While we discuss Zenimax, I can't help but wonder why people call games coming to a console and PC "exclusives". They are not, they're multiplatform.

In any case, good move by MS. i don't particularly care about any of those games apart from Doom, and pray to all gods that MS can fix Bethesda.

Yeah I understand how market cap is calculated. They idea is that all current shareholders could sell off all stock and suddenly they'd have 1.5 trillion in cash. Obviously such a scenario is theoretical. Any firesale in reality would drive the price down rapidly, etc.

But it is a very accurate measure to compare corporations' values. Price+volume.

Its a good way of seeing how much trust a certain business enjoys, not value. Sony, just to keep it close to home, is a very undervalued brand when you look at how big they are, but due to several reasons, people dont trust their business too much.

I‘m hoping that this will increase the level of competition, which will in turn force both Sony and Microsoft into working harder for our money. To look on the positive side, this may end up benefitting us as gamers, and give us more choice.

I hope your right, but i have serious doubts about this.

I really really hope i am wrong, but i genuinely do feel this is the end of good gaming. Microsoft is going to make a monster that will swallow everything up in a sea of Netflix like content. The amount of shit i have watched on Netflix, and have stopped a quarter of the way through is astounding.

Same thing, trust is value. Only reason the US dollar is worth anything is trust, despite our governments 20 trillion plus debts.

Market values are magic tricks, but they are what they are. Thats capitalism.

I think it's same deal like on Sega acquisition on Atlus(Sega owns Atlus but still has publishing rights)meanwhile Sega can give ideas or request on atlus(like way happened on Persona4Golden PC)

Sony properly will buy Rockstar Games studio? that would be the real bomb :goog_rofl:
I don’t think Sony could just buy Rockstar. I believe they are partnered with Take 2. Sony would have to buy Take 2. Which would cost as much as Bethesda or near that price. Sony could buy 1 year time exclusive rights to GTA6 though.

Also I don’t look for Bethesda games to be exclusive to Xbox. I can see Bethesda games going to Gamepass at launch and then 6 months to 1 year later going Sony’s platform.

Bo Microsoft have a market cap of over 1.5 Trillion dollars. I love PlayStation. But I can do basic math and I know 1.5 trillion is fucking huge lol. Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, these corporations are on a different level.
Market cap is a market valuation, it matter in M&A only if other party agree to be paid in stock. Given how tech stock greatly overvalued, personally I would agree only to be paid in cash (like Zenimax did).

Wait so Microsoft bought Bethesda and now all their games on Game Pass.... but some/all are also gonna be on other platforms too? Thats odd choice, like Minecraft?

No way, they gotta be locking those games up to Xbox/PC. No way they let Starfield/Scrolls6 go to PS5.
You are looking at it as a console war. But it is a business decision, and for MS it makes sense to improve their GM offer.
On other hand buying Zenimax for 7.5bln and put it out of multiplat is a risky move, as value of investment will quickly deteriorate way beyond any gain in install base due to exclusivity of one particular publisher. Most of Europe/Asia will not switch to xbox just because it have skyrim/fallout/doom, at most they opt to play on PC.
The same reason minecraft never went exclusive - it will bring some players in, but at the same time it will kill value of 4bln investment, and gain most probably never will offset losses.

Its a good move, very good move. Keep them in conversations of having games without having to create. Its the MS way just buy it & spin it. Despite Bethesda games not being block busters. They got cute games. Obsidian can make fallout again. whatever.

This whole gen I played dishonored. I bought doom for 8 bucks & never played it. So its meh. This is nice, its nice. This should force Sony to finally have to focus on the PS brand & stop all that other goofy shit movies,pc games. Fuck all that goofy shit. Concentrate on being the best place to play. Exclusives matter again.

Once Bethesda Honor their pre-existing contracts. And some loop holes are found. Parent company can take over & Im sure all their games will be exclusive & content for game pass. Way overpriced & I think its an L long term. Just like skype. But that's what MS do so meh

This is very good though.

If rockstar was up for grabes, microsoft would probably be the one to purchase them.

In the end, this doesnt change a thing for someone that goes PS5/PC this gen, so i am not really bothered. I wonder what the pro consumer group thinks of this...

Yeah, ultimately this may be what puts a Series S under my TV but more likely than not I'll just upgrade my pc.

Okay, there seems to be a lot of confusion over Microsofts acquisition of Bethesda... All I want to know is, will we see Craig wearing a suit of armour, sword and shield or not. 🤔😋

I just hope Microsoft doesn't buy FromSoftware....I need my Souls games, and also would be cool to get Armored Core every now and then too! Considering how well Bloodborne did and how the Souls series has influenced RPG's so much, I think it would be a smart move for Sony.

Great move from MS. This is honestly one of the best purchases they needed. Bethesda/Zenimax now are dropping a lot of really nice games so this can give MS a constant flow of cool games - I hope Sony will counter somehow - all I want from sony is to drop the prices of the games from 80 euro to 60. Those games prices is the only thing that keeps me from buying Day1 PS5.

I think i've found the difference between Demon's Souls High graphics vs High framerate modes
Here's a shot from the latest 60fps trailer (frame taken from highest quality available)

And here's a shot from the same area, from an official screenshot released a few weeks ago:

Color temperature differences aside, you may notice the first shot's environment ambient shadows are much softer and less defined than the latter, giving the castle a blurrier look. You may also notice some lighting effects are turned up, like atmospheric light scattering, more accurate soft shadows and generally more accurate lighting on the characters (compare detail and speculars on shield).

I believe the people at sony/bluepoint wanted to dispel any rumors about "performance" modes looking bad, so they showed the 4K60fps gameplay knowing we'd be impressed with it, even though they have an even better looking version coming up.

The later could be just PS5 direct feed, uncompressed by youtube, or earlier build. Could as well be 30fps mode as you said. Would go for graphics myself.

There has been lots of talk in the media about Sony and Microsoft going in different directions thanks to Game Pass etc. This kind of feels to me that Microsoft are preparing the Xbox division for a future in which there is no actual box that is the Xbox, but you have Game Pass and X Cloud etc that let you play Xbox games on all sorts of devices. I think that is pretty obviously the future Microsoft are aiming for - the question is how will the years between now and then look in terms of the systems these games come to etc. Or those reports and people thinking like this are just 100% wrong and Microsoft are doubling down on the Xbox being a box and having exclusive games for it!

This is interesting.

The trailer must have been at half 4K resolution but upscaled using internal hardware. It was a pretty convincing 4K, definitely worth the resolution hit for 60fps.

This is a 4K screenshot, it could be just the angle, lighting + direct feed from PS5 instead of compressed video. Also could be early build, which it is.

The way I see it having all these titles day one on GamePass is enough of a selling factor - they don't need to be exclusive, they just need to be "free" on XBox GamePass. Make the regular money from PS gamers as well.
