off a tiny card that the games would be super fast loading like old school cartridge systems. Combined with Switch games being less taxing than Xbox and PS systems should also help out loading times. I was wrong

hey i read you, but how do you compare the switch to Nintendo Back then? have you been there? Yes Switch is good, but I'm telling you, it's nowhere near what it was before. Mario 64 blew people fucking mind at the the time. Before that? Just look at Snes library, they were mind blowing.

Yeah I lived through the real console wars, and was a Nintendo guy through and through. For me personally, the Switch is my favorite Nintendo console to date.

For me, it's got a great library that I personally feel rivals the SNES but it's combined with the portability of the GameBoy. It's everything teenage me wanted in a game console.

Even my Pro controller has analog issues... can't sprint in games anymore, characters just stop. Huge issue for Nintendo and it's costing us a fortune.

That is a shame but you have a defective Pro Controller. My launch one with thousands of hours on it has no analog issues. The joycon issues are on the hand very real and very chronic. I’ve seen it happen in 2/3 joycons in the same timeframe.

I love the "idea" of it, but I hate how the launch switch rests on the hands. Not even buying a handle attachment seemed to help.

I usually just remote play ps4 on my laptop screen with PS4 controller attached, or I physically attach PS3 controller to my smartphone via a clip.

Port machine, but that makes it a console where vast catalogue of great games has been gathered. Would like that Switch versions of games were cheaper though.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Could be better. Lotta ports. Too many ports. Ports of some of the best games of all time, but still ports. But good ports.

The new games... eh, whatever. I don't like Mario Odyssey as much as 3D World. Didn't like BOTW as much as the older, more focused Zeldas. Yoshi's Crafted World was a joke compared to Wooly World. Xenoblade 2 isn't a patch on Xenoblade 1. But they're still good.

So, it's good. But not great. But the ports are great. But still ports.

I bought mine on launch day and it's still working fine.
Loved many of the games I played on there but really couldn't have it as my only and primary console tbh

Mostly play exclusives on Switch and the rest on PS4.

It sounds like you may be having the issue I had a couple of times where there is a slow grind on the sticks and it gets dust down inside the inner workings. I eventually bought two new Pro Controllers and wrapped each stick with a little of this product. I've never had a problem since. :)

My least favorite Nintendo console which single handedly killed my interest in the brand.

Joy cons could not be more cumbersome and flimsy, the library is full of watered down ports, BotW had too weak of a narrative to hold my interest, and the portability did little for me, bare bones OS is trash, can't even play Netflix, etc.

I only lasted a few months prior to selling mine. While I'm glad others are able to enjoy the Switch, it really let me down after being a lifelong fan.

Great little system. Depending on how you look at it, the Switch is either the "world's most powerful" dedicated handheld or the weakest current gen console evar (or both), but either way I'm really enjoying mine. I don't love all of Nintendo's first party output, but the big hitters (for me) have hit all the right notes.

My daughter wanted one so we have it. Im not here to bash Nintendo, I used to love them. It just collects dust now. She really loved the DS though, she has kind of turned into a PC gamer.

I think the switch was a smart move though. Nintendo does their own thing and they do it well. They have the japanese market on lockdown.

Being the underdog sure was to be expected on this forum.

Todays Nintendo is crap, fuck off
Lmao

Imagine being this pissed for not being able to get a more “amen” crowd when trying to get on your soapbox and spilling “DA TRUTH” about a massively popular system that obviously people like and want.

You never wanted anyone’s opinion, you just wanted validation. Sad.

When it launched I wasnt very impressed. Too much focus on the gimmicky joy-cons which reminded me of how terrible the Wii was. No achievements, No real must have games except for Breath of the Wild which I could just buy on my Wii U. Short battery life. And then there was the price. So crazy fucking expensive for a Nintendo console. Not to mention the price of the accesories. I didn't get one until late 2018 for that reason.

After having it for about 18 months though, it has become one of my favorite consoles ever. Some of the complaints are still valid, the battery life is pretty short and I miss achievements, but it's a perfect little gaming device with tons of absolutely great games. It takes the ideas that the Wii U and 3DS had and executes it to near perfection. And sure, lots of its games are ports and remakes, but as someone who doesn't play 50+ games a year, I really don't mind. I like the idea of having all these great games truly on the go. I picked up the Spyro and Crash trilogies a few weeks ago and I've been completing them since then, and playing them on the go is absolutely amazing. Having most of the best Wii U games in portable form is great, and I've been really enjoying these remakes of older games. In fact, two of my most anticipated games are Xenoblade Chronicles and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, the latter will be especially great on Switch for multiplayer reasons.

It's the first Nintendo console since the SNES to get so many fucking great RPG's, and as a bonus it also has some other 3th party support. Sure, Western support could be better, but I barely play those so I personally don't miss them.

Ever since the corona stuff happened, I've been working on my backlog. I've been finishing 7 games or something but I've yet to start on all the games that came out in the past 6 months or so. Luigi's Mansion 3, Atelier Ryza, Dragon Quest XI and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon are all games I'm really looking forward to play, and then there's Trials of Mana and the Xenoblade Chronicles remake coming both in the next month. And even if there were no other game announcements beyond what has already been confirmed ( Metroid 4, Bayonetta 3, Bravely Default II and a few others) I'm pretty certain the current library could last me until well into 2021 without any problems.

I'm enjoying it so much I got the Switch lite too. The games that keeps coming to the device is really nice, Who would have thought about some of these 3rd party games coming to a handheld like this. Red Faction on the switch is pretty wild. The only thing I'm waiting for is GTA to drop but till then I'll have to goof off in St row :p

I don't own one yet, but eventually I'm going to get a Switch Lite. Generally, I find handheld gaming far more attractive than console gaming. The Switch Lite seems to be the first handheld console in which there are few, or outright no, compromises in quality or game play in the genres I want to play on a hand held.

I was actually thinking about getting one earlier this month, but shortages have ensured that wasn't possible.

Nintendo has felt stagnant since Gamecube. The Wii was an attempt to try something new, but I hated the gimmick. The Wii U was another attempt, and while I didn't mind it nearly as much, all of their properties have felt like perpetual rehashes for over a decade now. I bought a Switch last year, played through Odyssey and BOTW, and haven't touched it in like six months. There's too much other, better stuff out there to play.

Switch is by far Nintendo's best console since Super Nintendo in my opinion. It's got all the Nintendo franchises that vast majority love, a few new IP's, excellent third party support, shit ton of Indies and of course, the portability factor.

For me personally, I bought one just over two years ago but traded it in a few months ago after completing Link's Awakening because seven months later, there's not a single exclusive for the console I have any interest in plus I wanted to get maximum trade in value (received $200) and im waiting on Switch Pro which I do believe is 100% real. Just a matter of time.

With that said, Switch was my tertiary console behind my primary console PS4 Pro and my secondary console Xbox One X. Majority of Nintendo franchises im not really into at all. No interest in 3D Mario, quit BOTW after 22 hours and rest are for the most part of no interest.

I played and completed 5 exclusives - Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Link's Awakening Remake, DKC: TF, NSMBUD and Ultimate Alliance 3 with the last two being games I could have passed on and not missed out on anything special.

At this point, im just waiting to see what Nintendo announces for the rest of 2020 and early 2021.

I never want to go back to a non hybrid console. Joycon need a massive re-think... I thought I would hate replaying older games but I’ve been enjoying picking up titles I missed and replaying favorites.

There is a ton of garbage on the eshop. It’s a real problem.

My big fear about the Switch: Nintendo abandoning the hybrid console concept moving forward and doing something dumb to follow this up

Really enjoyed Mario but couldn't stick to other games on there. It's for people who like single player games.

Bought it for 299 in 2018 bundled with smash. Sold it for 460 on ebay yesterday with 4 games. Made a profit. great console, just not for me.

You can count on 1-2 must own Nintendo exclusives a year, and a shit load of ports, nearly all of which are the worst version of said game. Also agree that the online is inexcusably bad.

I don’t regret owning one, and it’s better than the Wii U, but the amount of love it gets is still nuts to me and I rarely use it. I guess I really underestimated how much people would value gimped ports of their favorite games as long as they’re portable.

Got the console day-one, I am still using my Wii U on a regular basis, while my Switch has been mainly collecting dust. First party output has not been good enough for me, and third party output consists of exclusively inferior titles compared to Xbox One X (this observation is valid for the games I have interest in, of course).

Also, finding a decent input method for handheld mode has been a complicated road, but I finally found a good solution with the Deamon X Machine joycons. However the console is absurdly bulky with this.

I felt that we lost many things coming from Wii U. First of all, having the Gamepad with a second screen was actually quite nice for many games, even if it is only for inventory management or checking a map, or having a few shortcuts. Wii U also launched with a quality web browser you could access with interrupting your game, and great digital manuals for all games. Miiverse was a thing as well, always liked seeing the games played at the moment and some nice artworks by fans on Miiverse. Of course now that it was shut down, you only get the default bubbles with default posts. This thing died with Iwata.

I have not been buying the Wii U games again on Switch as the Wii U runs them perfectly well. I recently got Need for Speed Most Wanted U, the game is quite awesome.

On Switch I mainly played Picross lol. Really enjoyed it. I bought the console on the promise of great first party games, but they are really taking their time...

Also I have a pretty big problem with how the games and huds are either optimized for handheld resolution or TV resolution, with so few efforts from the developers. You either get great results in one mode or the other, I dislike it.

I need to have a good feeling of a console to enjoy it overall, which is not really the case here.

I don't like the form factor and don't have a lot of hours on it. As a portable it's huge and clumsy, controls really bad. As a stationary it's better with Pro Controller, but it has it's issues too.

Best Nintendo console ever. N O T E V E N C L O S E.

The more older games get added to the Online store allowing for immediate play either on the go at home, no brainer. This is like having the Ninetendo+gameboy+internet wrapped into one.

For me personally the Switch is a utter disappointment. Way to little interesting exclusive content for mayor adults. Way to much indie/shovelware/ports of age old stuff. Way to expansive for the stuff it offers.

Give me Waverace, F-Zero, Metroid, 1080, Etenal Darkness, Banjo, Perfect Dark or something similar and I'm in. Otherwise I'll stay out.

It's possibly my favourite console from them next to the GameCube.

I highly value portability, don't care about online and never owned a Wii U so I feel like I'm in the perfect position to enjoy the console.

The main issue right now is the spacing of releases. In 2019 the first 5 months were barren and the second 7 months were stacked. Apparently the plan was the same for this year but now everything has been thrown up in the air.

For me the switch is fantastic. Fantastic 1st party games, some really great third party stuff. Probably the best Nintendo console since the SNES.

I’ve had the switch since 2017 and I think it has a great amount of ports and very good first party games. The one issue I have though is that first party games are so spaced out. 2017 had BOTW and Mario Odyssey but then output slowed greatly with Fire emblem delayed from 2018 to 2019 and animal crossing delayed to 2020. I just wish they ported the whole Wii U collection of old games (NES, SNES, 64 etc,), the wait between first party games is too long.

I love the shit out of it. It's really versatile, fairly quick with everything like waking it up out of sleep mode and just continueing your game and it has a shitton of games I actually WANT to play. I even get multiplats on it because it's so nice to use.

That said, it does have enough issues. Input lag, drift, slow e-shop, bad online, no virtual console because they obviously want to create a gap to resell everything again at full price etc.

I can't really fault people for having issues with the thing but for me it's been a great console on the points that really matter to me.

It's a fantastic console. Probably my favourite console ever.

- The portable aspect finally got me through a tough and immersive game like Dark Souls.
- The fact that it is always with me got me to pump over 100 hours into Xenoblade 2, throughly enjoying it.
- It finally gave me not one, but two home console Pokemon games - both where I completed the Pokedex for the first time.
- It got me, my wife and friends into Diablo 3 coop.
- I finally got into Super Smash Brothers, and played it with a GameCube controller on my travels.
- I have spent countless hours playing Tetris 99.
- I start and end every day at Animal Crossing in my bed.
- I've got into independent classics like Hollow Knight, Super Meat Boy and Deadly Premonition on Switch.
- I have had a phenomenal time in Splatoon 2 with my god daughters.
- I had a fantastic time getting immersed into Octopath Traveller around the world.
- I loved getting Luigi's Mansion 3 for Halloween
- I really enjoyed Zelda: BotW and Super Mario Odyssey, both are landmark experiences

I still have so much to play - Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Remake, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Catherine, Undertale... I will move to a countryside lodge to escape the lockdown and will only bring my Switch with me. The best thing is how nice and quick the menu is, and how fast I can get back into games, the sleep mode is flawless.

Just from the top of my mind. I mean, yeah I could use some more big Nintendo exclusives, but it has been great so far

Yeah I agree, I have said since the launch that Nintendo is the greediest company of the three big ones.

Nintendo sells the worst hardware possible with highest premium price possible.

Nintendo sells the most simple games possible with highest price possible without real sales.

I got switch around second year, I still have only 3-4 games I have liked on it: BoTW, xenoblade 2, mario&rabbids and thats about it.

Mario odyssey were the most boring, depressing and shittiest game I played on that year when it got out, sold it after a month, just could not like it.

Why I think that Switch is a failure as console (while not being failure on sales world wide, and as handheld it is less failure but still could be better):

Non-custom slow tegra X1 (yeah it is slow and it werent cutting edge on the release, they should have had custom SoC with faster CPU cores, more bandwith and 20-40% faster GPU)

Super low amount of mem, 32GB. doubling it to 64 would not been really expensive for nintendo, maybe 10-20$ but they are greedy (back then phones that had 1080p oled, 6GB of ram, 64GB of flash and technically tegra level or better performance(at least with similar cooling) werent that expensive, like oneplus 3 for 399€ vs switch 369€)

720P screen/output (screen would be fine but because of slow tegra, many games wont run even on 720p, and games like witcher 3 are just a joke on switch. Also TV-out is horrible with sub 720p output for many games)

Cheap quality (switch just feels like a cheap toy while it were 50% more expensive than PS4, and still is too expensicve ps4 199-249e vs switch 300-349e, even original Vita feels much more higher quality and better engineered product)

Ergonomics are shit (really uncomfortable as handheld, cant play for long periods of time because of ergonomics. Same with vita but vita felt great with grip add on)

Portable gaming isnt universally popular at all (at least in my country, I have seen one kid playing switch on public)

Idea of switch is good, but bad and slow components not customized for gaming device ruin what it could be..

If it would have 8Gigs of RAM, faster CPU cores like A72, more bandwith and 20-40% faster GPU = it could run games on 720p and have more console ports.

BUT one thing that saved Switch for me is modding and homebrew world, not in means of piracy as there arent interesting games to pirate. But for retroarch emulation, I have played PS1 games(that I own but dont want to play on the ps1) with it and for that it is ok, not perfect emulation but still kind of "one in all emulator system"

I love mine. The fitness game is a unique little workout to help with quarantine. Zelda and Mario were great. Xenoblade was great. DQ XI was great. It's a nice family friendly little system albeit with overpriced accessories.
