Need clarification, all my friends said Gears of War 5 is garbage, yet a lot of the online reviews says its 4 starts or excellent, I am confused

I liked it a lot up until a certain boss fight that annoyed me to the point where I started a thread about it and quit the game.

I mean, I understand that it's designed to incorporate co op but not everyone chooses to play it that way. To have your game ended because your AI partner keeps dying is infuriating.

Played Gears 2, 3 and 5. Gears 5 is the best IMO.

It's just another Gears game. If you liked any of the others, you'll like this one. They took no chances, did nothing new, implemented a bare bones open world that's just arenas without a loading screen.
Saying it's a bad game is saying they're all bad games. I got extremely bored about a third in, but the formula is "meh" to me.

It's just more of the same shit. It's no God of War. That's what it needed, I think. A full reboot. But based on the reception, may be I'm wrong. Maybe people do just want Gears 1-3 again.

I lost interest quickly. Playing as one of the boring characters introduced in 4 is boring. The exploration is boring. Wow, a boring tunnel with five enemies and then you backtrack! The forced walk sections like "dude look at this peaceful settlement which is obviously going to be destroyed in 15 minutes" are boring.
Who gives a shit about the story and characters since midway through Gears 3? Unearned emotion is the name of the game. Characters bitch and moan and the soundtrack screams at you to feel something, dammit!!!
They're trying to fit the square of exploration and storytelling in the round hole that is classic Gears run-and-gun.
It's like the sequel to Commando being Desperate Housewives with some explosions every once in a while.

Glossing over the open segments is kinda an oversight. They were fun, and a big change for a hyper linear franchise. The vehicle traversal as well.

I liked it. I wouldn't go play through the SP campaign again but it was fun.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I enjoyed it. It's fun and pretty to look at. Even though I liked it, I did lose interest about half way through though mostly because there was a huge update that refused to install on my PC and I didn't want to have to re-download a 90GB game every time they updated it.
I'll probably play it again from the beginning, maybe here in a few months.

I paid 2 dollars to be able to play it and I think that was a fair price based on the crap storyline, the empty lifeless "open areas" that serves as nothing more than space for the characters to talk while you travel from one area to another and the overall just boring gameplay we've had for 14 years.

I didn't enjoy it at all. I bought game pass for The Outer Worlds, so I guess if I view as a free game, it's fine. For me, 4 and 5 just didn't have the pull of the original 3. I mean, I don't think it's an objectively terrible game, but there's other games I'd rather spend time playing.
