Microsoft's Cheaper Next-Gen Xbox CPU Is More Powerful Than PS5's (best case: 100MHz)

Tom Warren, reporting for The Verge, has revealed that the Xbox Lockhart will feature the exact same CPU speeds as the much more powerful Xbox Series X, according to a document detailing its specifications. This means Lockhart will have a faster CPU than Sony's PS5, which tails Microsoft's consoles by 100 MHz in a best-case scenario.

Of course it is if it exists, they only need to downgrade the GPU for non 4K gaming there's no reason to touch anything else.

The fuck you say to me!?

Microsoft really needs to fire their marketing team. I haven't read the article, but that title doesn't convince me to want to check out what's inside or make me excited to check out their hardware. XBoX was the most powerful console and it hardly change any minds. Why would they continue this line of marketing?

The reason people by gaming console is for games!! Show me games that are good and it will make me want to buy your hardware. All this chest beating just screams insecurities. Has Playstation even bought up xbox at all in their marketing? You know why?? Because they don't want to alienate potential customers.

Another missed shot for MS marketing team.

lol, this has nothing to do with MS's marketing team.

It's from Tom Warren; he's a try-hard who I think REALLY wants a job at Microsoft.

Would literally be a major FCC violation if he was actually a paid shill; he's just a boot licker who slobs MS's knob so much he has friends on the inside so he gets info.

He should really stop, because he is really making them look bad.

I think this was already known? That the suppose series S model would have a similar CPU, SSD, etc, just a weaker GPU and I think less RAM? The headline is pretty sensational, that makes it feel like the difference is bigger than what it is. Can’t blame Microsoft for that though, it’s clickbait shit.

The XSX and Lockhart needs more than those 100MHz for file I/O and sound handling, so in reallity it's probably the PS5 that has the stronger CPU in the end.
XSX has dedicated audio hardware, I imagine that XSS will have the same

Yes it has, but as I said, not to the same levels of the Tempest engine, so the CPU is not completely off-loaded. at least that's what I've heard.
Well that's specific Sony hardware, and the full use of Tempest engine will be seen in first party games. In all other games we have to take PC into account, and most games won't sacrifice CPU for amazing sound if they can get OK sound. I also think the dedicated hardware for XSX will only be used to their fullest by first party.

I mean, now CPU is going to render pixels? Hallo? That Series F box contains really sub-par GPU...

Lol obviously not. That said, generally the CPU's role with the GPU is to issue it the graphics instructions for the GPU to perform. So the better the CPU in that respect, the less the GPU is bottlenecked (also explains why the PS4 and XBO struggled in many games to hit 60 FPS; the CPUs just weren't good enough most of the time).

But it's a very odd and clickbaity article to write when they could've just said CPU is "more powerful"...which isn't actually new news for the past week or so. Their ad revenue must be taking a beating.

I know, I just find that article stupid, that's all.
