Thanks to you all with the over whelming response in my Xbox July Event video a few weeks back :- https://youtu.be/ByigSo3Esuc

You asked for me to dive into this in more detail, the causes, reasons and possible resolutions they COULD take. Well a glass of Rum on the rocks, 2-screens and a Mic later, I present you a 30 minute discussion of my thoughts and examples. Enjoy....hopefully!

If you enjoy the content on the channel and site, then please consider sharing it where possible and appropriate and if you can please support my work on Patreon:-https://www.patreon.com/user?u=2632056 Thanks For Watching.

After watching this video I'm no longer so sure if halo infinite can be fixed.

What does fixed mean?

DF said it can improve by for example improving the lightning. It would definitely look better with a better lightning.

Would it look next gen with better lightning? Obviously not and nobody claimed that, it's an Xbox One game ported to the series X, it will never be next gen.

Its a great video and I love NXGamer NXGamer content. This guy deserves more subs and views.

Puts out legit videos rivaling digital Foundry. Not scared to point out flaws if they are there.

You also don't see him having hissy fits on forums like some... LOL.

Got a podcast coming up with red gaming tech (who is definitely not @Dan_of_Rivia lol, no really, he's not....) and Matt Hargett. Should be a good listen.

You think they will talk about the Dusk Golem incident? I knew that Matt was a pretty big part of it.

Probably, they certainly should address it, its not breaking nda as its obvious the ps5 can do 4k etc as not only have we seen it multiple times with RT, we have had devs tell us about more games with announced res at 4k etc.

I hope we do get a bit of PS5 speak. Despite being under nda surely they can talk around stuff, get people excited, I mean matts being doing as such on twitter, well more posing questions, he spoke about cache scrubbers etc so maybe can at least touch on known things and give different angles/thoughts without going on a full breakdown.

As for NX he seems so Knowledgeable and red gaming tech is too so it should be a great listen.

Doubt it and rightly so.

That's just pure speculation. Nothing for them to chew on.

Well just hearing them talk about what other developers are saying wouldn't be s bad thing. It's something that has some people worried.

It's the smart thing to do.

I would love to see the new next gen Gears Of War entry -even when the female protagonist is so unlikable-. They did a wonderful job with the Gears Of Wars 5 graphics with such an underpowered console.

Surely they can make another one within 10 years. People will still want a true next gen Halo even after getting their hands on Infinite.

But is 343 up to the task?

That's the real question.

Yeah but there is no need to be worried. I really don't know how a rumour from a supposed insider overwrites what people have already seen.

It makes no sense, people had seen a whole event with games running at 4k30 and 4k60 with RT on pre alpha builds etc.

Where Sony fanboys ran off and made up the narrative that he 'admitted that made stuff up to redress the balance' when he never said that?

Yeah, sure bud. Internet really was too sided after badly Halo showcase. Let's make a fud about how devs had a problem with 4k on PS5 just to balance some things. Let's see, Dirt 5 is 4k 60, Ratchet is 4k, RE8 was showed as 4k/30. Also he fucked up with Silent Hill rumors, that's for sure. But this is not a thread for that

I heard him saying that things were to one sided so he dropped that in. Whether or not he was making it up I'm not sure.

What I do know was that he did a terrible job communicating the information in the 1st place. I literally thought multiplats would be broken on the PS5 based off what he initially said.

NXGamer NXGamer I'm a bit confused. In the beginning of the video you say that the lighting is "not it", referring to what's wrong with halo infinite. About 20 minutes into the video you discuss the flat lighting to an almost excessive degree. For like...between 5-10minutes straight. I get that you say it's "tech debt" but I come away from the video feeling like the lighting is, in fact, a huge part of the problem.

A lot of people will compare this to what Digital Foundry has said, and although you expand upon this greatly in other areas, I don't feel like people here will acknowledge that what DF has said is correct, although admittedly they don't go nearly as deep as you. Overall I think it's a great video and I hope 343 sees this and if they haven't already assessed these same things, that they take it to heart.

Well well well Digital Foundry...
Checkmate!

Haha, I loved it when he said every effect looks like its stuck on top like stickers 😄 it's funny but its absolutely true.

But yea he then he also says about its not just the light... and the tone of his voice there maybe its just me but i sensed a small amount of shots fired 🤣🤣🤣

If I was MS, I'd ask for a complete restart on Halo Infinite for XSX/PC only. Have various art teams create the same demo we saw but in different game engines: old Halo codebase, Slipspace, Frostbite, and UE5. Give them 3 months. Have the engine demos get shown "anonymously" so no one explicitly knows which demo is what engine base. Have the company, employees and decision makers vote on what looks best, then work from there.

Well it's the lighting, effects, materials, physics, animations etc etc and developing on a past gen system.

What Alex said at DF wasn't wrong, the lighting is flat but to spend most the video on just that when as this video points out there's a multitude of other issues just seems a little poor to me. It wasn't the satisfactory breakdown I and others expected from DF.

Edit, also Alex said it was about being in shadow when a lot of it was in direct light, even then it looked still like crap.

I have no idea about Slipspace (seriously, never heard), but UE5 isn't out yet, and good luck getting EA to license Frostbite anywhere outside EA.

But more importantly, the one thing this game does not need is an engine change. We would be talking about a delay of several years.

I think we have seen plenty of evidence of 343’s capabilities and the answer is NO.

If the Xbox One version was dropped entirely, if all the models and lighting were massively improved, and if currently static objects like the trees and grass were made dynamic, this would *still* be a boring Halo game.

The weapons lack decent material differences and lighting, yes, but as gamers, we can see that there is fuck all difference between firing one gun from another. Even the turret seems to have the same effect. Think all the way back to Quake, and Unreal Tournament, and how significantly different each weapon felt, and acted. We can all see there’s literally none of that here.

Back to gfx; Microsoft did not understand / appreciate that people want graphical wonderment as we move forward. Either that, or they were too scared to tell 343i this looks like a scratched dick. Now that they’re aware, I would wager that 343i’s current team are being assessed as unable to create that experience. I’m not sure what they can do from here. Push out just the free multiplayer game, and farm the single player out to a different studio that creates from the ground up on Unreal 5?

This is so much more than a mess. This is a debacle that will end 343i (probably for the best) and force Microsoft to heavily undercut Sony on everything, and bundle a year of free game pass just to be competitive.

Gamers win in the end, but Jesus, this couldn’t be much worse.

I wonder what the original Bungie guys think about this. Basically took over the franchise and drug it through the mud since the day they took over. Just had to trash it with shit multiplayer for years, awful campaigns, MCC disaster, now this.

Thank you for clarifying. So with this, I kind of get your logic that if they reduce the target fps on X1 to 30fps, then that would open them up to add more quality into the game, such as better lighting, texture, draw distance detail, etc. They would then have an easier time porting that work to the next gen version. Given your theories are correct, do you think they should realistically delay for more than a year? Also I've seen examples of games come out without certain features, only to add them in later and completely transform a game. I think the best example would be Warframe or Fortnite. So this is absolutely possible.

If you were developing Halo Infinite, what would you prioritize for release and what would you add as the game lives on?

Wait... i was just replying to you. I'm not nx gamer... 🤣 (for someone called jigsaah you didn't put together the pieces very well there 😁)

From things to add he said post processing and material quality would be 2 area whered he'd spend all time and effort mainly, not sure if that's what you meant....

I'm no developer but I know that Halo is pretty much a system seller for Xbox. If the sales end up poor for the system Microsoft may pull the trigger and release the game early to boost them.

What I'm trying to say is that how the system is selling may indicate when they release Halo Infinite.

They can’t just flick a switch and release it - and if the Series X is doing poorly, the LAST thing they’ll want to do is release a damagingly sub-par flagship title, which is precisely why it’s now delayed to a nebulous future date.

I’m surprised they haven’t separated out multiplayer from the main game. You can absolutely justify a cross platform multiplayer experience looking the way it does.

Oh God, the main game features co-op with the old console, that’s why all this is how it is.

Just saying that once it gets to acceptable levels they might release it if the sales are terrible for the system. If sales are fine they can always release it later on more polished.
