That controller is x4 Lane, while the Xsex slides say they’re using x2 Lane.

So there’s still some missing info.

The information on controller is correct, the principle software engineer at Phison specified the name of the controller, and it's purpose on his Linkedin page.

For XSX, they could be using literally any size NAND. They might have just bought 1 TB density chips. Or they could be using 15 or 16 x 512 Gb modules, or anything in between. We still haven’t seen what their SSD even looks like. They hid it from DF when they went hands on, which is always seemed ... odd. We still don’t even know if XSX has 1 TB in decimal or 1 TiB (1024 GiB).

You're confusing channel with lane, NAND channels go to the controller, while PCIe lanes go from controller to the SoC. Both SSD controllers are PCIe 4.0. MS are using 2 lanes (going by slide today) while Sony are using 4. MS maybe using 2/4 NAND channels (depending upon NAND, slide today didn't specify the number of channels being used, but it's safe to assume not above 4 due to controller), while we know for sure Sony is using 12 channels as per the Custom I/O graphic in Road to PS5 keynote.

To be fair they seem to have included some nice tech to increase performance of a lot of the new techniques that were not available on the 1X hardware (RT, ML, VRS, SFS, etc.). I'm not sure what more you were expecting.

They didn't talk about the virtualization features outside of that one bullet point. I still think it would be cool if XSX could run two 1S instances at once. I know the server blades can do 4, but it seems like the XSX wouldn't have the RAM to cover that.

Boss man. I don't expect anything from xbox. Xbox going to do ,what xbox does. I have never bought Xbox in my life. Its always skip for me. I spot BS from a mile away because of where & how I grew up. I never trusted MS in gaming, This seems more a question for yourself & others that want to count die sizes and all sorts.

We knew what was in XSX when they did a DF/Austin guy reveal.Anything after Mark Cerny GDC was marketing fluff to trick people into thinking it can do what PS5 can do. You guys fell for the PR waffle, Hot chips & mythical features, Velocity architecture, whatever other other crap they have. They got a slogan & marketing term for any old shit. In the end it's just a plane Jane with expected spec bumps.

This was over from the DF/Austin breakdown. XSX is just basic. Nothing else to it boss.

Actually I think Rich at DF just simply missed the SSD because it was on the opposite side of the SoC board and encased in a metal heatsink as you can in this picture from Austin Evans video (to the right of the black power connector):

It does look like a 30mm x 22mm SSD.

The Phison E19 is x4 Lane. (It is coincidentally also 4 channel - but I wasn’t referring to that.)

The slides from MS refer x2 Lane SSD.

So there’s a mismatch of spec ....
My bad, good point. Microsoft could still just be using that controller, connected to their SOC w/ 4 lanes of PCIe. Both the SSD and expansion card could just connect to the controller, 2 lanes each. So the controller would have 4 lanes total coming in from the drives and 4 lanes going out to the main chip.

Never saw that before. Thanks. Yeah looks like it’s the same as their expansion card, just in a heat sink and attached to the board.

that's funny because you dont seem antisocial.
as I wrote above, the "getting your ass served until rage quit" is the constant truth about halo arena for new players. I wrote also that this is a very common story for new players that end up unistalling the game :messenger_beaming:
even a regular halo player that hasn't played for a couple of months will probably get his ass served until getting back up to shape.
so, absolutely nothing personal, and I fully respect your single-player skills master cornholio :messenger_beaming::messenger_sunglasses:(y)

ps. maybe try at least halo 5 warzone? you dont have to speak to absolutely anyone there :]
I don't understand how telling someone "they quit because they were getting there ass handed to them" in response to them not liking the game, can be taken any other way other than disrespectful. Leave the guy/gal alone. No need for your non apologies and gaslighting by insinuating that the person is in the wrong for being insulted by your comment.

I don’t think you meant to quote that post, or something went wrong, not sure we’re talking about the same thing lol. I get that internal channels and external PCIe lanes are different.

You see everything as PS5 vs. Xbox, I'm (and I think most xbox fans are) looking at this as a comparison to the x1 and technology in general. There appear to be some nice additions to the hardware to handle specific tasks without reverting to software tricks. XSX is looking like a very nice upgrade. VA, from the information released, is an overall attempt to alleviate several of the io bottlenecks associated with IO operations on Xbox and Windows, the XSX will perform better than it would have without this implementation. It looks like Sony really killed it with IO, that's great for PS5 buyers.

Here is a clearer shot I took a few months ago:

Very cool. So it looks obvious that the internal SSD and the expansion card are the same. 30x22 NVMe, 1 TB @2.4 GB/s. Looks like they just took their internal drive and made it external, so for expansion it’s just basically sticking in a second copy of the internal drive. Hence why they perform the same. Even the heat sinks look almost identical. Seems safe to assume Seagate is making the internal SSD as well.

Despite a lower speed than PS5, it’s a simple straight forward solution. Just let people add a second drive that’s the same as the internal drive. Will be fascinating to see what they price it at. And how that compares to M.2 SSDs that can be used in PS5.

I really want that fucking PS5 tear down now, Soooony

You should be more subtle when casting bait.

What?? That's quite a bit more.

"A rising tide lift all boats"
-Mark Cerny

Sony has managed to achieve a remarkable feat with PS5 arch design

- Cheaper APU with 36CUs that trade blows with a bigger one (closest GPU performance gap between any consoles in history) CPUs are identical.

- Fantastic Tempest Engine for Audio
- Blazing fast SSD that wipes the floor with competition.
- I/O customizations that eliminate all system bottlenecks.

Marvelous engineering design, I was skeptical at first of their 36CU choice but after seeing Road to PS5 and seeing the minimal gap with SX. Im convinced Sony choices were way better for me.

I really hope we get a teardown similar to this one from Sony but seems like they’re already moved on to showing content running on PS5 instead of technical stuff.

I'll definitely wait on side by side comparisons before deciding which one of these I pick up first, I'm not a completely blind loyalist. Pricing factors in there as well.

I need to see what the XSS can do (or what it even is, LOL) also, if it seems capable, I might opt for that and a PS5.

Back to planning the heist.

it not really something that concerns you, is it now?
off you go to my ignore list.

I guess it was supposed to be a tease about how much I post on here coupled with me being mostly an Xbox guy? 🤷‍♂️

It's been a kind of a running joke since OsirisBlack OsirisBlack was razzing me quite a ways back about the fud I was putting out there (probably made worse by the fact that I like to hypothesize about things a lot). I don't even care, I think it's funny tbh. I've even played into it for a laugh on more than one occasion. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Anyone thinking the price leak was done because this was going to come out?

It's almost as if they are preparing us for the price announcement. Makes be worry about the PS5 btw.

They are either prepping everyone for a higher than expected price...or they are doing it just to throw Sony off a bit...seems like the whole pricing strategy this gen is a huge chess game between the two so no telling what the price is going to be...I am personally still sticking with the $499-549 for the PS5 and $399-$449 for the PS5 DE, I will seriously be floored if they go above $549 for the PS5 seeing on how much backlash they got with the PS3 when it came out.

Start saving ladies and gents, on basis of hot chips presentation so far, these consoles are going to be expensive. No wonder, neither Sony or MS want to be the first to break the bad news. Almost certain 1/2 SKUs will be above $500+

I just can't see Sony repeating the $599 USD price, or exceeding it. They still get laughed-at for it now, and today is such a more meme-filled society, they'd absolutely never live it down.

Plus, wasn't there talk of Sony having to keep the expected retail price down, and choosing components working in balance with each other that would allow for that, rather than doing all-out?

And yeah sorry didn't get to line up our schedules this past weekend to play with the Bird.

We have spoken just rumors he does seem to think we get "something" near the end of this month.

I havent followed up with him though still kind of unplugged for a bit checked in and saw Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem had returned and that was post worthy to me :)

Can't wait for Sony X900H HDMI 2.1 firmware update! :lollipop_fire: :messenger_clapping:

I believe that they would never price a console ever again at that price. That is their threshold for the foreseeable future.

It's all up for discussion in here as long as its civil. Me & DaGamez had a back & forward. Looked all civil to me. He dropped his response. I liked his post. We keep it moving.

Im an old school fella. Don't do beating around the bush. Especially in a forum. Don't have to bait anything or be subtle. Say what you are going to say and stand on it. If it's wrong info/data. Take the L & be better. Fuck all this baiting rubbish. Say what you want to say. What ever happens after that. Is what it is!!
