It's pretty strange that everything getting much more pricey and it's ok, a 2080Ti for $1400 is ok, but a console that is sold at a bargain of $500 is considered expensive. Most average people I know and even kids I teach when I tell them that PS5 might be priced at $500 (~192 Omani Rials) they were shocked of how cheap it is because of the history of black market prices is still floating around. US-spec PS4 were sold at around $1170 USD in November 2013, I waited while many paying upfront to secure a preorder for them, and got it in 2-December-2013 for an official $470 instead. Well, outsold in hours but I picked it at 9:17am after a call from Sony dealers that I've been call-abusing them about PS4 for months :lollipop_tears_of_joy: . Woke up, took a shower, dressed, took some speeding selfies, and reached the mall in 17 minutes. I remember my hands were shaking when I reached home, literally buzzing as you say in the UK:messenger_winking_tongue:

Glad that preorder is now a thing here, I will definitely secure it, that's if the economy doesn't collapse by then:messenger_fearful:

Yeah, I agree on the pricing end. I was one of those that said I'd willingly pay $1000 (US) for a console that was sufficiently powerful. It is a multi-year investment. But I know there are many who would seriously struggle to hit that $399 price point even. That's why the "last gen" boxes usually sell strong for at least a year or so after "next gen" come out and the prices on the older boxes drop to their lowest point. Like I said, I'm very curious to see how this year affects things. I know a LOT of people have lost their jobs right now, at least temporarily which is still bad since it still means they don't have money coming in even IF their jobs will be restored once things are better. Many others are permanently out of their jobs. I will be interested as well in the coming years to hopefully find out what was being decided by Sony and MS behind the scenes as all of this played out.

Edit- I'm down with the pre-order as well...as SOON as it's available I'll be on the list. Especially with all this going on, I want to make sure I have my hardware reserved as there are likely to be more shortages. Unless of course, I'M out of work by that time! :messenger_grimmacing_

That post about the PS5 releasing in October. I don't think it's that farfetched. I think most people will focus their money on other things by the time November / December hit because of the Pandemic, which these Consoles could then be a tough sell for many. Why not push it up a month to be the first thing to be in the attention spam of Consumers before the Holidays? Just a thought and only if Sony / Microsoft can do it.

I'm ready to jump on pre-orders too. Have $1400 ready to rock for both Consoles.

200 will be insane which thy will probably do once psv drops. What ppl don't understand is there is a whole demographics outside the bubble of well off countries where people don't make alot of money and have to wait years to get a console that costs hundreds. I had a friend on psn tht lives in peru and just got a ps 4 because he couldn't afford it all these years. He is always late to transition and there are alot of others like that, millions of ppl. Drop the price and millions more will come, it's going to happen.
Yeah I think they'll work that into their price announcement for PS5. Something like it $400-500 and then they say how they won't forget the existing customers and are happy to bring as many into the PS family as possible and follow with an immediate price drop to $200 for slim and $300 for Pro (or very soon after) giving it one last huge boost before 5

It will crash and burn no matter what. The damn thing is dragged out way to long. A month of games I could of understand but 3-4 months is just dragging it out. So almost every show will be 1-2 games a waste of time if you don't care about those games. The best part of E3 it was a few days and done not dragged out for extra clicks and views. The E3 replacement needs to be replaced already. Starting with 1 game was not the right foot. Should of been 90 minutes with 6 games give each on average of 15:minutes with an interview with developerment team member.

So I have my own little theory of what Sony is calling "it´s special sauce" or whenever they mention that they haven´t revealed all of PS5´s features yet.

Ever since Sony dropped the price on PS Now a couple of months ago and introduced higher quality games to the service each month, I got the feeling that this is not the final stage yet. Last week we also got the news that games can be tested before you purchase them on the PSN-store. This obviously hints at the possibility that they will use PS Now for this.

Given the fact that streaming will be more and more important and the competition is already gearing up, it´s own services, I´m confident to believe that this is also the direction that sony will go. At least in some form.

So my guess is that Sony will introduce a new feature where every game that you buy (digital or physical) you will automatically be able to choose how you want to play it. Either you prefer to go the traditional route and install/download it or you can stream it and have instant access to it. It´s the ultimate freedom of choice for players and sets them apart from the competition.

This could be either added to PS plus / PS now to add value or they will go down the road where they simply combine both services into one ultimate package.

haven't Microsoft already stated that this is exactly what will happen with xCloud?

Can we please stop posting random people from Twitter as if they're newsworthy? Pretty please?

It's just as valid as me writing here what today's announcement will be, then posting a screenshot of my own post.

Agree. I think it's only 2 people who've proven they have some info in advance: Shinobi and Jeff Grubb (clever hint for Tony Hawk).

Silent Hill is possibly the most speculated "Next Gen" game and I don't think thats just complete coincidence.

The guy you posted was literally mocking all those people playing the insiders right now. Go read his full Twitter discussion.

I don't think you see the irony in what you are doing :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It would be weird for Epic to release an UE4 update for the next gen and some days later present UE5. That's my thought on this, it could end up being UE5 but as I said, it would be weird.
A new UE doesn't stop updates in previous UE.
After UE4 the UE3 continued to receive updates.

Said that every new generation Epic releases a new UE.... PS360 = UE3, PS4/XB1 = UE4.
So I really expect an UE5 reveal before the PS5/Xbox launch.

Welp, guess Sony is more than prepared to lose money on the PS5 going by their financials. If I were MS, I would be looking at this dual console release strategy very carefully.

Now that Last gen games lasting over 7 years minimum come over, when players stay in an ecosystem (whether MS or Sony). there is less need to do drastic discounts as nonody is starting from scratch.

How many of the 110m million would sony lose if they were $ 500 vs $ 400 in first 6 months ? They can drop price or bundle games anytime after launch.

How many more would MS gain if they were 400 vs 500 in first 6 months. Again if above 500 MS can bundle games or services at any time to increase value whenever they choose.

The answer is lower numbers than many think, both will be 500 bucks minimum, and if there is Lockart XSX will be more in my opinion. Both will sell out in first 6 months anyway.

huh? It's the exact opposite. The gaming division of sony is now one of the most important and they need ALL the profits that they can get out of it to feed other divisions.

MS on the other hand is way more prepared they have a huge fucking war chest full of money and they can easily fund the xbox business as long as their recurring revenue business is growing..

but Sony? If the gaming divion doesnt make any proft.. where does the money then come from?

So, Epic is launching hardware? That would be considered this summer's industry news. Just a guess...

Unlikely, we’d have heard rumours by now.

I feel today is software related, maybe they have an agreement for next Kojima game. IIRC, there was an insider on Era (info was vetted itself) who wrote about Silent Hill being in development. And later added Kojipro having 3 offers, 2 from Sony (with 1 being a VR project), the other from a ‘publisher’ whose offer is very ‘lucrative’.

Would fit into Keighley hyping it up, an UE5 showcase with Kojipro announcement at end? Could happen.

Yes, but what happens after the launch period? Last thing Sony needs is MS singing from the rooftops that they are cheaper with the more powerful hardware? That’s a worst case scenario for Sony and I highly doubt they will sell at $499, knowing how price conscious the public will be and how much they have harped on being price conscious in relation to the hardware in the system. That doesn’t sound like a company that is getting ready to sell at a premium.

This EPIC thing today better not be some Fortnite shit.

I'm glad for most of that, but ND losing 70% of senior staff to the competition is not something that should be ignored.

Why don't their contracts include a non-compete clause?

Why would Sony care enough about 14 people leaving one of it's studios to address it in a financial report?

And you can't put non-compete's in game developer contracts because NO ONE would want to work for you. Game development has a much higher churn rate than other fields. Devs would never go for that.

Makes sense, I remember something was said about a feature where you could try any game on PSN for some time like a demo, probably using streaming.

Tht shit matters but it's not end all be all. For the billionth time PS3 launched alined was hundreds more, inferior multiplats, inferior online at the time (which isn't the case anymore) and still outsold Xbox 360 worldwide. Sony's financial trouble didn't have to do with sales tht era but the heavy loses on hardware.

499 is still a price conscious price tag so I don't agree. PS5 will be 450 or 500 and ppl will eat it up regardless of coivid.

And again Sony undercut Microsoft last time and waited, it worked. They are waiting it out again lol this isn't some new tactic Microsoft has created. Latest headlines are so sensationalist, common sense nonsense. Both are waiting it out and so far Sony is winning based on the thirst and views on things such as a mere logo, a controller, etc. M.

Even the bold was overstated at the time and IHS reevaluated the PS3 launch BOM years later and it was $665, not $840.

I will also reiterate that I believe the next-gen console BOMs are being somewhat overestimated and pricing won't be has scary as some seem to think. I hope anyway!

I am pretty excited today and cant wait for noon EST....

Hm....I'm thinking the "hype" trailer is where we get the PS5 reveal date guys! It's happening!

Bro tht game intro logo the other day was pure marketing genius lol tht shit has me super hype, it was very well done. It leads you to believe just like past history Sony will remain to invest in high quality, fun, high budget AAA single player focused games. It was a great message with tons of subliminals.

Like "hey Haters we see you but we'll still be pushing AAA games not AA shovel ware. Also we are aware of what made us successful since the ps1 era"

I was pretty sure the Geoff hype is about the Alienware portable console reveal. I posted some pages ago the Alienware official tweet but didn't get many reactions. What am I missing here?

We've broken this supposed "infinite war chest" narrative down before, thts not how business goes. All depts have budgets and constraints regardless of over arching income of company. Microsoft has no infinite war chest and definitely aren't in a better position. Sony has destroyed them in profits in gaming and have a bigger war chest to pull from in respect to gaming. Stop the fallacious, nonsense narratives only kids would believe that.

PS has full backing of company as it is now the face of Sony and most money maker or one of. Xbox doesn't have that luxury lol regardless of what others say.
