PlayStation 5 [OT] Taking Over The World One SSD At A Time

I'm not even a fan of the franchise or anything, but it's clear to me they're definitely hiding something, ever since those weird tweets and especially that strange wording, it's a dead giveaway.

I think silent hill would fit the criteria for a “big third party” exclusive game .... it might even be the “prior big PS game franchise reboot”.

This might be 1 game generating multiple rumours...

Their separate games, as HeisenbergFX4 has alluded to.

I like exclusives like Bloodborne. Games that simply wouldnt be possible without Sony's funding. FF7 and FF16 though? I dont know. Square Enix would make those games regardless and make a bajillion dollars from them.

It seems Sony has let Ueda slip away which sucks. I really hope it's an "extra" game we are getting from either Platinum games, Kojipro (MGS), Capcom or From Software. Something Sony fully funded and said hey, we want this as a playstation IP from your talented studio. here is a blank check.

I too prefer them using their money to fund stuff which isn't going to be made, but at the end of day, buying exclusivity is a lot easier than building one. Timed exclusives are a necessary evil because games just take so much time to be made.

Sony will always have exclusives from 3rd party, BloodBorne, Until Dawn, Order 1886, Detroit, Death Stranding. I'm missing some names but there will be a fair share of Sony funded exclusives from 3rd party. They lost Ueda, but his games will still come to their platform. It's time for perhaps some new projects from different studios. Let's see what it is. I think BloodBorne II will be made this gen, Sony should be keen but maybe they don't want to meddle with that IP without Miyazaki involvement who is a very busy man. Perhaps, after Elden Ring? I doubt Kojima is touching Metal Gear ever again, his next project is a horror game. Let's see if Sony have somehow miraculously resurrected that Silent Hills from Konami.

Sony generally make the game which fans want, The Last Guardian would've been longed canned by any other publisher but they finished it. The interest in new BloodBorne and Silent Hills project has been high for number of years, so there's hope in them pulling some strings to make it happen next-gen.

Isnt that what i am saying though? I said Phil is having Jez do his dirty work.

I won't forget 'Jez' is the same guy who tweeted that total fanfiction comment on PS5's 'troubled' development and how devs hate working on it. The source was a troll leaving a comment on an Ars Technica article iirc! Jez added he'd 'heard similar things' to the made up nonsense!

So yeh this guy is working overtime and I dont trust anything he says.

I won't either and given the recent Halo showing and with no games running on SX hardware it was probably projection.

No, it wouldn't.

Silent Hill is similar to Spider-Man when it comes to who owns the IP and all the different parties involved, and Spider-Man is and has always been promoted as a first-party game.

Think about it in these terms:

It's may of 2014. The last "wave" of big releases for each of the consoles, PS4 and XOne, came just a little over two months ago in march with Second Son and Titanfall. The biggest upcoming release its Watch_Dogs (05.25.14), but the game its a PS4 timed exclusive for a year. That's a massive loss for the XOne if you consider that the next big AAA next-gen game, Destiny, won't launch until september.

Imagine that kind of situation happening next year when the Series X will be struggling heavily from the first-party side of things as the big guns are all 2022 titles.

Yeah, make sense. Sony need to secure more third-party for timed exclusives to give Xbox a hard time.

I think it makes a lot of sense right now for the 3rd parties to go exclusive without putting too much of a charge on Sony.

The thing again is gamepass. Consider the impact that makes to sales of games on gamepass platforms .... people are talking up and down about how gamepass saves money - but in only does that if you don’t also buy full price games. They’ll play game pass games and wait for stuff to come to that service.

If a 3rd party AAA developer wants to make $60 games on gamepass platforms, they have to compete with a whole load of cheap shovelware, XGS GaaS content and the one or two old, big budget games MS signs to the service.

It’s not a level playing field to compete for $$$. It’s like a major movie competing with the profusion of Netflix originals. To make that money back the movie needs a big theatrical release and the ticket sales at the box office.

On Sony platforms right now, it is a level playing field (at least Sony haven’t announced any changes to that yet). So I can see why third parties might feel they should go exclusive to PS for a period - they can drive full price sales and get the bump that comes with the exclusive tag, then release on Xbox down the road and perhaps jump onto gamepass to hoover up some cash from that.

Until we see how sales of HW and SW shake out post launch it’s difficult to be sure, but I think 3rd party devs who don’t want to be part of gamepass - that would be all the big producers - are probably wary of the competitive landscape on Xbox.

it’s worth bearing in mind that some major studios saw 2/3 of their sales on PS4. Makes it far easier for Sony to strike a bargain.

The PS3 sold twice as much as the Xbox One worldwide, so you'd expect that just about every publisher saw this ratio when PS4 and Xbox software sales are compared. But the difference is even bigger when it comes to Japanese games sales in the west. FF XV had a 4:1 ratio in the UK for instance. That's the reason why lowerd budget Japanese games skip an Xbox port, because it's just not worth their time to spend so many resources on a port that will sell a fraction of the PS4/PC/Switch version.

Exactly. Moneyhatting is much much cheaper for PlayStation compared to Xbox.

Not saying this is a good thing, I’m not a fan of monryhatting exclusivity, but it is the financial reality and makes good business sense for Sony to exploit it.

Hey BGs BGs heres a recap question. If i remember you weren't completely happy with the PS5 event right? I believe something along the lines of you thought they could show more of what PS5 can do, was it?

Now, was that in graphics aka photorealism? Was it in capability like ssd streaming like the Unreal engine 5 ending where she flies and its looks like a movie?

Can you recap what you think they should show or can show that would impress you in terms of technology and what PS5 can do? Is it the real graphics or something more?

Thanks.

I really dont see it as a price war or who goes first.

If console marker B is 50 bucks more, then they just bundle it with a free game.

So the pacakage price is totally fluid and both console makers can add and subtract the offering on a whim.
Quite honestly, they could market it higher then release it to retailers with the instruction of putting a £50 off price offer on it and they'll probably sell more because folk think they're getting a bargain. Sales is a funny old game.

Yup it makes no difference +/- 50 bucks for either console, people forget that offers and bundles have come with new consoles for 20 years.

I remember getting 3 games of choice with 360 and ps3 bundles......

Spiderman + MM bundle is a given but I would go with a Ratchet bundle personally so hopefully more than one option.

Sony can announce the price before MS.

It’s possible that they want to wait for Xbox to come out with a 499$ announcement and then cut their legs with the PS5 DE, but honestly it doesn’t matter. Just announce the 399$ PS5 DE and the show’s over. MS can price the XSX at 399$ and ship it in a domino’s box with free gamepass that it will be all the same.

I think Gamepass may create a situation very similar to what's happening on Japan: PlayStation 4 gets 'free' exclusives just because Xbox One install base barely exists. If this behavior of waiting for games in the service instead of buying them keeps growing, publishers may prefer to launch the game first on PlayStation and after they make enough profit, bring it to Gamepass for extra dough.
