sounds to me like that the PS5 will be very expensive otherwise they wouldn't feel the need to launch with two SKUs.
Maybe $599 with drive and $499 for digital only

I'm pretty confident that the disc version will feature something 'more' apart from the disc drive.

I probably buy mostly digital anymore but dont want to be limited by digital only.

Plus Im sure ill get a couple 4k BR movies.

Digital game prices are double, only way buying that console wouldn't be insane would be if shops can sell codes so similar pricing to discs.

Disc version just because I expect games to be much cheaper in 6 months for online sales to match only in some specific sales. [think Playstation hits]

Can't answer. Need prices to decide. Probably going with the Blu-ray version. Having more ways to get games on sale seem like a cheaper option in the long run.

I havent bought a disc based game this gen so will definitely get the All digital.

Its probably easy for me as the internet infrastructure here is so good.

The one with the disc slot. It's a complete false economy to limit yourself in that way by completely removing the option of seeing a good deal on Amazon, good deal on ebay and being unable to buy it. I bought Horizon for £10 last week. With an all digital console i'd have no choice but to pay £16 and that seems dumb to me.

Seriously, I can't imagine being locked to literally one store.

I will go for Standard PS5. I am Steelbook collector and enjoys buying CE.
Also, I sell games as well if I really don't like the game that much and I buy used games as well.

I want more option since I also buy digital games.

Disc edition, especially since it can play 4K Blu-Rays as well. I don't have a 4K player but I have 4K Blu-Rays in preparation of the console having one. Plus they have a media remote.

At first glance the SKU with the disc drive seems like the better option, but unless you're die hard for collecting physical games, I predict the digital only SKU will be the better choice assuming most PS5 owners will be buying an additional SSD to compete with the crazy installs this console will likely have for all it's games.

I guess it depends how many TB the original SSD that comes with the console is though. With the way things are going, by next gen video game releases will likely be fully digital, no physical media. Sony and other publishers/developers will save a ton of money abolishing it. And maybe the cost of games will drop too because of it. Possibly.

It might be more cost effective to buy the digital only SKU as you'll likely still need to buy another SSD later on to compete with the crazy installs this console will likely have for all it's games. I guess it depends how many TB the original SSD that comes with the console has though.

Maybe once they have a 100% monopoly on selling games in literally 1 store with no refunds allowed will they get cheaper? Yeah right, they're already way more expensive. You rule out every retail sale in existence and competing businesses in favor of one store.

Even if the disc drive is $100 more, it'll pay for itself with cheaper games purchases from just a handful of sales. Every time you get a game for $10 cheaper, which happens a lot, adds up.

People aren't taking into account the small SSD. Remember it's only 825GB. If they compensate by having maybe a 1.5 - 2TB SSD for the same price then maybe I'll consider it. We're not fully sure how we're going to upgrade the SSD yet or how much it'll cost.

Keep that in mind people.

Depends on Brazilian prices lol

But right now I'm going with BD drive version.
Said that the Digital version looks even better.

I prefer digital but in Australia, it's $99.95 AUD for a new release digital game and $69.00 AUD for physical so whatever the extra cost, I will make that back buying physical pretty quickly plus I can on sell the games. I feel like someone buying digital is shooting themselves in the foot. Don't forget re-sale value when the Pro version comes out later on too. I think people don't think about these things long term. They are testing the waters with the digital version, at least in Australia unless they make the digital price more desirable and they allow you to at least gift games like Steam, digital is probably not going to sell that well at all.

You can still buy digital anyway with the physical drive version, why cut your options if you can afford that version.

I'm definitely getting the disc version.

The option of choosing between digital and physical, along with still being able to run your physical PS4 library and 4K blurays makes the digital-only one completely pointless to me.

Question. How will Sony allow pre-ordering digital launch games for the inevitable bonuses etc?

I'm more or less 100% digital but I will go with the drive unit I think. It is handy to have a drive.

It's true, if PS5 games are not sold in any physical stores Sony could just set the price of them to whatever they want and price gouge consumers. They could do that.

But I don't think they would be so coy as to do it. When consoles (or their games by extension) become unaffordably priced by previous standards they dont sell very well. Sony should know this by now, I'd hope.

I love how they came out of nowhere with the announcement of an all digital version. NO ONE was expecting that or even talked about it. Amazing.

I don't see a reason for myself to purchase it with a disc player...haven't bought physical game copies in 3 years. I have glass fiber internet...no reason at all to buy physical copies for myself.

Digital version for sure unless there is more SSD storage on the disk version. I haven't put a single disk in my ps4 pro since I bought it.

depends on price but i know i wont put any disc in it anyway. would like to digital be cheaper , becuase no drive inside . and that cost money, if not then give us free 4k bluray drive Sony.

Not sure, will need clarification from Sony as to whether the PS5's disc drive will be able to play any backwards compatible games or not.

The all-digital version looks better, and will hopefully be cheaper. I don't plan on buying any physical discs this time around, but it'd be nice to be able to play my existing 200+ PS4 games I have on disc.

Digital for me. I haven't even used the disc drive in my PS4 Pro at all.

For all you people saying digital is more expensive, that seems to be a UK problem and maybe a few other places. It's always been cheaper for me to buy from the US PSN store because there isn't any tax. I'm also overseas and the local physical copies are lot more expensive here than they are in the US and they never go on sale.

Really will depend on pricing, but I'm pretty much all digital now anyway, so likely to go with the digital one. I haven't used a disc anywhere in a long time...

Definitely discs.

For backwards compatibility, Blu-rays, etc.

I'll probably download all digital though, but I want the ability to play discs.

Probably digital since I plan on moving around a lot in a year or 2 and don't want to be lugging around a lot of games with the console.

edit: I totally forgot about the 4k blu ray movies. I might buy the disc version just for that.
