yeah, right. get them a 3080 pc for ...school work. that will play out nice for studying I think

I was thinking more like a 3070. Plus in many schools they teach programming and 3D graphical design so having a good GPU might be helpful for them.

I managed to do some hardcore gaming on my PCs while growing up and I still managed to study on the very same PCs. Don't see why they can't do the same.

Or, alternatively, they'll go into the shop and ask for the console where little Billy can play "That new Spiderman game" and be given two options; with or without a diskdrive.

One option : the disc version with a physical copy of the new spiderman game...

Because I have this feeling that most brick & mortar shops won't have huge stocks of the discless consoles...

Getting a store to actively support the digital model would take some effort. Specifically, ensuring that they still have a place in that marketplace. I'm sure a lot of thought went into what pro-retailer moves could be made to get the digital console into stores without penalties. It will be interesting to see how the numbers go and what stores are doing xyz.

Hate to break it to some folks but there will be no confusion over prices or brands. People know what they want.

People who want a Xbox will buy the right Xbox for their needs. People who want a PlayStation will buy a PlayStation, unless it’s like 200$ more expensive.

Xbox One has been selling at 250/300$ for years now, hasn’t done shit for sales. People don’t buy things in a vacuum, these aren’t cellphones where some old dude might say “I need a phone”, and then he enters the store and buys a 50$ phone.

It's great that this event will focus on the games, seems like we'll get actual gameplay!

I mentioned a while back we won't get a hardware breakdown anytime soon, I think we'll get it only after AMD showcase and reveal RDNA 2 and Zen 3 which is towards the end of next month.

I'm pumped for next weeks event, fingers crossed for a God of War sequel teaser!

Phil Spencer : "The Xbox Series S has four times the processing power of the Xbox One x and pretty similar graphics. It's really hard to compare specs like teraflops across generations."

"Xbox Series S and Xbox One X have similar graphics"

Damn, walking cat 2/2 with the video leaks.

Parts 3 and 4

If you're not serious about continuing with consoles but don't want to piss your userbase off, which strategy would you go for? You can simply tell your userbase you're no longer interested in the console business or you can put a console out knowing it isn't going to do that well and so save yourself millions in promotions and manufacturing. One leads to 'Microsoft didn't intend to ever be competitive and sold us down the swanny' the other leads to 'Well, they lost but at least they gave it a damn good try'.

They're not interested in winning the console war, folks.
Hey man, long time no see. Will never forget the tough times you helped me through. Alright so this will probably annoy some but it's true. My ex boss who is also a dear friend of mine is a marketing engineer for MS. He laughs at some of the post here because he states that, "Microsoft is kind of annoyed by Xbox hardware because they lose out on hardware sales. They have people that they actually hire to basically leak things like the XSS or to spin things with certain journalist". He explained there is no mistake that the intentional leak happened around Sony's 25th anniversary either. This is straight from his mouth over dinner this past week. He has been saying for 1.5 years that MS Xbox is bowing out of consoles which is why you have the cloud chips. So in his mind, we look silly arguing when Sony and Nintendo want to stick with traditional gaming with a open eye to cloud gaming in the future. MS doesn't really care about consoles anymore and its the truth. I try not to get into it when I see people get passionate about MS Xbox power because they just don't care and want your subscription only. Anyway, much love and thanks again for the kindness shown during those crazy times in that thread.
