PlayStation 5 [OT] Taking Over The World One SSD At A Time

I miss E3 too. Simpler times. You know exactly when and how and where you’re getting your news.

I don't miss E3. It's corny shit. Im happy that journalist are at consumer level. No secret access. There is less shilling & paid off journalist. This way of game reveal. Has exposed the smoke mirrors & theatrics. No Keanu Reeves showing up to give a show a pass. Just set the date ,show the games & move on.

Im mainly happy that this puts journalist at consumer level they cant spin bullshit stories. As we all have an even watch.

Honestly... I really like it. Specially in a dark environment playing with multiple people/controllers. But the Dualshocks4 lightbar was a bit too much. Its nice its more subtle now.

Im pretty sure Sonys first party studios share techniques/code.

Saw a tweet from @Brian_fleming thanking I think @Bendstudios for giving their code related to shadows and praising efficiency.

Tried finding the tweet, but of course I cant find it... I really need to start bookmarking stuff

Yes that makes sense. I think I understand much clearer the years of collaboration with Epic games now. PS have eliminated a lot of workload for the studios. PS Studios engines are years advance of the gaming industry.

Don’t miss it at all. It’s basically a nerd orgy for those who are there.

Not a fan of the press conference wars either, I much prefer the Apple style. Less space for clout chasing that way, and each brand is forced to stand on its own.

FACTS!!!! Brands have to stand on their own merit. There's no smoke & mirrors ,light shows ,no theatrics. No Keanu Reeves. Less CGI trailers, No journalist shilling. All the brands have to stand on their own products with some gameplay footage. And we can clearly see that Xbox on its own struggles without E3. Xbox cant get easy goodwill tagging itself to PS & the other game brands.

The people that want E3 are the journalist. And people that want to push this console war crap. The journalist are on the same level as us consumers. They cant spin & shill. We all see the same footage ,no secret viewings. And the console war lovers well if your side is loosing you cant play the me too card. We can see the clear distinction in brand directions. You don't get to piggybank off other peoples success/popularity.

Im all in for this new format. At least the companies control their own product.

E3 is a product of the bygone 80s-90s tradeshow era for hardware and software. It allowed for consumers and retailers to look at new and incoming products from manufacturers because we had no Internet infrastructure that we do now. When it's easier to show and stream and upload videos. Why would publishers and games makers want to keep going for something so archaic in a mostly digital industry?

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

To be fair, maybe that is the problem with society today

Specifically at the level of photorealistic graphics and physics (in general).

Obviously not in all the titles, but some internal sample of a specific first party (not a third like Epic), which has been a TechEsperabaDemo, for example in the style of The Sorcerer.

In gameplay I did not expect much because it is impossible to represent the DualSense in a video.

At the audio level, I expected much more. I understand that streaming is not the right way, but something better could still have been prepared. On the same Sony website (I think) there are already better demos or on the same Epic demo (but I was expecting a specific one from Sony and not only the part of GT that for me did not sound according to the quality and immersion expected.

But the problem is me. When you work on this you become too demanding and you see "lacks everything". When you know what can be done you demand the same result in everything, and that cannot be, logically. But hey, you should be reassured to know that TLOU2 works on a PS4 (not Pro) and that UE4 can do more photorealistic things or scenarios than DeathStranding. So you don't have to worry about what a PS5 and UE5 can do (together or separately, it doesn't matter).

I did expect some VR, but not because I knew it, it was a wish, but I understand that they don't want to mix things up, since PSVR2 is itself a system in itself.

With PSVR1 compatible with PS5 there is no need to speed up or overlap presentations, and if they do not present it before September, I don't think they will do it until next year. On the other hand, if they present it all this year, I think that the joint payment would be excessive. Above all, they pretend that people also change TVs.

Now, will a player be able to withstand a photorealistic environment in a psychological (or Silent Hill-style) horror game with the TempestEngine's 3D audio?

Cheers for the detailed answers and as for the last bit, id love to see it.

I mean in vr the horror look even more terrifying. When watching a TV its still a relatively small field of your view, you can look away, not always having amazing audio. I haven't tried too much vr but it obviously a lot more tricks the brain and obviously you feel like your there and all around you.

Horror in vr looks brutal, I have only watched people on YouTube but some funny ones, grown men reduced to screaming like girls.

It's inevitable to get this horny when PS5 looks so sleek and sexy and something that stands out as the centre of your home entertainment! Whereas the Xbox SX looks like a subwoofer that you'd stick in the corner of the room like a naughty child. Hidden away out of sight. :messenger_beaming:

Are you saying xbox looks like fat bastard from Austin Powers? :lollipop_bomb:

Have people noticed that Ghost of Tsushima has the same rain as TLOU2.The rain physics are manipulated different. But the wet clothes, the lightning & reflection on the wet surfaces. Look very similar. It's as if they are using the same rain system.
SP were not known for graphics tech, but they improved alot. If GoT become commercial success which it seems it well, the I expect Sony to give them higher budget for next game.

I too prefer them using their money to fund stuff which isn't going to be made, but at the end of day, buying exclusivity is a lot easier than building one. Timed exclusives are a necessary evil because games just take so much time to be made.

Sony will always have exclusives from 3rd party, BloodBorne, Until Dawn, Order 1886, Detroit, Death Stranding. I'm missing some names but there will be a fair share of Sony funded exclusives from 3rd party. They lost Ueda, but his games will still come to their platform. It's time for perhaps some new projects from different studios. Let's see what it is. I think BloodBorne II will be made this gen, Sony should be keen but maybe they don't want to meddle with that IP without Miyazaki involvement who is a very busy man. Perhaps, after Elden Ring? I doubt Kojima is touching Metal Gear ever again, his next project is a horror game. Let's see if Sony have somehow miraculously resurrected that Silent Hills from Konami.

Sony generally make the game which fans want, The Last Guardian would've been longed canned by any other publisher but they finished it. The interest in new BloodBorne and Silent Hills project has been high for number of years, so there's hope in them pulling some strings to make it happen next-gen.
Does Sony need to bring that Silent Hills project from Konami, Kojims can just develop the game under different name if they wanted. Silent Hills was a new IP anyway.

Good. Personally think Resistance is terrible. Would much rather have a next gen Heavenly Sword than a Resistance game.
Look... we can only have 1 red headed heroine at a time and Aloy has beaten Nariko 😂

Seriously though, a reboot of Heavenly Sword with Sony's new found expertise at 3rd person action games wouldn't be too shabby. It was just too early for its own good.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Silent Hills(P.T.) is Kojima Productions next project, honestly.

Yeah, he's posted some things that suggest it's a Death Stranding sequel or science fiction, but he's a master at the red herring.

Maybe they acquired the rights from Konami, akin to Shenmue for YsNet.

Not sure I agree with that.
Infamous Second Son and First Light are still 2 of the best looking PS4 games despite being released in the first 2 years of the machines life cycle, and still has probably the best particle and alpha effects of any PS4 game to this day.

That is libel of the high order!

Don't judge what you don't know!

Hmm don't know about that. Better check their resume. Second son still looks better than most games now. And it was first open world game this gen. You could traverse the city ,climb buildings. Definitely now the game still looks & plays great. Additionally Sucker Punch have always been lauded for particle effects.

I don't know about the graphics bit. They are up there.

That is an absolute truth... I bought Until Dawn: Rush of Blood when it came out. I'm there thinking, ok, Untill Dawn was cool... this is an on rails (literally) shooter, should be alright.

I played the first level with all the clows... ended the level with that last jump scare (those that played it know what I'm talking about) and that was it. Never fucking touched it again, nor will I ever. Fuck that! :messenger_grimmacing_
