One specific person assumes PS5 3rd Party Devs Are Finding Hardware Troublesome™, “Sony Too” May be Common

Dude doesn't know the price or the performance differences, from his own mouth.

And yet continues to spew fud at every moment.

What a fucktard

He has never changed over the years. Only thing he was good for was the "summer games fest" stuff being fed to him by PR teams.

What’s with Jeff Grubb lately?

He's always been this way. He was just more tame when being fed PR for the summer game announcements.

The well is dry, so back to the old.

Lots of insecurity being expressed in this thread. We went through this with current gen consoles. There were Lots of pre-launch rumors that PS4 was more powerful than Xbone and that was definitely the case. Oh well, looks like PS5 is gonna rely on feux 4K. I don't think it really matters when games start coming out. I sort of wish Sony would have used all that Moneyhatting money to beef up the GPU or the minimal storage that can't be expanded. I think Sony clearly has a greater mindshare and slightly more attractive launch software. The only thing that MS can do is undercut them on price. Native 4K isn't a giant selling point IMO.

Well people will believe what they want. When developers were saying that the PS5 was easier to develop for and better over all than XSX people here ate it up. Now some developers are saying they are having problems with PS5 development and people here are simply dismissing it or saying MS paid them off or posting Craig memes. One thing is clear; Sony's strategy of paying 3rd parties for timed exclusives will be a quick and easy way to beat back any XSX advantage. Think Destiny 1 and 2. Just pay them to not make the game on the XSX or make it so late it won't matter. It tough but since its Sony its more than fair. Call it the PlayStation Advantage. Should be an interesting generation.

Now we know why Sony is backing up the Brinks truck into lobbies of 3rd party developers.

They know they're going to lose the head to head comparisons and so need a differentiator to sell their console. So we're going to see exclusive characters, skins and weapons.

Both Sony and MS will be relying heavily on 3rd party games this holiday and Spiderman DLC and Bugsnax isn't enough to push units.

You have no idea what you're talking about

Bugsnax will be the most important video game release since pong

Quote me on that

Breaking news update:

~~~
On the most recent episode of the Basement Radio Arcade Podcast , noted insider Jeff Grubb hinted that devs are having trouble with the PS5’s variable frequency approach, and warned that gamers may be “disappointed” by some major third-party titles.
The technology that Sony's using for the PS5 is AMD SmartShift and...a lot of people are just assuming the PS5 is going to be right there with the Xbox Series X, and it may be, I don't know for sure, I'm not a developer, but this SmartShift tech is worrisome I think. What it does is it moves power between the CPU and the GPU and developers really haven't had to worry about that, especially on consoles, in the past.
This could, at launch at least, prove troublesome, to the point where you could start getting stories from Digital Foundry or whatever saying "Y'know, the PS5 version is actually kind of wack." That will get cleared up over time, developers will figure it out, Sony will figure it out and explain to developers "here's what to do," but my understanding is they're not doing that yet and that's the issue. So, you go into launch, and people [could be] disappointed, with, like, Madden, NBA 2K, Call of Duty. That could leave a bad taste in people's mouths.
...or sony could just downclock and disable smartshift.
The other thing that's funny ... is how short people's memories are. It's like this didn't exist:
We've seen a ton of fantastic material running directly on PS5 already. Does that video look "troublesome"?
Did sony show anything that looked like that?? no. Also it was a tech demo, not a game. There's a big difference.
Because the nature of certain news belies simple facts and reasoning.
1. Sony has a decades long history of producing solid to best in class gaming hardware and having a great library of software to go with it.
2. Sony has been extremely developer friendly with the PS4 and is looking to continue that trend with PS5
3. Microsoft for the past 7+ years has been promising on things it never delivers in terms of software.
So when we get news that PS5 is even easier to work with than PS4, when Sony straight up said that was a goal during development, we can believe it.
When we see the specs and we see that the systems are pretty close with some advantages on one side and some on the other, cool. Those are the facts.
So now when we get news that the PS5 is "troublesome" and it has difficult "running games" at both 1080 AND 4k when we have directly captured video evidence showing this is not true, it is incredibly easy to dismiss this news.
When we have a video from the best graphics company in the world, running directly on PS5, showing basically the most impressive real time graphics ever seen (outside of maybe that stormtrooper Nvidia raytracing demo that ran on like 4 high end cards), it's easy to dismiss the aforementioned "bad news".
Also it's not developers saying there are problems. It's just some dude reading the word "variable" and trying to spread some FUD.
Sony isn't about to get caught with its pants down on their hardware months from launch with a bunch of great stuff already shown. We've seen it. It looks great. Why people are trying to spread rumors that it's this "troublesome" piece of hardware is beyond me, other than trying to get some bad news out there to try and stymie the excitement for it because they are in the tank for someone else. It's straight up lying. so what else could be the motivation?
Did sony show anything that looked like that?? no. Also it was a tech demo, not a game. There's a big difference.
It was a real time playable game demo. Of course it's not a full game otherwise they would be selling it. There isn't a "big difference", only in the amount of content needed. Sony isn't selling a game that looks like that at launch because the engine won't be released until next year and after that you will see games on PS5 (and Xbox!) that look like this. Don't be obtuse.
So let me get this straight, everything Jeff has said up to this very moment has been 100% accurate truth and gospel, but now that he's indicated sources tell him they're having trouble with early games on PS5, he's an Xbox discord FUD spreader bought and paid for directly by Phil Spencer?
Have I about summed up the current situation?
Not really. He passed off speculation as "inside" info and then later retracted it, without qualification.
Wasn't this 1440p 30fps?
Still looks great either way.
