Why do I have to do damage control? I don't work for Sony. The truth is, Sony has always supported the previous gen after their new console launches. I guess be mad that they "lied" but things happen. Are we mad at Spencer because it wasn't that long ago that all games were to come to Xbox One consoles for two years but now that is no longer true? Nope. Things happen.
I was being a bit facetious with my comments you replied to but there are some of you that will absolutely cling to anything negative you can about Sony. It looks desperate as each time Sony shuts something down some of you guys jump to the next big thing that is going to bring them down. I'm sure in the end this will turn out to not be nearly as horrible as it is being made out to be.

I have no problem with games being cross gen, it was the Sony warriors that lost their shit over Xbox being open about 1st year games would be cross gen. It depends on how they handle it. If I can't tell a game was held back, if it feels next-gen then I won't care. But if a game looks held back then I'll certainly be upset. As much as I love Dark Souls II that game got a huge downgrade to fit on prior gen consoles, don't look up Youtube footage of what it was meant to look like... it's too upsetting.

Firstly housecleaning - I'll hold my hands up and say I'm irritated that those games are cross-gen. With that out of the way, I'd put it to you that the (bigger) uproar regarding Xbox's commitment to keep putting games out for last-gen partly stems from the Halo Infinite showing. Arguably, Halo is Xbox's biggest IP by far and people probably thought "shit if this is what cross-gen first party Xbox games look like.. I don't want cross-gen". I know that not every studio is the same, and there are XGS studios that know how to make beautiful looking games but when they put out Halo in that state it sort of indirectly said "this is what Xbox thinks is acceptable to sell".
With Miles Morales, it looked pretty next-gen to me (Horizon looked great, I say Spiderman has the edge). The whole reason people were/are angry about cross-gen is that they don't want studios to put out shit last-gen looking games. Playstation as of yesterday essentially showed that everything is OK. Xbox on the other hand still has yet to prove themselves with regard to putting out a game that is cross-gen and also next-gen looking.
I'm sure you'll just read this as a big paragraph of damage control. Feel free! But what I'm saying is I (not necessarily everyone else, can only speak for myself) would've given Microsoft the benefit of the doubt with cross-gen if they'd come out with a really amazing looking Halo gameplay trailer.

If Spiderman and Horizon 2 are coming to PS4, then there’s a good chance GoW 2 will be on PS4 too. If all of Sony’s biggest games are cross gen (and most 3rd party games will certainly be), then Sony should try to keep shrinking the PS4 APU so they can release a PS4 handheld.
Such a handheld would launch with PS4’s incredible library from day one, and could still expect strong future releases from 1st and 3rd party developers. If The Witcher 3 can run on Switch, then most PS5 titles should be able to be ported down to PS4.

I'm asking how they supported it, because it certainly wasn't with first party games lol. GT6 came out like a month after the PS4s release, but that's about it. They leave their old consoles to die straight away usually, unless of course you mean simply manufacturing them counts as "supporting".

This forum thought the vita would absolutely kill the 3DS and send nintendo broke though, so I'm sure your idea will get a lot of support here.

I think he was referring to first party titles. The ones you mentioned are all third party. What third party choose to do is not really up to Sony or Microsoft.

Well I'm trying to be balanced. I've spent months laughing at Xbox for similar things so I cannot turn around and pretend nothing happened with PS5. Jim says 'important for 3-4 years" and also says Horizon and Miles Morales are cross-gen. The real test will be whether something like Ratchet is cross-gen or not. You would think it simply won't run on a PS4 unless they extend the dimension slip sequence by like 10 seconds or something.
My reading of it was that developers in general would likely support PS4 for a few years but that's me giving Jim the benefit of the doubt and therefore skewing my interpretation. He could be well lying to us and every single first party title for the 2 or 3 years is cross-gen so they can milk the existing PS4 user base. We really don't know at this point.

I do not have problem with late generation new games for it and new games after. Cross generation yes, I do mind that, but new games for both not really.
Historically it was third parties and Sony still offering support, now Sony is bigger and doing more of that too. Still, yes Ryan lost one occasion of shutting the f* up he could have taken.
