Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

This article was published only 13 days before the Halo Infinite gameplay premiere, so Phil was already aware of this worry of Xbox One holding back XSX games before the showcase happened.

And yet he saw that gameplay footage, thought "yeah, that looks next gen," and gave the okay to air it?
I doubt he had any choice? What's he gonna say though? Surely he has a lot of pressure from a lot of people above him and can't do or say whatever he wants?

Come on guys get your tickets

I'll get one thanks :p

Personally I don't know any unhappy xbox user with what microsoft has proposed. Instead, I've spoken to few friends that usually dont jump in day1, and S makes it possible for them to do so. And all those getting the X, none was unhappy nor concerned. the contrary.
What happens in this thread is a twisted virtual reality I have to say.
I mean, even for "the games", like you mention.
I see the whole bunch here pissing together on xbox because "oh no, not another forza, fuck this shit! halo has to die! craig crucified! gears of shit, who plays that dumb-ass fuckshit anymore?"
and at the same time, the same people gather in a big circle, and jerk off to what? rachet no.15, the next gran turismo, spiderman expansion, the next horizon, god of war, and even beg and cheer for last generation games to be brought back.
I mean, it really doesnt take a doctorate on psychology to see the craziness going on.

Lastly, about the specific subscription that is gamepass, you are dead wrong here my friend.
its a terrific thing to have, and great value for money.
Having bought waaay more than 400 games on xbone myself, at first I laughed with the concept and though "meh, good for casuals, maybe"
Well its not. it is really a fantastic deal, receiving all first party day1 free of charge, always something drops out of nowhere to test every week, etc etc.
When sony finally copies it -because they will- , then and only then most of the people in this thread will understand. including you ;]

edit

say high to my ignore list buddy
U r an example of subconsciously unhappy xbox fan running around trying to fight everyone to feel better. Just saying 😜

Here's what nextgen enhanced games gamepass gets you for free on day one:
Why does every xbox defender keep saying Gamepass is free? last time i checked (just now) it's 12,99 euro a month or 100 euro for a year. so, when i get PSnow for 60 euro a year with my PS5 i can virtually say that Sony stuffed me a 50 euro bill while walking out of the door? or can i get PSnow and Demons souls for free? Damn i like these green colored glasses!

Can someone explain the whole L1 cache situation re 4 shader arrays feeding 14 CUs or whatever it was in Series Sex. geordiemp geordiemp ?

We dont know if there is any situation, it is simply even though both consoles are RDNA2 they are so very different they are not comparable in TF until we compare how things run.

CU do the shader work, and are given data by memory >>>> L2 cache >>>>>>>> L1 cache >>>>>>>>>> L0 Cache and you can think of each >>> as bandwidth, and the size of the cache and amount of compression is a factor in pumping data to the CUs.

Each step getting closer to the CU gets faster and shorter in distance and clock cycles. You cna see this in the RDNA1 white paper below, look at the bandwidths of the caches, RDNA1 is so much faster than GCN and even with RDNA1 having much less TF it smokes GCN.

How do Ps5 and XSX compare, well they both use 4 arrays, each fed by L1 cache. See below, we dont know the layout of ps5, but it will be similar concept with 4 shader arrays as well so I highlighted blue for easy comparison,.

So you cannot compare TF ONLY when one part has 20 % faster clock and the data paths will be very different, its not a simple one has 18 % more TF therefore thats the difference. The extreme example is RDNA1 vs VEGA

My take is XSX will have an edge, but not as much as TF analysis says, but we have to see software running as Cache size and efficiency is just as important as theoretical TF, as you have to keep CU utilised with work. Lets see eh ?

Yeah I think I grasp it, doesn't the Vega get outperformed? I see the X having the edge only in RTX and some neglible resolution outputs here and there. For overall fidelity and asset quality I'm banking on that I/O to give PS5 the edge.

Yes 5700 smokes VEGA, RDNA1 having smaller wavefronts and feeding CU much better and faster and introduced the L1 cache.

Ps5 to XSX we cannot compare yet, Cus are not ever close to full utilisation as Cerny said in road to Ps5....we need to know all the cache sizes and bandwidths.

There is gossip of Big Navi having a huge cache sizes...Note XSX increased L2 from 4 to 5MB, MS did not disclose L1 when asked at hotchips.....we have no data on ps5 caches other than Cerny mentioned them allot so lets see.

I must be the only one thinking a $399 Digital Edition PS5 is enough to sink Series S and put the blow torch to Series X.
Digital Edition is going to be PS5's big seller.
399$ is a great price. It will be a great deal. If they were to do 350 then that would certainly sink Xbox and no one in their right would recommend XSS over PS5.
My main point was there should be a at least 100$ difference between them to have an impact on people's mind.

Preach. Also, PSNow has far more games on it than GamePass.

Not sure if posted here, but here's a supposed leak from "El Corte Inglés", one of the main retailers from Spain. Take it with a ton of grain of salt:

The photo seems to show 2 console SKUs codenamed 'Aurea' and 'Enigma' priced 499.90€ and 399.90€ respectively, which sound like potential PS5 and PS5DE prices:

Source: Areajugones, an Spanish gaming media (not one of the top ones in Spain). Probably they got it from some Spanish forums, not sure:

Whilst looking a bit better I still see no shadows sometimes where there should be, in the previous trailers they are there under different lighting conditions, more direct sunlight, but also not there for eg when there's a fire burning youd expect shadows cast, but not to be. Not a lot of environmental movement or destruction either.

I dont think its a surprise this probably won't be featured in the big show coming up, its a smallish team and looks quite fun but its not really pushing the next gen feel outside of metrics.

Rx 5500 xt which is very similar to XSS (22 CU, minus RT engines) seems to have only one Shader Engine but how does this translate to half polygon throughput exactly, is it because having less rasterizer blocks?

Prim units and rasterisers are built into each shader array, of which there are two per shader engine.
As it has half as many shader engines, it has half as many prim units and rasterisers. Therefore half as many triangles per clock.
Add in 15% lower clockspeed and you end up with roughly 42.5% of the Series X's geometry throughput.
