A bit of a double loss on this one. Dirt 5 looks fun (not brilliant, but fun), and the saves thing seems anachronistic with how well the consoles and their upgrades this gen handle things, as well as Series X carrying that forward, or even something like like One being able to pull a Bioshock save from the cloud from over a decade ago.
Definitely an interesting generation. We’re starting to see the battle lines, priorities, strengths, and weaknesses drawn between the two.

I wonder why this seems to be an issue, is it because of technical/infrastructural stuff (which would be weird since sony already "running" their onlineservices on azure), is this on the devs or on sony?
Anyway personally i couldn´t care less, because i wont be affected of this, since i´ll just play cross gen titles on the new machines anyway.

Always online bullshit I'm betting. Lost some progress a few times because of "discrepancies" between the online and local save files On Dirt Rally 2. So I'm not surprised they can't make it work cross gen. They can't get it to work on one console.

It appears the save transfer function was a late addition to the SDK, the PS5 save states may work differently to allow functions to jump straight to a particular boss, or level etc.. I believe Sony have a solution, but there have been a few compatibility issues. Id wait a few weeks, thing may change

Maybe, might have something to do with being able to share saves and people jumping in where you left off. I remember there was a patent for this.
That doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't it be able to use the PS4 save file then?

I always thought smart delivery was a fancy name for "well obviously that's how it'll work" delivery. But nope, sounds like Sony really dropped the ball compared to Microsoft here.
I presume saves are encrypted and the keys are stored on the hardware, so they can't decrypt and transfer in the cloud. But surely they could allow a direct transfer from PS4 to PS5, even the PS4 to PS4 transfer also did the encryption keys.
My guess is they could do it, but don't have the time to get it into the firmware before release.

This is on Sony not the developers, they are managing just fine to have the saves accessible between XB1 and Series X.

Microsoft is using software emulation, PS5 has 2 HW BC modes for PS4 and Pro. It also have boost mode but I think that is so far limited to 100 games I think ?

It's not. The remaster is not the "same" game as the original. The PS4 version will transfer the saves over to the PS5 if you playing it on the PS5.

It does not make any difference whether it is SW or HW mode. Only limited BC games will get some advantage from the next gen console. Better to wait and buy next gen version only IMO
