Hard to Kill
The criticism that is being made by other developers about XSS has a solid and logical basis. But you have to take into account what XSS really is.

XSS is a system designed for streaming service.

MS makes money from services more than anything else. And he is determined to direct his platforms to that point. But at the marketing level, it must attract the attention of the public with "power". It is logical. what MS really cares about for its future is that people forget about the physical format, that people play by streaming, that the game is subscribed to a fixed monthly fee and that all this allows it to sell less powerful hardware at a lower price obtaining the visual quality that their servers allow. Minimum investment, maximum benefit.

Logically with this there are benefits and drawbacks for everyone as always.
Yeah I can understand a system only based on streaming but my main problem with it (beside how the marketed it)is that it seems like an hybrid approach between a console and a streaming dongle.

Because it doesn't really seems powerful nor has a diskdrive and a really small SSD.So I can't see myself downloading more than 2/3 games on it.But as an entry toward a streaming service 300$ is quite steep.
I find it hard to place it as either a standard console nor as a streaming dongle.

But a simple streaming dongle with wifi6 and bluetooth for a controller would make way more sense. And would be so much easier to market, cheap to produce, cheap price, the whole gamepass catalog as long as your internet speed follows the requirements.

I'm gonna puke

When Kirby called id principal engineer "that id software guy". LOL
No, that id software guy never worked with Sampler Feedback before. /s
Dumbass

"SFS will give XSS an effective 25GB of memory and XSX an effective 40GB"

$299 next-gen console is a fantastic idea for the casual market especially with covid19 and the economic uncertainty and with Xbox All Access, Microsoft indeed hit it perfectly right this time for holiday.

I think it’s more to do with the backend cloud services being fitted with cheap XsS class hardware rather than more expensive and power hungry XsX. $$$

As far as I understand, the RAM problem could be a real problem.
The truth is that, yes, there are likely many PC gamers yet with 8 gigs configurations which are inferior to what XSS offers. And that is because current gen consoles are 8 gigs configurations too.
Consoles should move up the standard, and it's happening: games based on SSDs will be far more in the next few years, it will not only be a support memory for faster loadings, it will be THE memory (I mean, you can debate it already is, but you can still play fine with HDD). If these consoles still had HDDs, we will debate on how a chuncks of PC gamers are yet to adopt an SSD, so where is the problem? The problem is that they wouldn't change at this point anyway, because consoles didn't either.
The idea of a very basic console it's cool, consoles should also be about getting everyone in and easy mode, but if streaming will be a big thing going on do I really fucking need a low tier console to keep playing next gen games while I can keep my shitty One and use Xcloud?
I think MicroSoft is exagerating a bit with this ecosystem stuff.
Oh and for people talking back to the ID dev: let's assume he's wrong, fine. Show a little fucking respect, because even if he's wrong he could DEMOLISH people about the subject every day. I have doubts too, but I would ask him kindly instead of pretending I'm equal to him. I'm fucking not.

Yeah no...

Windows 10 uses around 1.5-2.5GB of RAM.
Xbox one and PS4 1 GB.
Another fuvking wrong answer.
Dude you need to educate yourself.
Your blinded by your fanboism.
Xbox one reserved 3.5 GB for OS .
New xboxes will reserve 2.5 GB.
Just the same amount windows reserves on PC.
So lets try again.
Do xbox run windows ? Yes
Do it need same amount of ram as PC ? Yes

Lol dude, educate yourself. Reserving RAM is not purely for the OS. That's so they can run Netflix, party chat, other apps and stuff like that.

The actual barebone OS uses 1GB for PS4/Xbox one, but reserves more for other stuff. Windows 10 on itself uses 1.5-2.5GB RAM.

Is that clear enough for you, or do I need to dumb it down even more?

What is the perverse reason MSFT wants to hold back this whole generation with the slowest and least powerful next gen console.

Power your dreams, because your games will look like shit?

Because they genuinely have no launch games and are lacking exclusives for the next 2-3 years. So they went with the Gamepass route and unveil the S with their biggest sellingpoint for buying the X and S is to play over 100 high quality games...

Guess what on windows that 2 GB is also used for netflix etc.

Does that really surprises you?You have seen how combative their radical fans are....Let's just remember that sircaw sircaw Fud list that was at more than 50 points was not exhaustive and stopped there because he got bored of it.
Hell there are people thinking XSS will perform better than a Ps5.
No I don't think anyone is that deluded to compare ps5 vs xss . No even hard-core xbox guys

Watch out or you might summon the list guy and his benchmarks

Must be:lollipop_anxious_sweat:
They fucked their firstparty devs without lube..
and fist fucked multiplatform game devs while they were sleeping and gave them an IOU note.

Lets see if customers will really go for this budget game subscription for budget console.

I'm not so sure.

We have a situation where Micorosoft have designed and will release what is obviously a budget console, aimed at a casual market and designed to sell GamePass.

But the hardcore XBox social media shills can't possibly have it that a Sony machine will be more powerful than an XBox one, so we have this ludicrous situation where they are twisting themselves in knots to claim otherwise - even when devs are saying it.

Microsoft have released a budget console that will hobble third party games development and innovation, because they don't really care about it. They care about GamePass. That is the truth of this situation.

It's equally true that Microsoft have made a console with more horsepower than the Ps5... but that seems to have been forgotten about almost completely in favour of the budget console at the moment. I'd like to know the reasons for that.
