I give a 8/10 because Sony delivered everything we were waiting for.
Only downsides are :
- the quality of the video (on my 4k oled that looked awful)
- the look of the console that I don't like, even though I don't care as it's hidden under my TV
- the format of the conference, being on a real stage with actual people around is much better
-I miss Kaz :)

Are they overdoing it with ray tracing? Seems the reason they couldn't push for better geometry for the tracks and the enviroments. They are also pushing high resolution and high fps.

I think it's more with fps, but ray tracing adds above it. Overall it looks very nice but needs more polishing as I spotted some ladder effect, maybe it's VRS.

Made these animated PNGs for easy comparison.

If they use ray tracing and are pushing for high fps, then I see why they have these problems. They brute force the hardware instead of optimizing around it.
This reminds me of the early games of PS360 generation. Developers didn't not know what to do with the new tech in hand. Early game were all about brute force which resulted in some ugly games with bad performance.

I can't say, but lots of calculations happen inside the car, people underestimate those sim games but they're not as simple as they appear. Final product should look better, I think.

I found the show very good yesterday, I would say 8/10.

Horizon looked spectacular and Gran Turismo 7 reminded me a lot of Drive Club; not only because of the same vehicles and camera perspective used, but also because of the light. But ... flat grass again. Otherwise it looked very good!

Many of the indie games looked pretty interesting! Kena e.g.

But the PS5 itself ... I don't know if I'll get warm with the design. I would have liked the DevKit design or a lean on it. But I also don't have a console to look at, so that's not so important to me!

Spider-Man Miles Morales is an expansion.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter said that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales would include “major enhancements” to the 2018 PS4 game.

“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” he said.

“There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”

Asked whether such familiarity was an important part of transitioning an installed user base from old machines to the new, Rutter said:

“I think what is very interesting for everyone to see is how familiar games might be to some degree changed through the workings of PlayStation 5.”

SlimySnake SlimySnake I told you last night, it looked like building upon PS4 game engine, rather than being built from the ground up for PS5. R&C looks to be in that territory.

I was watching the event looking at the timer anxious for the next announcement. As for the 3rd party Xbox event, it seems to me that we always would be expecting more. We expect the next event to be better in every possible way. Now is Xbox July event, then it will be Sony August event. I think both consoles will be fine and both will have their biggest hits, but they will split/hide the announcements as neither of both consoles have the games ready for lunch.

On Sony side if you haven't PS4 you have whole bunch of exclusives which shouldnt be missed. Ive sold my pro, so my launch titles will be TLOU2 and Got

I think it's a pretty strong first/second party line up for launch! also third parties look good too and we still need to see even more games in the coming months. Good times ahead

do we know how many of the 1st party titles will be available at launch?

Catching up ...

For me, bold italic = day one interest, italics = interest piqued
Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac)
Gran Turismo 7 (Polyphony)
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (Insomniac)
Stray
Sackboy: A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital)
Godfall (Gearbox)
Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio)
Little Devil Inside (Neostream)
Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games)
Deathloop (Arkane Studios)
Horizon II: Forbidden West (Guerilla)

Ghostwire: Tokyo (Tango Gameworks)
Jett: The Far Shore (Superbrothers)
Solar Ash (Annapura)
Hitman III (IO Interactive)
Bugsnax

So yeah quality showing for me. Solid 9/10.

Other points:
  • Format was great, games, games, games, very little chat, all captured on PS5
  • 4K versions of videos are much, much more impressive than the crappy quality stream
  • I like the look of the console, it's got some design and form to it, bit marmite but I like it
  • Little Devil Inside was my surprise of the show
  • Lots of variety, interesting and wtf (in a good way) games - and the odd wtf in a bad way *ahem*Volcano High*ahem*
  • Some Console exclusive for a limited time releases - I get why platform holders do this, and why it can benefit devs, I just don't like it as a practice

PS5 will far outsell Xbox Series X, predicts analyst

Harding-Rolls expects Sony and Microsoft's sales to show a slight decline with the new generation, selling 103 million units combined through the end of 2024, compared to the PS4 and Xbox One's 109 million combined sales in a comparable stretch of time.

As for how that number breaks down, he expects the PS5 to have an installed base of 66 million by the end of 2024, compared to 37 million for the Xbox Series X.

However, Harding-Rolls doesn't believe the difference in sales pace won't be as pronounced early one, projecting the PS5 to sell 4.6 million units this year compared to 3.3 million for the Xbox Series X.

I have a feeling that GT7 was supposed to be a PS4 game - but PD being PD, it didn’t make it and is now jumping to PS5. It’s the only way I can explain what looked like a “rushed” trailer.

Unless we find out they really are running it at crazy high refresh rates and visuals are the compromise for that. I might be in it’s with that idea - but need to try a demo in that case.

Still, I think it’s a long way off now which is depressing.

Yamauchi must have incriminating pictures of someone senior in the Sony management - no way he’d get a pass for such slow delivery in any other company. MS would’ve shut the whole studio down years ago.

Now ...FUCKING FURRIES THE FUTURE OF FUCKING GAMING FUCK YOU SONY FUCK YOU FUCK YU FUCK YUUUUUU
Gaming as an industry needs a complete overhaul is marketing, leadership, and journalism. This is fucking.... I don’t even know how to describe it
My great grandchildren are still gonna be playing that overrated piece of shit GTAV
Do videogame companies don’t know how to have an event anymore??? Watch those fuckers blame it on Covid. Fuck off
These robotic ass animations...this doesn’t look next gen
Can we get this guy to chill in the sin bin for a bit please Mod of War Mod of War
It's only realistic if all the players are in Orlando passing around hookers from Hotel room to Hotel room
What is this related to anyway?? Orlando shooting?

I found the trailer otherwise good, also graphically, except for the grass, there wasn't much to complain about - I don't analyze such a trailer either^^

Otherwise, Yamauchi seems to bring in enough money, because Sony has also closed other studios. But I also think GT7 was already in the works for the PS4.

I got a slightly different response to that trailer. I thought it was surprisingly complete for a GT reveal - despite not attaching it to a date. The usual replay cam was followed by actual race/gameplay footage and extended look at the interface.

I couldn't get the 4K video to run at 4K last night. It was tagged as 4K but when playing would only go to 1080p. All the other videos were fine in 4K. I have a feeling it's closer than you think, but it is PD. The other thing I noticed was that the sound seemed a big improvement on the usual GT series games (though GTS was already a definite improvement on previous titles).

Yeah, the slack they are seemingly given is impressive, you have to wonder. I think some of the slack this gen was because they were building something more transferable to PS5 - so hopefully that bears some fruit.

What I meant by launch is that probably at least half of those games will be available within the console's first months of life. I know games like Ghostwire, Pragmata and Horizon are still months and month away. I didn't wanted to make it sound like every game shown was going to be a launch game :messenger_grinning_sweat: sorry if I did

The box is futuristic, cool, interesting and yet the most non-iconic, indistinct design I've seen in a console... I really don't like it, that's not an image that's gonna stick with people through the ages like a PS1,2,3, even 4...
The design almost looks like a white virgin tivo box that just melted. The lines are totally incoherent, I just don't get what they were thinking there. There's also loads of negative space, it's just really, really bad.

*cue the xbots saying PS5 runs so hot the shell melted*...
I guess the product designers who have industrial design diplomas in that specific field should eat their diplomas even though it is their specialty and sorry but who are you? where did you get yours?

It is your taste, so don't go technical terms on us like you know, you know jack-all, what you see is an especially dynamic design with memorable lines all fluent with their roman numeral V icon in mind...
