$399 disc less sold at a loss but recoup through PSN sales.

$499 sold at cost or very little loss.

That's my guess.
Prices are pretty spot on guesses, but with Disc SKU will not be at cost, it will make them money bc disc reader only adds around 20$ and BOM should be around 470 with that included.

So 450$ Digital Edition BOM at pretty much 50$ loss but Disc version will make 20$, and as you say Digital Edition recoups the loss with ONLY digital sales with exactly no resale possibility. THAT is smart and bounds better strategy than 4 & 12TF machines together to gimp your library...

And he was dead wrong about Silent Hill.
So you are forgetting we will be having an event in August too my friend??

That's my bet too.

Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt. Same crap happened with the controller. And TLOU2. 🤣

The people on here and elsewhere spreading FUD don't realise that being as toxic as possible actually puts people off your brand of choice, it tarnishes it. So what is the modis operandi? The more FUD the more Sony wins in effect.

If I wanted to do Xbox marketing for free I'd promote a 'be as nice and accomodating as possible' policy. Be noble and courteous. In the long run this enhances the brand. This is exactly what Sony does.

Being Tim Dog level of dumb, with drive bys and hot takes, or Aaron Greenberg level of desperate, doesn't win over anybody but people like Tim Dog himself or Arthur Gies.

Not sure if this was posted

It turns out Spider-Man Miles Morales on PS5 is an "expansion" to Spider-Man on PS4

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph (paywall) published this morning, Sony Interactive Entertainment EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter described the Insomniac-developed title as an "expansion" and an "enhancement to the previous game".

"I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game," Rutter said. "There's a substantial Miles Morales component - which is the expansion element - but also within the game as well there's been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PS5 technology and features."

I got a slightly different response to that trailer. I thought it was surprisingly complete for a GT reveal - despite not attaching it to a date. The usual replay cam was followed by actual race/gameplay footage and extended look at the interface.

I couldn't get the 4K video to run at 4K last night. It was tagged as 4K but when playing would only go to 1080p. All the other videos were fine in 4K. I have a feeling it's closer than you think, but it is PD. The other thing I noticed was that the sound seemed a big improvement on the usual GT series games (though GTS was already a definite improvement on previous titles).

Yeah, the slack they are seemingly given is impressive, you have to wonder. I think some of the slack this gen was because they were building something more transferable to PS5 - so hopefully that bears some fruit.

I see what you mean “as a game” there was more shown. I just meant that the trailer seemed to lack production value.

Like I think back to the GT3 Feeder trailer - that just blew me away because the music was in your face and many types of different racing was shown.

Having said that yeah there did seem to be better sound quality this time round - a long running complaint about GT.

I actually felt the city view with the pictures - to me that looked like a development placeholder menu pasted onto GTS rather than a proper menu for a next gen game.

But ultimately I’ll be more than happy to take the menus and things in that form if the driving is great. If it is coming soon then even better - I think I’ll wait to get a PS5 until GT is out this time.

There is a single moment in the video right before the end, where the console starts off at about 60° from the side and then very rapidly turns towards the viewer. Very rough estimate, but I'd say it's more or less 20-25cm long, from what we can tell. Definitely much taller than it is deep, in any case.

Completely agreed.

What's with the scale on these photos? The XBSX is 30.1cm tall, the PS4 Pro is 28.8cm. The scale is completely wrong.

I had to review what I saw, before entering this thread again...

Ive never played ratchet and clank, but definitely buying this game. Demon souls, looks freaking gorgeous!!

HZD - .... Just wow! Seriously... the foliage in HZD2 is ridiculous, it looks so lush - that id probably spend a good amount of time, just walking into plants - to see how they move.

SE also lied to us! :lollipop_neutral: They said they weren't making a next gen title! :lollipop_beaming_smiling:

Gran Turismo 7, I need to see more. Obviously it looks and sounds great, but I need to know about the available customization and its online component..

Two games that really caught me off guard (as well as RC's teleporting business). Were Little Devil Inside and Kena... I REALLY like the aesthetics... Kena looks like something from Pixar and Little Devil Inside gives me Tim Burton/Zelda feels.

I know not all these titles are "launch" titles... but damn thats a very strong line up imho.

About the Console design... Well I expected something different and this was different alright. It looks very next gen hahaha. My initial response was mostly "Wtf... wtf... ad infinitum"

All in all, I think this event was far beyond my expectations. Really hoping for a closer look at these games in the next few months and the teardown :lollipop_beaming_smiling:

I don't think the disk reader can justify a $100 difference, if nothing else changes. The component itself is probably closer to $30-40, but they will round it up to $50 for simplicity's and marketing's sake.

I am also extremely sceptical this machine is going to cost $400, even if sold at a loss. It was estimated by a Bloomberg analyst that the cost of parts and assembly alone is around $400, so if you add transportation, tariffs, taxes and a share for retail stores it's unthinkable that putting a PS5 in your home will cost Sony less than $500 in total, probably more in several regions. A $100 undercut on even just the base unit seems unnecessarily risky to me, since they are starting with a brand advantage over Microsoft and they will definitely have a broader and more impressive lineup during the first 3-6 months.

IMHO best case scenario we are looking at $500 and $450 diskless, but more likely $550 and $500 diskless.

Discless could be $100 cheaper because of elimination of second-hand games and being digital only distribution. They want it to outsell disc version. More money for them. So i expect sweet price on this version over normal.

Another one is a BIG DEAL, is it parallel universe or something else etc.?

I remember people saying "this isn't gameplay" or something along those lines about Horizon Zero Down, and then it went straight into gameplay.

The first party games (on both PS5 and Xbox Series X) are going to get us moist.

Remember that this was ONE YEAR AFTER the console reveal & release, so timetables for PS% gen has moved forward, we will get great looking AAA sooner than people think. Spider Man MM is just an example for this as a standalone spin off. Just wait and you'll see!

Good point, but that's still a hard sell in my opinion.

If they have too large a divide between the two, they either lose too much money on one or make the other too expensive to be a viable option for many people. I guess the latter could be their "plan", but I still think it's more likely they will simply keep the price difference lower and sell both within a price range that makes them widely appealing but not too much of a loss per unit.

Some of the guys here are missing a big point.

Even indie developers are able to now make games that look as good as some of the bigger studios from last gen. And this is at the very start of this new gen.

Just let your imagination run wild on what all we will get to experience over the next few years ( pending an alien invasion ).
THIS.

and I just want to reiterate "Even indie developers are able to now make games that look as good as some of the bigger studios from last gen. And this is at the very start of this new gen."

The YouTube video of the reveal is now at 11.2 Million views.... this is just the English version of it

A lot of talk was spent on the marketing strategy, but look at how effective it has been.

Every time it’s the same story. A vocal minority screaming top of their lungs how ugly everything is, but the numbers keep stacking up, the hype keeps building.

We just need UI, teardown price and release date -> probably in July after xbox event.
In august i think we will see TLOU2 and GoT in PS5 version, and gameplay from launch titles.

Yeah I saw over a million people in the live stream on just the English version. They're building anticipation and keeping people wanting more.

They had years to make demos for these conferences though. 3.5 years for horizon, 2.5 for demons. i blame this squarely on sony marketing. we are what five months from launch and we have no idea what the launch lineup looks like.

the demon souls gameplay screenshots dont look too hot either. gow looked as good. now im doubting the trailer.

It looks pretty current gen to me especially compared to horizon which literally looks like a pixar movie.

lol i see you joined a few months ago. i have been here 8 years. go look up my post history if you have any doubts. i have been doing this on forums for over 20 years.
Relax, this is Sony's drip feed policy to make sure that you stay fiery until the console launches :messenger_grinning_squinting:

So I know from my Pixel 4 that the USB C gets its own port, but please tell me there's another USB on the back?
I would hope there is at least one in the back for connecting an external HDD for storage and backwards compatibility. Front one is probably meant for accessories like the DS recharge bay.

USBs are really inexpensive, there is no reason to go super cheap on those.

What do you think if:
Digital Version: Plays PS5 games.. and is cheaper
Version with disc drive: Can support BC with PS3, PS2 etc, they can justify charging more here

I know what's making me hate the design of the PS5. It's the damn blu-ray drive. The digital version looks much, much better. That drive sticks out like a sore thumb. :/

It's still a huge videogame though what the hell. Taller than the PS3 and almost the same thickness. That's freaking insane. It probably has a huge fan inside, something like the OG XBO. Maybe bigger. Who knows
