Yeah I saw and read that small printed stuff while watching the livestream and couldn't stop laughing.
So it begins.
Gamepass is going to be a shitty service. My bet is they will sowly begin to downgrade the service into some gamedemo stuff where you will need a higher tier of gamepass for more content of each game or you will still have to buy most games (at a reduced price like PS-Plus) to have full access. Like EPIC they are trying hard to lure in people onto their platform.

Good grief Toad, that sounds absolutely terrible and I even pray it never happens....for Xbox as a brand, as a console division, to die. Very rational analysis though....I just hope that never happens. That would some terribly sad shit as I want Sony to have serious competition or at least the potential to have competition.

Anyone here (as a speculative exercise) believe that either MS needs to reshuffle the deck of personnel or that perhaps Spence just needs to change up the strategy, etc?

I would make another Gold Membership Spree if xbox disappears. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: It only means that Nintendo will step up and put a true competitor with healthy environment to compete directly with Sony.

Are you serious right now? That was the most amazing thing out of the whole show case that all those games will come to Game Pass. It's the best service for gamers out there, huge value for not a lot of money.

The dealer pod cast last night was giving it eights and nines, but you would not of know it from there voices, sounded more like a funeral than anything else.
Imagine talking for months about the magic of scalability and how the next gen version of current gen games will run and look so much better on the world's most powerful console only to watch one of those games barely looking any different from their predecessor, that must have been a huge blow for them.

I really think this time round is the last roll of the dice MS will make on custom hardware.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. I don’t think we end up with just Sony for console hardware.

I can imagine Samsung or LG stepping in - maybe even partnering with MS for software at first.

The consumer electronics space has a much better “fit” to companies like that than MS.

You didn’t read the thing about crossfire X then?

How many other games will have small print ...?

Yeah I am serious. Because I don't believe they can really be making enough money to compensate the costs that way.
They have to make more money out of that service SOMEHOW. Be it by Microtransactions, Episdoes, Different Tiers of that service with higher prices or something alike.
So my bet is they will always offer SOME games for free but of other games they will only provide demos/part of the game for free.

How much convoluted mis-messaging and confusion can a single company produce??
What confusion is there?
You can't read?
There is no misinterpretation possible with that fineprint

Multiplayer is F2P and needs Gold
Campaign is not in Game Pass, so you need to buy.

Just like Fortnite.
And it's also in line with the overall message. You can play every game shown via Game Pass OR free to play.
But we know people on the Internet are not the smartest to figure stuff like that out.

I did. It's 1 game. Otherwise the other games would also have that small print, do they? No they don't. Were you only able to play RDR2 MP but not SP? Or GTA5? Nope. This is 1 game, from 1 publisher that prefers it like this.

It already has +10 million active subscribers, you are aware that they need to pay for it, right?

Except for Nintendo not wanting to compete. They become great at avoiding direct competition and looking at ways of carving out new markets for themselves.
This console generation proved that console gaming is still very viable business. Not having the strong competition would certainly be a massive detriment to its long term viability.

The damage control is in full effect. Love how these peeps are literally only interested in selling you something.

Yes Gamepass, bla bla bla. As was always the case, people will talk about the games. Games coming out on gamepass can’t mean they now get a pass just because it’s 15$ a month. Talk about the games, not the service.

I think Sony will thrive even more without competition, their mentality is not the same as MS. They are making their money back from those quality games, it always makes it so hard to appreciate non-PS-exclusive games the more we experience the major gap between Sony and other studios. Lately Ghost of Tsushima, a masterpiece that just followed another one a month ago, a wonderful departure from PS4 to PS5.

The examples using years old games are irrelevant. It’s new stuff we are interested in now.

This one game shows that MS weren’t quite honest with their opening comment and together with the other shadiness makes it easy to question.

What is a console launch exclusive? What does MS mean when they say a game is coming to gamepass? (Evidently that doesn’t mean it’s the full game).

What is the policy for supporting multiple Xbox gens, and what exactly is the xsex capable of?

So yeah - trust is low - until I see the specifics I assume the worst because that is what MS has sowed with its marketing and messaging (and that’s across many gens - not just this particular show).

You get what you pay for.

The impression is increasing more and more with me that Microsoft only wants to earn money, while Sony wants to do that too, but is willing to offer something in return, namely high-quality games and no online MMO anything, just to earn Cash with meaningless ingame items.

Microsoft never said that Game Pass would only include full games. These are deals that are being made with publishers. If they make a deal where they let you play MP with the hope that you'll buy the full game to play SP, well then that's the deal. Just because this happens once, doesn't mean this happens for every game. There are +100 games on it that doesn't have this. So indeed, less than 1% of the games on Game Pass aren't the full game, in the future, because at the moment it is.

You have no idea what a console launch exclusive is? They've been using that terminology since Tomb Raider. A game that at launch will be available for Xbox only (maybe PC since that's also Microsoft). Like No Man's Sky for PS4.

What is XSX capable of? What does that have to do with Game Pass? Also just because Halo didn't blow people away doesn't mean it's a shit system. Enough developers have said how powerful XSX is, do you think this is suddenly not true anymore?

I would love some Sony MP, I'm more than sure they will deliver quality, looking closely at Destruction Allstars for starters.

In PlayStation there is no charge at all to play free to play online games this gen.

And the fact that crossfire SP is not playable for free or on gamepass is exactly the point.

If coming to gamepass can just mean free to play stuff then why buy gamepass at all? It’s already free.

And any of those third party games may fulfil that criteria but a significant part of the game is purchased at full price.

What you’re describing isn’t a gamepass it’s a demo pass and is putting a price on stuff that is already free.

Yeah, if yesterday's showcase proved anything, it's that power, speed, money means jack shit if you don't have the talent to back it up.

But this could also be piss poor management, like the Lair fiasco back in the ps3 early era.

It will be interesting to read what the fuck happened with halo infinite a few years from now.

I have no problem with online games or MMOs, but with converting large franchises for farming money to such formats. Fable is no longer a real Fable, Halo is no longer a real Halo and that unfortunately makes sense when you consider that Microsoft wants to sell a service. Quality games only mess up the financial balance sheet.

Otherwise: I want a new MAG!!!

I totally agree - gamepass should really be renamed demopass given the lack of full $60 games on offer.

And it seems MS will continue to charge for live even for free to play games - I thought their new pro consumer viewpoint would’ve got them to drop that.

As for console launch exclusive - your example is TR. That exclusivity lasted years not just for launch - it was called a console exclusive not a console launch exclusive.

To me, console launch exclusivity is measured in months, not years - “launch window”. But again, it’s up to MS to clarify that term. If a significant chunk of their games are just locked down for 3 months, they’re not really exclusive by any normal definition of the term.

As for Xsex - I didn’t say it was good or bad. No one knows because we didnt see one pixel captured from an Xsex in that showcase.

Fine you don’t care about that perhaps. For me, with what is apparently 4 months from release it seems .... odd ... that they can’t get anything from it to show any one.

I didn’t agree before about the UE5 demo not being possible on Xsex. Now I’m beginning to reconsider on the strength of what we saw yesterday.

The shilling is so incredibly see through. She’s obviously being paid, so I don’t exactly blame her, but...

Stopped reading when you said demo pass. You are trolling, goodbye.

When a company tries to sell me a subscription service but then significant parts of the included products are actually not included, they’re trolling all of us.

Netflix don’t only show a portion of the movie so people go buy the rest on Blu-ray. Netflix charge a high enough subscription they can afford to put the full content there and if they can’t afford it, the content isn’t offered.

MS should do the same - not use small print and marketing to hide what is really on offer. That lack of trust in MS marketing is what is creating the friction over this showcase and gamepass as a selling point.

I don't know, tried to watch John Wick on Netflix yesterday and there's only 2nd part... So in the same way, MS cannot force every 3rd party dev to publish everything on GP, especially if it's nowhere near as established service. I personally see GP as TV - here are the shows being aired today, after 10min. or so you can already tell whether you like the movie or not, if not you move onto another one, if that one suck too then you keep searching, and the same way GP will allow you to try all the available games until you find something that meets your taste, which is such a nice feature to have in an era where demos are completely dead and you have to buy the games blindly and be on the mercy of marketing slogans and paid journos.

I think this could be a surprise hit!

The physics in this game is insane that makes me want a racing mode for it, here are the new screenshots released lately. First cleanse your eyes from what you saw yesterday:

Now look at the twisted chassis here:

Look at the extremely detailed car parts inside that wrecked one

The driver flying out after his car got wrecked, those will be some laughable moments in the game!

They didn't say "yeah it's a goofy car game, let's not pay too much attention to car mechanics and parts" like most devs would do, and that's thanks to the PS5 Power.

First of all, and I've said this a couple of times now already, this is 1 game. Just 1.

Secondly, to go further with your Netflix analogy. How would you call it if Netflix only gets the first season of a series and not the rest? Or in some cases even only a couple of episodes with others releasing months later?
