You can call it what ever you want checkerboard rendering , TAAU, DLSS any other marketing name.They all do the same damn things.

I'm curious ... if RDNA2 allows such high-clocking ... why didn't MS did the same with the Series X which would produce even MORE TFs at higher clock speeds, especially since it's 'safe' to do so? They couldn't invest as much on a solid cooling solution? And if that high-clocking on the PS5 is 'normal' for RDNA2, why DOES it need a custom-made high quality cooling solution?

Not a tech guy, I'm just wondering.

Its just power consumption.

These coming consoles target somewhere around 150W TDP. For that they’ll have a PSU specced around 250 to 300W.

For Xsex to use those high clocks, they’d need cooling and power supply bumped up to more like 300 W TDP and a 500 or 600W PSU! That would make their box bigger, louder, uglier and unsellable as a piece of living room consumer electronics. They’d be asking people to put a PC from factor box in their living room.

Sony chose reduced CUs counts, implemented system power monitoring with variable clock, and used smartshift to gain the ability to run at the clock speeds they have. That technology cost them a lot of time and effort to develop.

MS didn’t do all that - they chose a lower fixed clock with more CUs instead to fit the cooling, form factor and overall hardware budget they had.

That's pretty nice to be honest. Also even at 1440P they are using techniques to produce a really clear and crisp image. No claims of soupiness here.
Yep, no complaints regarding image quality here. I honestly thought it was 2160p or close to it when I watched the 4K footage after the stream was over. Same for the UE5 demo.

Well, they had to go out of their way to judge a Youtube video, and HAD to point out that in their opinion is in 1440p and without ray tracing. So what can i tell you? It's on the borderline.

Yeah, but they did it on a youtube video AND on a beta/alpha demo. It's at the same level of the Halo Infinite lighting excuse: They felt they had to do something and, at this stage, it's all unconfirmed rumor.

Honestly I don't think they are wrong per se, but I don't trust the possible ulterior motive. Call me paranoid, but they have history by now :(

Thomas Morgan does the breakdown. Pretty straightforward. No opinion, just stating facts that he sees, and suggests that certain things will probably be improved later, by noting that it's still early footage.
In other words, how all the other technical breakdown videos should be.

I think they might get rid of world and character tendency. That was never really a well thought out or well implemented mechanic.

We’d all love the see the cut sixth archstone world reinstated. The demo video showed it still broken, but they could have edited out the change to make it a surprise 🤞

Maybe it comes as dlc?

Hopefully. I'd be quite surprised if we never see it at all. From clearly put a lot of work into the Northern Limit, and there was probably enough there to flesh out into a complete level. DLC is the most likely means of getting it, but I'd love it if they were keeping it back as a surprise for the main game. Would certainly sell even more copies of it, to players who have already beaten the 2009 version.

...in all seriousness, thanks for the back up on that. I try to be as fair on here as possible, and that tag was weighing me down a wee bit.

We already know Xbox has 15.3 billion transistors, they both have the same fabrication process (7nm) xbox has 3328 cores and ps5 has 2304 cores
(15.3/3328)*2304 = 10.59
you get the same value if you calculate it using CUs or die size

So only the GPU ALUs in the shader array use transistors? You're missing the very important fact that the CPU, caches, GPU front end, fixed function hardware, I/O and memory controllers etc etc all require transistors.

That 15.3 billion transistors is for the entire APU die, and the different GPU, CPU, memory controller and I/O logic IP blocks all have different transistor densities. So there's no way to easily estimate the transistor count of the PS5 APU based on an extremely overly simplistic ratio of GPU stream processors.

The PS5 APU has an entire I/O co-processor with an SRAM array (SRAM is very dense compared to logic) and Tempest audio engine that the XSX APU doesn't have. So even if the rest of the APUs were identical (and they aren't) if only for those alone, your simple ratio would be invalid.

The fascinating thing is both Demon's Souls and Miles Morales will probably look even better on launch day.

Those trailers could've been cut weeks or even a month prior, since the original plan was August for that SoP I think.

Visuals usually improve by the final product on Day 1, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are even more impressive at launch.
