Control Ultimate Edition explained

I don't know what you think about this but in my opinion this is adding insult to injury!

"Every avenue we pursued, there was some form of blocker and those blockers meant that at least one group of players ended up being left out of the upgrade for various reasons. As of today, we can’t offer an upgrade to everyone, and leaving any one group out feels unfair. We understand that is not what you want to hear."

TYhey had such goodwill after a great game too

I own the Control base game and Season Pass. Is this not the same as Control Ultimate Edition?
The objective of Control Ultimate Edition was not to release new exclusive content on the next gen platforms, but to offer the full Control gameplay experience to new Control players in a single, easy-to-find product.

I see they are unfamiliar with the Sony store. Basically, as a goodwill gesture they could have upgraded everyone to the Ultimate Edition for free whent he consoles dropped. Then offer an in-game upgrade for £10-£15. That is a lot more palatable.

Basically, the game bombed so they are trying to squeeze every penny out of it.

This is a good showcase of why it is amazing to have a decent PC for multi platform games.

Unless the next gen versions/ultimate Edition of this game are going to have features that the current PC version doesn't have when you max everything out including RayTracing?

Some bullshit talk that doesn't really explain or justify anything. I've decided to skip buying the season pass even though I'd love to play the Alan Wake DLC. Maybe one day when Control UE will appear in PS+ or Game Pass.

They really go about it in a bizzarely stupid way. Why not just release Control for nextgen by itself with the DLCs also separate? Then you can upgrade everyone and sell the DLCs both separately and as part of a bundle.

Why is it so hard to offer an Upgrade for Ultimate Edition owners AND Season Pass owners?
Nobody gets left out as those who only own the base game become eligible when buying the season pass.

To me this stinks of greed

It's Remedy and I understand people like their games but they are greedy as fuck. They took the money from MS for Alan Wake and QB exclusivity and flopped, they took the money from Epic for Control and I don't think it's doing that great sales wise and now they're pulling this garbage. It's all greed and I wish it would bite them in the ass hard. They almost went bankrupt once. With shit like this, I can see it happening again. There is 0 technical reasons why you cannot upgrade the og game to Ultimate nor any reason why you would not be able to play the next-gen version. They're the same game. Bunch of assholes.

They haven't even said what the XSX/PS5 version is going to have. Will it match the PC or still be sub par due to the exclusion of some RT/DLSS features?

The easy solution is to upgrade anyone with the season pass to Ultimate. It is that simple.
The people that bought the vanilla version who dicked around for a few hours wouldn't care.
Control + Season Pass = Ultimate Edition.
In fact, on PS4, Control + Season Pass actually has more content (at least Digital Deluxe).
Everyone, don't buy a 505 game again, and if you must, wait at least a month or sale.

Yeah they probably think we're retarded.
Other companies have to problem doing it because the platforms actually have mechanisms to support it. There is literally NO reason. None.
They're just taking you for a fool.

lol fuck you Remedy and 505, you could have easily upgraded everyone with the base game + the season pass to the ultimate edition.

Except any of the following:

  • Upgrade ALL customers that bought the game + Season Pass / Deluxe version digitally to the Ultimate Edition w/ The next gen upgrade (Disc version may have to be left out here or offer a small price to upgrade)
  • Ask Xbox about Smart Delivery and ask them to help
  • Ask Sony about something similar to upgrade customers?
The only blocker/issue I see here if for the PS5 Discless version, again, offer something for them, a £10-15 fee for the Digital version for example, the game goes on sale for a similar price already, so its not much to offer them.

I'm glad I bought this dirt cheap on EGS, its a good game, but of course Remedy have to half ass something like always

One of my favourite games recently, but they can fuck off.
Thankfully you can vote with your wallet and still play games.

No one deserves free PS5/XSX upgrade unless it was offered as part of the purchase. You bought a PS4/XBO game knowing it was a closed system and that was your choice.

The problem is they are re-selling the exact same game that people paid up to $80, changing the name and offering PS5/XSX upgrade.
No matter how you slice it or what your expectactions should be, it is just a shitty thing to do.

This kinda reminds me of Dark Souls Remastered. Don't remember there being such an uproar then.

It was $40 bucks too. If you own Dark Souls Remastered and you're complaining in this thread, find a corner and just start tickling yourself.

That's how dumb you look right now.

No one deserves anything, including devs/publishers not deserving your money. A lot of the industry is built on goodwill though, and when you shit on your customers they will shit back at you. The people being shafted in this case are all those that bought the game early (and likely paid for the season pass too), which are the most likely to get the next Remedy game early. Good idea to piss them off.

Here's the problem I have with this:
The ultimate edition is just the base game + season pass
If you own the base game and purchased the season pass, you don't have the ultimate edition, and therefore are not eligible for the upgrade.
Give it to everyone who owns the game plus the season pass because that is essentially the ultimate edition.

You make a good point.

I think most people would be fine with a fee.

This also doesn’t account for Season Pass owners who have all the content that is in the Ultimate Edition, yet aren’t given the PS5/XSX upgrade. They want you to buy a game twice. They can go swim in an ocean of dicks.

I saw some people in industry from 2K etc trying to make excuses for 505 saying they had a right to basically charge people again for the game even though there is literally nothing new in the next-gen UC version but then complain when other games aren't free upgrades.

I own Control + DLC, why should I pay for it again when there is no additional content, Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest XI S are so different in terms of content its WORTH paying the money for that and same with P5R this is just a quick grab

They can do one

EDIT: Before the hate starts, I LOVE Control, one of the best games this gen, just think this practice is shitty when its clear that games don't have enough of an upgrade to start charging people again for next gen versions.

You couldn't patch dark souls on the PS3 to work on the ps4, but you can with the ps4 to ps5. The new consoles have been built with backwards compatibly in mind and I guess people expect developers to use it.

The game is not even that old either, I brought it in a sale right before they announced this, I'll just play on ps4 but can see where early adopters are coming from.

I suppose that is a notable distinction. However, what if you owned Dark Souls on the Xbox 360, like i did. Dark Souls is backwards compatible on the Xbox One. I bought Dark Souls Remastered on the Xbox One X. So I guess it just depends on where your original experience that this particular game lies.

I bought Control on a sale just like you did along with the "Foundations" DLC. However it was on PC. Therefore a double dip for me means switching platforms, which kind of takes the sting out of this announcement. I haven't played Control on console, but I can't imagine it would play better on console as far as the controls go. Still, the raytracing part and the DLC that I didn't get would probably make this purchase worth it for me for $40. My PC is running a 1070ti so no raytracing for me.
