Gaming franchises that you would like to see explore other genres.

What I am thinking about are franchises like Metroid, which started as a side scrolling shooter and then became an FPS,

or Halo, which went from FPS to RTS with the Halo Wars series. Note: maybe you don’t like these games, but please, let’s not talk about that, we already have enough complaining threads.

My choice would be for Capcom to do Darkstalkers as a RE style Survival Horror game. The atmosphere is so unique.

The Last of Us but a Golf game.
I can see it now. Basically the part of Zombieland where they find Bill Murray's estate. Just insert a golf course. Ellie and Joel find Augusta National and have a weekend match before moving on to some peril or such.

Street Fighter Racing - power ups & battle mode

Street Fighter Dancing - SF songs and more, with VN story mode

Street Fighter Ware - As silly as possible

Street Fighter JRPG - multiple story lines, ffvii r style combat system

Street Fighter Olympics - with over the top action and team based sports as well with 5 vs 5 max

Street Fighter in the kitchen - Special moves for three stars courses

I always wanted third person shooters to eliminate a very intrinsic problem: These moments where every enemy is behind cover but you know you can't push forwards because the moment you move, you'd be picked by 7 guys poking their heads out all at once. To keep the games more "flowing" and actiony in those moments I'd love to see some game combine "anti-cover-abilities" like telekinetics from Mass Effect/Control with a reward function for aggressive gameplay (combo multipliers / health regain for combos) as used in many japanese titles.

SO maybe I'm thinking Gears meets Bulletstorm meets Bloodbourne?
I'm having a hard time pinpointing the vision but it would definitely include enemies exploding in slowmotion midair, drawing in enemies with hookshots and exploding cover for combopoints.
But maybe I'm retarded for wanting to make cover-shooters more actiony.

Honestly my interest was slightly piqued back when Sledgehammer was tapped to do a 3rd person action game in the CoD franchise before Acti screwed infinity ward up and they got roped in to help with MW3 and never got the chance to go back to making a 3rd person game.

Great ideas

Devil May Cry 1v1 fighting game. Or 2v2. They have enough humanoid baddies and regular cast. Do a SF5 and a VTrigger which would be the main 3's Devil Trigger. Roster could be: Dante, Nero, Vergil, Lady, Trish, V, Lucia, Sparda, Arkham(Joker in trigger form), Agnus, Credo, Cavalier angelo. Save all the big baddies for 'boss battles' in the campaign story. I think it could be amazing.

*EDIT
Now that I'm thinking about it, I wish I'd have been a billionaire (among other reasons) I would have bought Capcon years ago, and I would have made the exact game as stated above, and put that as a whole full fledged mini game, in DMC5 or 6.

You mean vanquish ?

I would like to see halo go into a third person shooter slash loot grinder game like souls. Spartans always look so cool and seeing one fro the 3rd person view in a soulsbourne game would be rad

I can really see Kirby being the perfect Nintendo character to have a very successful start in an RPG setting. The colors, the fighting, the enemies, the worlds, it would be perfect imo

A chun-li game that plays like a Devil May Cry with her taking on Shadowloo in one large city. You get Guile popping in to help at times.

I too would like to see a Street Fighter action game but I'd like to choose between either Chun Li or Cammy.

I'm still sad Dead or Alive: Code Chronus never got made.

After playing Hyrule Warriors and loving it ( I do enjoy musou games overall tho) pretty much anything is possible within reason.

Wouldn't mind something like a Wipeout or F-Zero management game myself, would be similar to the Gran Turismso B-Spec mode but with much more depth to the management side with pilot transfers and tech research etc Could go even further and allow the player to use their accumulated wage/bonuses from the corporations to fund their own team or invest into the league to expand into new tracks and races. So many possibilities :messenger_grinning_sweat:

The overall aspects of GT. Classy music and the feeling of earning and ownership of some random car. So a crossover with something like Car Mechanic Simulator (or Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game) to enhance that ownership feeling could work. I would love to jump between these 2 in-Game seamlessly and "work" on a car.

Zone of the Ender's: fighting game (like the new DBZ game)

MGS: side scrolling shooter (contra style)

Remedy made a fantastic top down racing game called Death Rally back in the day. I want to see something 3D. With proper love and care, it could probably take a slice if the Mario Kart 8 market, and you know how much that sold?

I always loved the stealth sequences inOcarina of Time. How about a fuller experience?

I would like to see any of the popular mainstream games suddenly getting a hentai visual novel sequel.

OH! Just remembered that didn't Silent Hill get some visual novel game at some point?

I wish more IPs had a match-3 or Puyo knockoff or some other kind of puzzle spinoff. Japanese companies (especially Nintendo) did it alot in the 80s and 90s, which led to some pretty well-known titles.

We need more themed puzzle games. Helps to keep the genre alive and vibrant.

I’m surprised it isn’t attempted more often.. probably about protecting successful IP..

I always thought F-Zero might work as an RPG-racer hybrid.. like, futuristic cities, you could do a more cartoonish Mass Effect style for combat, or a 2.5D Streets of Rage style shooter and/or beat-em up, with a Saturday morning cartoon vibe to plotting.. maybe different plot lines and allies depending on the character you choose - and racing tracks or circuits is built into the narrative, synergizes character/car leveling up..

Something like the last Fire Emblem would be an interesting model..

It’s an interesting avenue to think about, especially with AAA games turning into monstrous overloaded time-sucks no one can really consistently finish..

Like, instead of adding value by throwing in more of everything to the video game equivalent of a five hour director’s cut, add overlapping AAA modes, or sub-systems..

Gwent is an ok example.. or imagine, like, if AC Origins or Odyssey had a AA-AAA caliber chariot racing game built in, and a smaller map.. or the “fight pits” in Shadow of Mordor were an actual fighting game engine .. the problem is balancing all of those modes, so you keep narrative motion but can accommodate “diversions”, and the diversions don’t overwhelm the rest of the game..

Or the marijuana farms and bar construction in Mafia III, woven into the gameplay loop or built into a separate business simulator, but also - like the cargo system in Death Stranding, totally optional..

Take Mafia III as an example - there was so much padding in that game, you could’ve made it half as long, or a third, put that time into sub/side-games, and had something better..

Fallout 76 is a disappointment, but I can’t be the only person who liked Fallout 4’s settlement system as much as (maybe more than) the primary game..

In theory you could make more money, I guess, selling game modules individually (a polished, deep, dense Fallout settlement/vault building community simulator without an RPG plot I’d probably like more than the bad MMO they’re doing)..

But what’s to stop, say, EA from cloning the gameplay from Def Jam or Fight Night, reskinning and adapting it, and putting it in the third Mordor game as “fight pits”, or for a subplot in an Arkham game?

or Rockstar from putting a fantastic table tennis simulator into Bully 2?

Is it technically difficult, or impossible, or just aesthetically tricky/jarring?

Tekken did this with Nina Williams... Guess why you didn't think about that...

And you are 23 years too late with your second suggestion:

I honestly was having second thoughts when typing that game because I was thinking they don't have enough recognizable characters outside of the heros. Maybe this new version could come out after they remake mega man legends 1 and 2 and make 3 then release a mega man battle chase 2 but as mega man go kart. I think the easiest thing to do would just be make a Capcom go kart racing and just go crazy with it.

edit: and wow to not hearing of either of these games. That death by degrees trailer looked so interesting though. I still have faith they could do it .

I agree and Puzzle Bobble > Bubble Bobble.
