Maximum achievement right there:

It shouldnt be seen as something so special, come on Man...

GoT and TlouPart2 with a 4k/60fps patch with some other effects on are doing 1000x more than many of these games Just because "muh 120fps".

The whole package is what really matters. I heard that devs behing the Ue5 demo was aiming to push at 60fps. That would be an amazing achievement If It happens.
Downgrade of Tsushima and TlouPart2 are "very low class" games according to your own standards though.

Let me guess....

"120 fps is pointless. Waste of resources on SeX"

PD is happy to announce Gran Turismo 7 will have a 120 fps mode

"Yup. 120 fps kicks ass! Told ya"

It'd be pretty big for a racing game, any genre where input lag is a huge factor definitely can benefit from it. This is part of why most Sony titles can get away with not targeting it, because their games are less about fluid twitch mechanics and more about immersion in open worlds and narrative-driven gameplay. I'd also say they've been doing a lot of stuff where it's more about how you prepare for a fight than how well you fight it (HZD, Days Gone, TLOU II, maybe others I'm not thinking of). For me that level of strategic depth adds something to a gameplay experience that can make up for losing the more twitch/fluidity type gameplay. I'm hoping a PS5 means games can handle both but sometimes the work arounds for problems create more interesting products, it makes me think of how before CGI a lot of horror movies tried to hide the big bad as much as possible and it actually made it scarier often. Similarly I think the deliberate, more strategic combat of some of their games is due to things like framerate/input lag limitations. That said I think I'm beyond continuing to accept 30FPS from most games because of how spoiled PC gaming has made me.

Has Microsoft confirmed that this 120 FPS mode is with 4k or a lower res? Because I never claimed 4k 120 FPS is modern gaming. That’s a very limited market And that’s only after the new 3000 series cards are out.. I am assuming this 120 fps mode is with 1080p.

That's most likely the case with these new consoles as well. However, the cost difference !=.

We went from 30 to 120 real quick. Not actually, took 7 years, god damn this gen lasted way too long.

Why not just go for 4K 60, now they are targeting 120 and 1440? I don’t get this obsession with frames higher than the eye can see, but I haven’t had the pleasure so I’ll just nod and agree!

If you can see frames, there's a problem. The more frames there are, the more natural it looks, and that's before you take into account reaction times.

I'm a resolution guy, personally. I can see why people are excited though.

120fps is a game changer. But the vast majority of people will not take advantage of the framerates been offered because their screens don't support it.

People keep talking about how most people can't take advantage of 120 frames per second but from my understanding it doesn't necessarily cost much to own a display the outputs at a 120 hz refresh rate. I got one on a deal that was under 300.

They only made this article because Xbox had more. Most of them Very low class games and Halo, You know... Craig.

120fps sounds completely unecessary to me. Dirt should push for better graphics at locked 60fps.

It probably is unnecessary for you. PS fans tend to play mostly single player cinematic games with not that much gameplay, therefore performance isn't as important as graphics.

PC and Xbox fans tend to be more interested in games with great gameplay and multiplayer games, therefore performance is more important than graphics.

My LG TV turned out to be 120fps at 1080p, I haven't tried it yet but I wonder if it makes as much of a diference if you are using a gamepad compared to if your were using K&M.

I'm much more sensible to FPS when using K&M.
As the owner of the LG B7, it makes 120 fps difference. Especially as someone who has played Gears 5 for days, I can confirm this.
I'm use gamepad.

I'm not saying it doesn't make a diference, I didn't even try it. I was wondering if it makes as much of a diference as when using a M&K.

It's also not a matter of only making a diference, it's a matter of being worth the effort to render twice as many frames and the compromises that come with it.

Going beyond 60fps on consoles seems like overkill for a AAA game that should be trying to get as much as possible out of the hardware. I get indie and lower budget games going for 120fps since they don't even have the resources to add all the details that 30fps or 60fps would allow.

Vast majority of '120 hz' tvs are Black frame insertion tvs that don't really give you 120 frames. Only true 120 hz tvs can give fps benefits.

So of the games there what is actually also on PS5? Don't say the dolpin one as we know if dirt 5 can hit 120fps then that 2d game could, in reality.

MS pushing options for 120fps is great but hardly worth comparison against some exclusive to them is it. This seems a pretty sad effort by DF.

I'm sure the Digital Foundry games comparison list of games actually running on real hardware will follow this article.... 😃

If the system detects a TV with variable refresh it should let you unlock the frame rate on every title that can hit a minimum of 40hz. Mine and I think most TVs that have it should support 40 - 120.

Article is a bit premature, most games have not given their frame rates and resolutions YET.

There will be 100s of games that are 120 hz on ps5 and xsx, there are allot of 2D indie games / some racing games.

How did Tetris not make the list :messenger_beaming:

It is only news worthy now before game makers publish the game details.

I see people who haven't yet learned their lesson
Yes, HDMI 2.1 is required for 4K/120 but no game will ever achieve that on these consoles

For 1080p/120 HDMI 2.0 is more than enough. I think even HDMI 1.4 could be enough for 1080p/120

That can easily be achieved by taking a 4K 60fps PS4 Pro \ Xbox One X game like the NBA 2K games & letting them run at 120fps.

its only unnecessary if you don't have the power to achieve that performance level

Wich the Series X also dont, unless You are talking about Indie game, 2d games or game that needed to suffer strong restrictions in the First place.

Im not trying to bash Xbox, Im Just being realistic here. Look at the games graphics. Look at Gears 5, It runs 60fps on Xbox one wich is weaker than base PS4 for Gods sake, tons of restrictions to achieve that. Of course the nextgen version Will double the fps Just as PS4 did for TLOUS and PS5 Will do in many titles released on PS4.

NEXTGEN consoles have Power to Double the fps count, in the exact same proportion. It happens that Gears 5 was extremely restricted on the technical level to make It run at 60fps on a 1.3tf hardware, so thats why You got 120fps on Series X but the increase follows.the same proportion as every other old gen title running on the New hardware.

The rest is games with low budget with low ambition, some of them is even laughable like the 2d with fishes.

So I ask You: whats the merit? Whats so impressive about It?

I Will refrain from making comments about Halo multiplayer tho. That sounds indeed Very Nice, but Craig didnt give us a good impression tho

120FPS on a console is insane and I cannot wait to try it (even though I will need to downscale to either 1440p or 1080p to experience it lol) and while I doubt it will often be used, I still find it pretty cool especially as more TVs support 4k120
