You'd expect demand for XSS to get greater closer to Christmas. For those chomping at the bit for a next gen XBox they want full fat XSX.

I nabbed a pre-order from Amazon so I'm good for both PS5 and XSX.

Buying a studio can be tricky, because a lot of the best talent at these companies are people who've been with the teams since they were smaller, and there are cultures built up that no one wants to disrupt. Buying Rockstar could be a disaster, as you don't want to disrupt the environment that fosters the current level of creativity they have. Like them or not, they make blockbusters that garner a lot of fan favor. Integrating those teams into the larger company's org chart will always create ripples, as certain corporate policies will have to be adopted, and higher ups will lose certain liberties and freedoms they previously had, as they're now reporting to someone for the first time. This then influences some of the decisions they made more freely for their subordinates. You'll also end up downsizing at least a little bit, as there are inevitable redundancies in areas like marketing and logistics. Those are people who've established relationships with employees elsewhere in the company, and who might have additional roles that they fill outside of their main job title.

I think it's nice to wax philosophical about who Sony or MS can buy up next, but the reality is much more than dollar signs. I think in the case of Sony, it only makes sense to look at smaller studios who already rely heavily on the PS marketing machine due to previous exclusivity deals. That has the knock-on benefit of having a library of games that already fit into the PS mold, where there's an established audience for them. If Sony bought Bethesda, they could sell a decent number of games, but is the PS the bread-winner for Bethesda? Aren't they more of a multiplat type of studio, who leverages strength across multiple platforms and not just one?

At least GTA and FF have had some level of PS exclusivity in the past, but I don't know if Zenimax fits that description. So I don't think there is necessarily any need to counter the move by MS. It helps bolster MS's gaming portfolio, but they were going to have to do that anyway. If Sony is worried about losing console sales to the Xbox, based on a developer that didn't really sell Playstations, then I'd wager there are bigger concerns for Sony than the number of studios under their umbrella. MS buying SE or Rockstar/Take2 would be a reason for Sony to make a counter move. Bethesda wasn't going to put any significant number of Playstations in homes that wouldn't already be there for other games, particularly those from Sony WW studios.

Did we expect something else just because they bought Bethesda?
Did you see some of the thread titles on the main page of the Gaming section lol

Do you have any idea if this latest Bethesda, and the other big news is a reaction to Sony's bleeding MS on other fronts that aren't announced yet? If it's NDA, don't answer.
This crossed my mind earlier today. Was not sure if it was Jason Schrier or D.Ahmed who alluded to the fact Sony is making big moves behind the scenes.
Im sure there is still a lot that Sony is holding back.

I hope Bethesda games drop on Gamepass soon. Would be good incentive to pick up an Xbox for any neutral consumers.

Above all of that, games aren't gonna produce themselves. You need to spend 50-300million on each title. The more money you fund, and the more time you give, more quality can be produced assuming you're pouring it on the right people. So, is MS willing to spend another $1-2B on those titles and give each 5-7 years?

Of course not. Ask Bungie.

I think buying Rockstar alone is massive, but it'll be too expensive that you can spend the money more wisely on already friendy studios like Kojima Productions, Bluepoint, Atlas. Konami and Sega are less expensive and have massive titles.

Sony as well has plenty of neglected IP's that are begging to return. With such money or less, you could buy both, not to mention that you can push PES over FIFA.

It’s probably considered as blasphemy in some circles but I think Segas IP’s would do extremely well under Nintendo.

MS needs to invest an additional $7B just to teach Bethesda on how to code 🤣 and another Billion or 2 to remove their bugs from the current games.

I kid I kid 😂

I'm cool don't worry. ;)
Just maybe i misinterpreted your comment.
For mistake from Sony, the only one i see is the price of game but is it so irrelevant to increase price?
We want want more blowing game from developer and want to pay less and in the same time the budget for a game to develop is increasing.
Well, more quality always implies higher cost, either in the same time or in less. In any case, it will be the user who will have to decide if that game is worth "that price".

judging by the way there forums have been going with the dire sony forum posts the the last 24 hours, yes. :messenger_grinning:
Well yeah in the long term Sony has to react to this. It's not like Microsoft will stop buying studios, but we also know that it takes time to develop games. So buying Bethesda now doesnt mean you need to buy XSS now. Just buy it when ES6 releases on it

Probably they're facing yields issues then, then reflect that on Sony through Bloomberg's pseudo source.
Just because I like to follow things I find interesting, and also because I didn't like sony's dismissive yet vague reaction to bloomberg's article,
here is an article from taiwan business times verifying bloomberg's article 100%, with 58% yields overall factory output
I'm pretty sure -since AMD is the customer- microsoft and sony are fighting right now for time slices of AMD's operations

Why does Sony need to react at all? They still have some of the best studios around. Plus we know how Microsoft has a tendency to kill studios. RIP RARE RIP.

It must be all saints day, because for once I fully agree with something you said. Also, depending on my computer upgrade and if I get a new graphics card, I'll probably get a Series S sometime in the future to stick in my office

Not joking though, Sony has those IP's in hibernation mode:

And a LOT more. Games don't produce themselves, you need to spend big on each title to make a quality game, and you need quality control as well. So for those foaming xbox fans, it's better to wait and see the results first, before waiting for 7 years for every other E3.

I don't think article telling that tsmc yelds for both consoles is 58% and that will improve significally after q4 verify 100% bloomber article that Sony has problems with productions due only 50% yelds

That combines both companies, and Sony already secured 10-11 million in the first fiscal year. According to store numbers, it's mostly now 1:5 ratio for PS5 favor. Do the math, gonna go eat something now.

EDIT: I'm talking about only in the US, I've never seen it here.

I don't know how much of this really changes anything from a sony perspective. Could they go out and buy some studios, sure i would love bluepoint and from soft ware, but do Sony really need to, i don't think so.

There are probably agreements in place for all those games that those acquired studies have made to appear on sony's system. Even the elder scrolls i would imagine is 99% coming to the ps5.

The reason i believe this is, that this is the last generation of console hardware made from Microsoft. They want their game pass app everywhere, like they said they don't even care if you buy there system as long as you play there app.

I have a feeling in 5-7 years when the new console generation comes out, there will just be Sony left and you will have the option to play there app on its console.

That is my two sense.

As much as people think this is some sort of win for Microsoft in the console war, i believe both companies are going to get exactly what they want in the not to distant future.

Sony ain't secured 11 million for shit my friend. Their press release was a joke and an insult to brain activity

bon appetit

When you offer(from what I've seen and know from Stop contacts) so few systems, you can't totally shocked or blameless, as Sony or Microsoft, that retailers don't want to wait for you.

What's the point? Six? Two? I mean, come on.

im mostly kind of bummed about Doom and i would've given TES VI a try even if i didn't really like skyrim
And yea some people are jumping the gun as usual, we have yet to see the big acquisitions we know are coming from sony. I expect them to announce Kojipro joining PS game studios, along with the secret cerny game sometime soon.
Sony has massive relationships with Bluepoint(referred to as the master of remasters) and HouseMarque. Same goes for KojiPro. TakeTwo also has a long standing relationship with Sony, even more intimate than they do with Microsoft, i doubt about TakeTwo getting acquired by anybody anytime soon, if ever. The insane value of each of their ips is in the dozens of billions and the company as a whole should be worth 5-6 times that much, i doubt anybody will ever make a move on them ,they're far too expensive. The best any company could do is maintain a steady relationship with them much like Sony's doing and the rest will come by itself in due time.
