The people acting like 4chan didn't leak the Wii U and countless other things

The people acting like SEGA is some two bit company and doesn't have a GOLDMINE of IP that outsold the fucking Super Nintendo at one point

The people acting like XBOX having ATLUS, SONIC, Virtua Fighter etc. wouldn't be a big deal right now

The amount of forced downplaying in this thread is insane

SEGA not being a major force in the industry has always really felt wrong I quit console gaming for 5 years after the dreamcast failed

Microsoft needs SEGA and SEGA needs Microsoft this should have happened 19 years ago with the Sega Chihiro being based off the Original XBOX this is like the most obvious thing that NEEDS to happen since forever I really hope this is true console gaming is in a huge rut right now this would make things really interesting again
The biggest reason people doubting this, because majority of Saga's fanbase are in Japan and huge amount of Japanese gamers either have Playstation or Nintendo systems and Xbox is almost none existence in Japanese market.

New generation. Microsoft buy Sega now, sega announce a whole raft of new japanese centric games exclusively on Xbox, the japanese public will buy the new xbox.

No they didn't. They made a few japanese games themselves, they didn't own one of the Japanese game industries favourite sons.
They tried, Xbox is just not popular in Japan.

It's nice in theory, but console gaming as a whole has declined in that part of the world. Handhelds and portable gaming appeals more than the average Japanese gamer than an Xbox. Not sure SEGA exclusives would counteract the shift in focus for that market.

Microsoft should just buy gaming but let me choose between trophies and achievements (no equivalent of a platinum for achievements and I need to keep that thrill). Oh and then get rid of sub models

:) . BTW What's Phil doing in Tokyo? He wouldn't be there for no reason right? Perhaps he's coming in as a conqueror to claim the head. Will we get the sequel for Ghost Of Tsushima. Where instead of Mongols , Japan's now being invaded by MS Robots from the future :D
Not robots from the future, just uncle Phil in a Spartan II full armor set! Fight me.

Microsoft has been very hands off with their acquisitions.

But if this is indeed true, they need to be very hands on. Sega is a fucking husk of a company these days lol. Shit needs an overhaul.

Microsoft has a ton of money to burn, but the Xbox division is not a major part of Microsoft. Each division gets its own budget allocated to it, Xbox is not going to be pilfering money from Azure for example.

That being said I am not downplaying how much money Microsoft has, but lets not pretend they can buy all the publishers.

Microsoft just spent 7.5 billion. $7,500,000,000

And MS big boss who doesn’t really game much said he is ready to buy more studios. Expect more. They aren’t stopping.

What time is it?

Acquiring Sega wouldn't be about selling Xbox hardware in any territory, much less Japan. Xbox hardware isn't the future for Microsoft, Game Pass is the focus. If Sega's stable of IP and developers aid in bolstering that offering and if they can be acquired for a reasonable price, Microsoft will pull the trigger. Eventually they'll want Game Pass to be as hardware agnostic as a Netflix or Hulu app.

This is a "can't see the forest for the trees" situation.

If this rumor did turn out to be true, I don’t know how accepting Japanese gamers would be to the acquisition. They would need to present it as something else, like an “unprecedented partnership” or something similar and put Segas name in big spots In all the marketing.

I prefer achievements but the platinum trophy is great to keep track of the game you completed 100%.
they added a gem and a sound for rare achievements but they could go further like saphir >emerald > ruby > diamond.
(I don’t know the rarity of the gems, so might another order)

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
If it somehow translates into a remake of Panzer Dragoon Saga, or brand new Panzer Dragoon RPG. I'm totally completely favorable of this acquisition.

Do it Microsoft!

At this rate those almoat 200 million users on sony and nintendo wont have anything to play other than first parties.

At this rate all these devs will cater to 60 million users.

At this rate microsoft will realise we need those 200 million gamers to play our titles.

At this rate you will see game pass on sony and nintendo.

Microsoft and sega??
I still remember all the sega exclusives on original xbox and look it didnt do anything.

This is really just about monopoly to turn gaming into the next windows.

Cant believe every 4chan rumor, while 4chan had been right sometimes, they’ve been very wrong at other times.

FF has always been associated with PS.
Spider-man is basically a Sony character

I will forever associate FF to Nintendo, and still blame the N64 for why SquareEnix(Squaresoft at the time) went with Sony.

No, but I'd like someone to do something with Sega's older IP's. I mean, Sega is ignoring them,
You're talking of the past, there are minimum 10 revivals recently released, or on the road.
Even when they don't publish a game like Streets of Rage 4, they help for the development. (Spike Out, Yakuza Team was involved)

Sega ignoring his franchises is over.
(Chuchu Universe, New Sakura Wars, Valkyria 4, PSO New Genesis, Panzer Dragoon Remakes, Space Channel VR, House of the Dead Scarlet and the upcoming Monkey Ball game...)

I just want all of Shining Force 3 in English, or a real Shining Force game. Do love Streets of Rage 4 though.

I was a Nintendo fan back then...I loved my N64 and Gamecube after.
I was as well, I grew up on NES and SNES, enjoyed the N64 a lot but you have to wonder how different things would be if Nintendo went with discs instead of the cartridge format for their system after the SNES.

If Microsoft buys Sega, nothing will change for Shining Force. It's not a money issue since Takahashi brothers, Camelot were not historical part of Sega. Sure, they worked at Sega for a few years but they were in the first place from Enix and worked longer with Nintendo.(they had a argument with old Sega) They even have exclusivity contracts with them.
Working with Camelot again will Be complicated.

Hopefuly, there are tons of new projects regarding the old franchises (Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder is coming back, duuuuude), so enjoy them but put your expectations low for Shining Force.(the other developper of the franchise, Climax, is Dead. Like the illustrator of Camelot/Shining Force 3. As you Can see, even if Sega would find good staff in house for a sequel, it wouldn't be the same without Climax, Camelot or the dead developers)

I loved the mini-discs in the gamecube, I thought they were so futuristic at the time.
Yeah, Nes was my first console too. Hard to know how it would go if they did though....

10 to 20 games are not enough to reverse the war and break the wall of patriotism.

Sega pushed hundreds of Japanese productions from Megadrive to Dreamcast to have one, only one successful console, the Saturn...
