Well, damn! That is impressive!!

In a new interview published on the latest Official PlayStation Magazine (August 2020, issue 177), Micah Jones (one of the four brothers who founded TeamKill Media) explained some of the exclusive features available thanks to the new DualSense controller.

Will games that use less than 50 GB still be released on 100 GB discs? I believe there will be a lot of indies that do not need so much space even considering 4K textures etc.
Yeah I assume, idk exactly. I only bought digital PS4 games. But I’m pretty sure all PS4 games ship on the same size discs, despite some games being much smaller. Like Rocket League and Sekiro are less than 20 GB each, but I assume they use 50 GB Blu-rays. Maybe some devs will just only publish their games digitally to save money... but that could hurt sales.

I assume it’s the publisher who pays to print discs, but I think Sony controls what type of disc can be printed and labeled as a PS5 game disc since it’s their system.

Raytracing is possible on any hardware because it's just another (very complex and compute-heavy) way of generating graphics. Here's an example of RT done on PS2. I've seen even slower platforms doing it (or faking it). Of course this has no practical application, rather a proof of concept that it can be done. And that's exactly what we do at demoscene (Assembly is a demoscene meeting).

Ahhhhhh I was searching for that video, in response to the PS3 RT demo yesterday. But I couldnt find it (because I stupidly thought the demo was on PS1...). Nice find!

I think I'm fucked bois. Started developing COVD symptoms.

If i don't survive to see the war in November i'll see you bastards in hell

If you're serious, sorry to hear that. But, unless you have other health problems and/or are over 60, you should be ok. Those are the odds at any rate, so if you do get diagnosed with Covid-19, get rest, fluids and KICK IT'S ASS! ;)

Haha yeah. I've seen a lot of patronizing shit, but that was impressive on a whole new level. Anyone reading this thread knows that there's very little actual technical discussion and a lot of FUD, guesswork, console warring and meme'ing going on..

You know this is a 'speculation' thread, right? There's been plenty of technical discussion. Even with the recent MS showcase, there's really been very little "MS sucks!" types of things and more technical 'guessing' to use your words, about what was shown and why it was shown the way it was. Also been a lot of discussion about the memory bandwidth of both new machines...that's just some recent stuff. People commenting on some negative aspect of our favorite toys does not automatically constitute FUD or console warring.

Next gen disks are 100 GB, last gen disks are 50 GB.

Is the XSX game gimped and same size as Xbox one version or will it have higher quality assets ?

Unless there is something we dont know ?

Doesn't seem like it would need to be that complicated. The dual gen disks will obviously be 50GB, with them either just putting the Xbone version on there (with the XSX version downloaded during the install process) or they'll use multiple disks (these things are cheap and it only applies during the install process to begin with). I don't see how it's an issue either way.

Neither do I think it will be a problem, most games have huge patches anyway on both consoles - whats new lol

I was just having fun replying to the poster that thought different disks for ps4 and ps5 was in some way a negative when actually it is logical.

STATE OF PLAY AUGUST 6TH LEAK

👀👀👀

You know...I can't believe I'm saying this, but I sure would like the Metal Gear Solid collection. My first MGS was the PS3 "Guns of the Patriots" (I forget if that was MGS 3 or 4) but I sure liked it. Playing a remastered version of that would be cool. Plus you get the camera "easter egg" with all the bosses! :) Anyway, I might actually go play the others to see what I missed since people talk so much about those games.

This thread is an embarrassment.

Just because it's a little negative right now in light of the recent showcase, doesn't mean it's an embarrassment. Instead of lurking, you could always try contributing and commenting on some technical subject or speculation. Plenty we still don't know about these boxes. Suggest maybe taking a look at how @X-Fighter has stuck around and still contributes. Most of us here didn't just start lurking with the GitHub speculation was rampant or any number of other things that have come up.

So those disks won't work on the original Xbox One? This is getting confusing....

Whatever disks Microsoft uses on the XSX have to work on the original XB1.

Only on the cross gen releases. Regardless of what MS first party is doing, third parties will move on to next-gen only and will use the 100GB disks if they need them.

apparently ps5 news today🤔

Yes, the actual respective console version of the game gets downloaded. Again, it's quite practical as one doesn't need to look for matching console names in the box.
What would happen if I bought a game without Smart Delivery? Would I be stuck playing the BC version? Does MS support different boxes for games that don't offer free upgrades? I can only see this one box thing working with Smart Delivery games.

I swear man there are people who make it sound like Game Pass trumps Sony's offering which is just not true. The one thing Microsoft is doing better than PS is talk about Game Pass and keep marketing it in every turn. Meanwhile Sony PR folks are like should we even include PS Now in any of our twitter discussions or marketing events?

Sony wont talk up PSNOW. Definitely not after this Gamepass foolishness .These media press youtube people are straight up goofy. Saying shit like I don't have to pay for games on xbox. WTF!! How you suppose to get sequel & grow gaming when you are telling people to not buy games. Some dumb goofy shit. PS are just going to promote the same & let it grow naturally. Until it's compelling & worth anything. Its a supplementary service. Its like ordering extra chips or rice/salad at a meal.

As off right now the service as a whole is meh. The netflix of gaming isn't the way. Maybe more the deezer/spotify as that holds music library from now and back to my parents era. Selling games the traditional & digital works. There is no need to push PSNOW/Gamepass. IMO longterm I see this service more for indie devs & as a retro gaming service. I would love to go back & play Jackie chan Stuntmaster, Driver, The Get Away , Wu Tang Taste the pain , Marvel vs Capcom ,Street Fighter Alpha's, Street fighter EX 2, Rival schools, Capcom vs SNK 2. What would really get me invested in PSNOW is a massive library of games from PS1,2,3 & my own library from PS4.And a NEW PSP. PSNOW offers those two things. Im sold. The current promo method is best way to do it. Games still sell.

Basically, if the technique isn't up to scratch, for example as in infinite halo on Series X, it's the developers' fault and the most important thing is that the players consume their video games like movies, i.e. without
thinking about the whole technical side and that they don't pay attention to the short loading times but rather to the experience and the history/universe of the game.

A year they've been harping on: 12 tflops, true rdna 2, most powerful console evaaa... to say now that we shouldn't focus on.

Brah. At least they are starting telling the truth. Bit by bit we will see what the box really is capable off. It is funny because this is sounding spooky for the xbox guys. But the lying will cause more damage long term.So keep telling the truth xbox execs. At some point you will understand to market more like Nintendo and you will flourish then. Drop the console War PR. Keeping telling the truth.

I am curious what truth is he telling in that article? While I agree that the console war talk is really not a good way to go, and the games should and will do the talking, what else is he saying that I'm missing?

You provided no substance worth discussing in your reply, I've given you examples as you asked and showed you obvious flaws you're intentionally ignoring. You're not worth my time so don't quote me if you're not interested in a constructive discussion.
So since I don't agree with you it's not substance. Ok then

I have no narrative sorry for you. I'm factual.
See how they treat the Shwo of PS5 going deeply on what they can find of negative for PS5 show (GT 7 related) and see how they treat the MS show in particularly HALO which is worst than previous game on less powerful console (360). See the NX gamer and King trash videos that show many lack in many technical compartment of the game and ask you why Dictator only axe his analyze. He has a narrative (with his gang on discord trying downplaying PS5 spreading FUD about it).
They are both 15 minute videos focusing on a few negatives. Wtf are you talking about. Did he talk faster in the gt7 video? He uses similar language in both and he isn't overly negative in either. You just want him to shit on everything Xbox and since he doesn't you can't jerk it to his videos. Get a new kink.

So, on the one hand Sony are clearly defining which version you need to buy depending on the console you own, on the other Microsoft are trying to make it easy to just pick up one box and go. Microsoft’s approach is certainly cheaper production wise... but surely the actual game is going to have to be completely downloaded, given that it’ll be vastly different in size depending on which console you’re buying?
As a guy who only buys physical copies of games, I care a lot about the package. Call it silly, but when I move on to the PS5, I want a new, nice clean game case design without any mention of PS4. I think it's great to separate the two, makes it look cleaner and just.. Nicer. A better package.
