Source: PlayStation 5 to adjust plans in response Xbox Series X pricing

👀

Sounds like this would have been their plan from the beginning no? It really wouldn't surprise me if they went $449 on the disk version, I don't see anything in PS5 that is notably more expensive than the XSX.

If that rumour about Seagate 1TB expansion cards price being $200 is true, it's better to buy XSX than XSS+card. Better have more power than 500GB more space.
I assume the drives will be cheaper.
I also think there will be some adapter thing which will let you use some cheap m2 SSD... And those drives will get pretty cheap over time, especially since you can use rather slow drives for the XBox

I don’t think they’ll announce the event today as this is their VR week through to Friday and clearly said not to expect PS5 related news. Next week most likely.

Pretty sure Sony knew months ago what the prices would be for XSS and XSX. I believe even HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 said so.

I highly doubt they've been blindsided by anything so far. I just don't see last minute panic happening...maybe a toss up of how close they can get to XSS, but that's about it.

The XSS price has been out there since March and the XsX price was talked about around June?

No these prices didnt blindside Sony.

As much as I want info on the PS5 I think Sony doesn't quite care as much about what Xbox is doing as fans think they do, Sony is doing their own thing.

My post from June actually:

99% sure Lockhart is $299

75% XsX is $499

the only sane, logical and well rounded thought on this matter that i've come across so far over here!

God damn, Sony just release the god damn PS5 teardown video tomorrow and put me out of my misery... Please.

I. Want. The. Fucking. UI.

Show me it's not a slow-ass version of PS4's, show me it's snappy as a mofo, I am sick and tired of going into menus and submenus just to turn off the damned console, show me I can pull up my Spotify lists without having to control that from my laptop.

We know we have games, we know they look good, the internal components we have a pretty good idea what they are (yeah, we don't know the layout, true), but show the freaking UI.

Pretty please?

And adapter for M.2 drives? Have you seen the size of those things?

3080 doubles the performance of 2080 ti. Which non of the consoles can touch .
Not at all. NVIDIA's claim is that 3080 doubles 2080 perf, not the 2080 Ti. They said up to 2x of 2080. On avg. it was about 85% faster in games chosen by nvidia in DF's vid. So I think it's gonna be anywhere between 65-80% faster if tested in an even wider range of games. I'll be waiting for Hardware Unboxed, Gamers Nexus and DF's reviews for 3080.

But they are not selling only for the fans and you can’t deny that a $299 next-gen console around holiday is a very attractive offer especially with Covid19 and the economic uncertainty.

I have said before that $299 is an amazing price especially for someone on a launch day xbox one or even the S and plan on staying on a 1080p display, great value and a killer upgrade.

Legit question, don't you use the quick menu (hold ps button) ?
You can customize it and all. A lot faster than going through it manually.

It baffles me on why they went "proprietary" after the PSP and Vita storage fiascos.

It baffles me as to why Sony haven't.

Xbox want to guarantee a sustained minimum of 2.4GB/sec for developers. If you could put in any SSD, you run the risk of it overheating and speed being lowered. Plus having an external solution means you can unplug the cart, take it round a mate's house and whap it in his Xbox Series console. (Yes you could also do that with a HDD but come on, this is 2020!)

It's going to be extremely interesting to see how Sony have rigged the PS5 so that it not only cools the APU but the user-installed SSD as well.

THIS. We had a glimpse at the PS4 OS features, & its UI nine months before the console's launch. What's the hold up for PS5? No, don't give me that corona BS.

I'm sure they are going for the sell your old console approach, but as a collector it bugs me.
It's a lot more work for sure, but as a consumer I prefer Sony's approach to it.
