The issue is that Sony WILL lose customers over this. How would they not? Charging 60 bucks just to play online, while MS makes it free? All of social media, youtube etc complaining about how anti consumer Sony is. And it sure as hell wouldn't continue years down the road. So i totally disagree with you, as usual

This is all hypothetical to be clear. This is all assuming MS actually does it. And i'm not saying they will. And i also find it strange MS would throw huge amounts of money away.
The problem for Xbox IMO is that they aren't coming from the 'holier than thou' position, especially as they were part of those that enabled Sega (the first proper console) to charge online fees - as it was all Windows software on Dreamcast - and then proceeded to keep that arrangement when they took Sega's place. Xbox was anti-poor gamer, and pro-exclusion from the outset IMO, hence why it is called gold - probably to mimic the higher tier notion of the credit cards. And AFAIK Playstation doesn't have a Ps+ requirement for free-to-play games like fornite, anyway.

So as someone that doesn't pay for gold/PS+ on the main consoles, and hasn't paid for either - and hates that I've been guilted into paying Nintendo's sub for online play with brother and nephew - I would need xbox to go sub free for an entire generation or more to believe they've changed their ways - that brought this all about - and I think many others would feel the same.

man I would really need a YouTube video zooming in and focusing on specific aspects to ever see the difference between cut scene and game play in a game like God of war I certainly couldn't tell the difference while I was playing it

Never played a silent hill before but imagine that with the new tempest engine.

That sounds like a match in heaven.

I think it would be a pretty good system seller for Sony. And it’s an IP they’ve been heavily associated with over the years. Can entirely see a deal being struck with Konami to develop a game for the Ps5, hopefully with some of Team Silent back. You never know.

Rumor is that Sony of Japan is working on the project.

Yeah, I tried not to read too much into that as the info was pretty shaky... but would be fantastic if true!

You being this smart and educated is a side effect of living near the University of Oxford. :messenger_winking_tongue: Wonderful information, as always.

Seriously, Stop, Phil spencer could take a dump on your head and you would still praise him.

Come on dude, enough now.
I'm not praising anyone, I'm a part of the Halo community, it's just a fact, we laugh about it but not with "hate towards Microsoft".
Most people from the Halo community don't even care about Microsoft tbh.

I don't find it relevant weather MS was first to start charging for playing online. I mean, that was back in 2005? They were significantly ahead of sony at that time when it came to Xbox Live and it's features.

MS has a reputation for being consumer friendly now. As i've stated above, you better believe the backlash will be severe within the industry, social media, youtube etc.

As you said, you're not big on playing online to begin with, so it's not a big issue for you, where as people who play COD, GTA, RDR2,BF, GR etc, this will be a big factor for many.

Some people do not like supporting a brand if they feel like they're getting ripped off when the competition is offering the same service for free. People have been complaining about paying to play online for years.

interesting but what’s it got to do with next generation consoles. Or gaming at all for that matter?

Why wouldn't they just drop XBL? They've been pushing "the most consumer friendly console in the world" narrative for a while now. It's all to get more people on their platforms and sell Game Pass. Eventually what they try to do is get people to buy into the Xbox ecosystem, and NOT invest into Sony's ecosystem. Sony will probably sell +120 PS4 consoles. Microsoft made the calculation that if they can get a part of that market it will be worth it to drop XBL fees knowing their attach rate to Game Pass. Combined with PC Game Pass of course.

They are playing the long game. They know they won't win console selling wars this generation. They just want to sell as many subscription as possible in the next 10 years.
So on one hand I completely agree that getting rid of Xbox gold seems in line with what they've been doing and with how they want to market themselves.

But on the other hand, Gamepass is straight up not profitable right now. And I'm not going to pretend I know exactly how long it will be until it will be, but historically with other streaming services, it takes awhile. I just find it hard to believe that such a high gross profit % revenue stream would be abandoned before the other service (game pass) is producing profits.

But Jeff seems pretty convinced and I believe they are going to drop it. I guess I'm just struggling to see how this strategy is going to be yielding actual high profits to the company rather than just revenue. Maybe Microsoft just doesn't care.

I think the whole graphics issue with Horizon Forbidden West can be temporarily resolved with PROBABILITY.

If Guerrilla Games can make a game look this good on current, stoneage hardware...

...it is VERY PROBABLE they can make a game look THIS good on hardware so powerful it dwarfs the capabilities of PS4.

Based on GG's track record, people convinced this is far from launch quality will crap their pants when time is due.

This is old news, but i found it interesting, didn't knew about it so i'll share in case somebody didn't about it as well, so PS5 will consume 16 times less power than PS4 in rest mode, so 0,5 watts (PS4 is 8,5 watts), pretty cool thing.

Well, if you ignore the rapid teleportation, the overall graphics presentation looks current gen. I don't see anything in those vids that indicate to me "advanced rendering". I took a peek at FS2020's graphics settings and immediately clapped when I saw "texture synthesis". That's a technique only done in the film industry. It's a way of using procedural texturing and then capturing that texture across a large surface so you can filter it. Procedural texture generation has been avoided in games so far because of it's expense. On top of that, it's a nightmare to filter because you have to do it analytically. That one feature right there is more advanced than anything we've seen to date in the realtime sector outside of ray-tracing.

Regarding Ratchet, everything on PS5 is a step up from PS4 version. Same can be applied for new Spidey

The base in the sea with snow and water moving in Killzone 3 I still refuse to believe being rendered by my PS3 despite having played the game 3 times. Just that "nah bruh" moment.

Evident for sure shown like this. I wouldn't say it was worlds different enough to think the first shot wasn't representative of what to expect in game, other than optimization downgrades. Same with something like GoT. That's why I still think what we're seeing in HFW in engine trailer running on PS5 hardware is still much representative of what we could expect for the most part.

I see some of these same things in the hair in the underwater scuba scene, and again, still think it would be pretty representative by comparison of what to expect on console.
The two shots cannot be compared due to very different lighting settings and even then there is no clear difference. He also zoomed too much on the gameplay image to make it ugly.

So much can be done with knowhow and tricks when it comes to graphical fidelity.
It boils down to developer skill and god knows there's plenty of that on the Sony 1st party side.
