Go Go Neo Rangers!
yeah, that's what I understand too.

That's something.

I wonder if there will be a standard edition when those boxes come out but they simply aren't letting you buy it since those machines simply don't exist yet. But then they can also try to hook people now into paying the extra $10

Standard Digital Edition ($59.99 MSRP): Includes the game on PlayStation 4. Players can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game for an additional $10.** Read this FAQ for more intel.

Cross-Gen Digital Edition ($69.99 MSRP): Includes both a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 copy of the game.**

Ultimate Digital Edition ($89.99 MSRP): Includes both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game**, the “Land, Sea, and Air Pack,” and the Battle Pass Bundle (includes 20 immediately activated Tier Skips) to purchase a Battle Pass for any post-launch Season of Black Ops Cold War

Scummery.

Charge $70, and also have MTX. Have your cake and eat it too.

And yet the audience will lap that shit up, and so this shit will keep propagating so....

Yeah it is like they smell blood (money) and can't help but keep pushing for more and more. Yet we have people advocating for really expensive HW on top of increases to base game prices, DLC, MTX, paid online. No doubt with price increases to come. Yes I'm getting old now but they really are taking the piss too IMO. Will see how this pans out with the full details.

Can we all agree that this is the best 3D render of Ronald Reagan ever?

The face, skin and all that is amazing but the eyes don't seem right to me for some reason.

It reminds me of the movie Point break with Patrick Swazey in it, I think he is wearing the Reagan Mask as part of the ex-presidents crew.

I guess that's its a very old movie not sure how many people remember it.

It was fantastic though.

It's almost mind-boggling how the tables have flipped. It wasn't that long ago that people thought PS5 was going through devkit issues or behind schedule now it's looking like maybe Microsoft are running a bit behind.
Nah some GAFers are still saying PS5 struggles to run REVIII in 4k even after the game was showed running in 4K on PS5... and got mad when is called out.

Looking forward to the Digital Foundry breakdown. Can't wait for a monotone voice to be disappointed in pixel count and rAy-tRAcIng.

All jokes aside, it does look nice. Wonder what kind of upgrade we'll see once they finally drop PS4/Xbox One support. Granted I haven't played a COD game since Black Ops 2, so I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Anyway, I want a sim heavy revival of SOCOM: US Navy Seals. Don't agree? Come at me.

Already late to the party.

""In terms of the actual look of the game, although the footage is from the PlayStation 5, there's not anything that stands out as being obviously next-gen - if the same footage had the words 'PC' or even 'Xbox One X' next to it, I'd be a little more impressed but I'd still believe it."

Modern Warfare uses pre rendered CGI cutscenes, so I think the first 2 images are just that, pre rendered cutscenes so don't get your hopes up thinking that it is real time :messenger_grimmacing_ just saying. But with that said, the new MW engine looks so good and I bet they're using RT shadows just like MW on PC so that's cool

Since the next-gen consoles have such a massive leap in CPU performance, I wonder if they'll be able to accurately simulate Reagan's Alzheimer's disease.

After credits scene will show Reagan putting his car keys in the freezer.

"Many people seem to think that the PS3's GPU is an upgraded model of GPUs for the PC, but it actually has a completely different architecture," -- Ken Kutaragi

Yeah he’s lying or wrapping in the Cell part of the equation. The Sony rasterizer plan fell apart and they were forced to go find a GPU fast. I just re-read Shippy’s book on the project lol.

The entire point of the Cell was to be a PS2 setup taken to the extreme, but by the time they were ready to launch the GPU market consolidated and sped up and Sony’s graphics team couldn’t remotely compete. It’s a pity they didn’t pay for a G80 instead, but that was probably real pricy.

you're right, cod started using CGI for cutscene with Advance Warfare and that scene with Reagan is also CGI.

About that COD trailer.
Isn't the multiplayer reveal date (September 9) the same as the rumored Sony event and the 25th anniversary of the PS release in the USA?

That seems to confirm that event.

And I can't understand MS strategy. If I were to go against Sony I'd go all in in at least getting marketing rights to what were the biggest third party games last gen: COD, GTA, ...

So remember when Xbox had supposed upper hand on cross gen stuff, namely Smart Delivery, hmm guess that is broken....

Well Microsoft does have that policy where you can't pay for patches. I guess Activision got around that by making you buy a whole new copy of the game. I've always said that publishers will find a way around that policy.

This is a little confusing - is this saying the cross-gen budle only exists for PS?

I think it's saying that for Xbox there will be two different versions of the game. And if you buy the Xbox One version you won't have the option to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version.

With the PS4 you have to pay 10$ extra to upgrade to the PS5 version or you can get a bundle that includes both for 70$.

PS5 and Xbox Series X’s SSDs Are “Fantastic” Upgrades – Destroy All Humans! Developer
“Having this level of IO performance is a fantastic upgrade to what we have been working with up to now,” Conradie said in an interview with GamingBolt. “You’ll see a revolution in next-gen games where loading time either is minimal or outright removed. Even the lower IO performance on the Xbox Series X is already a fantastic upgrade.”

“The PS5 will be the benchmark platform for CPU optimization where the goal would be to get the same end-result performance on both platforms,” Conradie said.

.... It's... not even funny anymore.

I actually know a person that was hyped about smart delivery even though I tried to explain it's nothing new and is just a marketing term. I wonder what he'll think about this.

Probably still thinks it's the second coming of Christ.

Surely there will be a standard Ps5 edition as well at some point for the lower price?

...oh, who am I kidding. It’s Activision. They’d take the gold fillings out of their grannie’s teeth, the greedy little washpots.

It's confusing but the FAQ makes it pretty clear there will be a standard edition for PS5/XSX. The $70 edition seems like an option for people who want to get the game at launch and not worry about upgrading to the next gen version. Seems like physical and digital PS4 editions will be upgradable for $10 to the PS5 version, but Xbox is TBD for digital and not happening for physical.

From the FAQ (https://support.activision.com/blac.../call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-editions-faq):

Digital Standard Edition – PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Battle.net
The digital Standard Edition features the base game Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War along with the Confrontation Weapons Pack that includes two Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapon blueprints, available at launch.

Next-generation upgrade options for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Both digital console versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War offer upgrades, within the same console family, from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5.

  • PlayStation 4 will have an option to upgrade to PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation Store.
  • Xbox One upgrade to Xbox Series X through the Microsoft Store is currently being evaluated and new information will be updated in this FAQ when available. Please see information below regarding the Xbox Series X version as part of the digital Cross-Gen Bundle.
Both current generation versions (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) will be playable on their respective next-generation console via backwards compatibility by downloading the game from your account’s digital library. But, the game will not include any of the next-generation features, such as higher framerate, hardware based ray-tracing, faster load times, and more.

Physical Standard Edition – PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
The physical Standard Edition features the base game Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and is available for pre-order now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One through select retailers.

Next-generation upgrade options

  • PlayStation 4 version will have an option to upgrade to PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation Store. Please note: The PlayStation 4 disc must be inserted into the PlayStation 5 to access the digitally upgraded PS5 version of the game.
  • Xbox One version cannot be upgraded to Xbox Series X. Please note: Please see the information below regarding the Xbox Series X version as part of the digital Cross-Gen Bundle.

Next-Gen Physical Standard Edition – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
  • PlayStation 5 Standard Edition: Includes the PlayStation 5 version of the game on disc. The PlayStation 5 Standard Edition works on the PlayStation 5 console with a disc drive. This version of the game will not operate on a discless PlayStation 5. For a version of Black Ops Cold War that is compatible with the discless PlayStation 5, please refer to the digital Cross-Gen Bundle.
  • Xbox Series X Standard Edition: Includes both the Xbox Series X and Xbox One version of the game on disc.
Previous generation compatibility
  • PlayStation 5 Standard Edition will not operate on a PlayStation 4.
  • Xbox Series X Standard Edition includes an Xbox Series X disc that is also playable on an Xbox One.

Or basically what HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 said:

Sorry I have gone radio silent, got my wrist smacked as I jumped the gun a little early on something but again, its coming.

And its only the physical edition Xbox that cant be upgraded.

I'm sure Xbox did go all in but their money hat bucket wasn't as deep as Sony's.

WRC 9 AIMS FOR 60FPS AT 4K ON PLAYSTATION 5
The next-gen version will make the ninth title shine more with its promising aim: 60FPS at 4K on PlayStation 5.

The next-gen version will also have the ability to bypass the title screen and getting into the action right away. This is all thanks to the PS5’s powerful SSD, which will almost remove load times. Its impressive loading speeds are so fast that almost no lag will be felt on skipping to other game modes and loading save files.
