Shitty minimalist hipster shit for neckbeards with tattoos of their favorite 90s cartoons.
yeah they just upped the resolution of the original gameboy by 10x and made a screen for it. so its upscaled 1x1 although GBA would be 6x (source: https://obscurehandhelds.com/2019/10/analogue-pocket-the-game-boy-to-end-them-all/)Cross posting from the pre-announcement thread since this is more clear in the title:
This thing looks completely f'ing nuts. Analogue really hit this one out of the park.
Brb, gotta buy some games at Lukies before prices hike!
I hope they put the FPGA logo on the back, it's the only thing between this and design perfection
EDIT: Here's what I got
I hope they announce official cases. This thing is so beautiful I need one to travel with.
Second thing I really hope Analogue would bring is save states, it’s my only reason to prefer Mini consoles.
A fun fact from Ars Technica comments section - the resolution is so high (100x) that you could try to replicate the look of the original pixels by having a grid of smaller black pixels around the game pixels:
So we don't know how much the hdmi out dock is going to cost, but the benefit of this is you aren't going to have to canibalize a GBA to put in a form factor that can never be played portable again easily. This might end up being cheeper than buying the Gameboy Advance Consolizer.
If the screen is 1600 x 1440 it's exactly 10x the original and will provide sharp pixels, but they could have get the same effect with 800x720 screen too with x5 scale... can't say what made them choose 1440p screen, maybe somehow it ended up being cheaper and/or easier to produce?
It looks tidy but I just got a Switch lite for £200 and being all digital I don't need to carry stupid cards with me like I'm a kid from the 90's
What did they do, send Super NT's or the wrong colored Mega SG's?Will they send people the right ones this time though?
Their distribution partner royally fucked up the Mega SG release.
Probably, as with all of Anlogue's other recent releases, there is going to be a firmware for you to play your own backups.A simple flash cart would solve that, ethics aside of course

This looks amazing. Probably not going to happen, but I hope the ability to play SNES and Genesis games on this comes someday.
So with the potential to develop new cores... does that mean we could see SNES or NEOGEO on this thing?
I don’t get exactly what you didn’t follow but let me explain. If I have a collection of GB games and a GB I can still play all of those games with that system. I have my original GB color and I can put games in and play them just like I did 20 years ago. To me they still look fine because they were designed for that hardware and those screens. This is also completely missing the mark. You can buy a NES or SNES for about the same price as a decent GBA. Yet, nobody wants to play on a GBA with the original screen. After modding, the cost rises to substantially more than an OG NES or SNES console. With so many clone consoles available for playing the whole range of Nintendo cartridges from NES - GBA as well, it's very confusing why you would saying people with large NES or SNES collections didn't have easy solutions for playing those games. I have 100+ SNES carts and I've never felt any shortage of ways to play those carts.
Your whole post has my head spinning.

This looks super awesome. It needs to support Game Gear though.
That's what I was thinking, the only reason I can see for this is that it would allow for either very nice upscaling filters to be used or better some accurate/ per system LCD filters.1440p screen for 160 x 144px GameBoy games?
Also wondering the same. Been waiting to hear more since it was announced, then... nothing.Stoked, when is this thing coming?
It is not software emulation. It has two FPGAs. I guess people will develop SNES, NES and GEN implementations for the second FPGA, eventually. Is there a reason why this wouldn't play SNES, NES, and Genesis ROMs? If it is hackable an emulater could be installed correct?
I dont think so. I subscribed recently so i wouldnt miss itDoes anyone know if they've already taken preorders?
