Minecraft Steve revealed for Smash Bros Ultimate

My nephews will be hyped to the moon. They love Smash Bros., Mario and Pokémon in particular, and love Minecraft. They will probably feel like me when I was a kid and saw Marvel Super Heroes in the arcade. Could not believe the Capcom x Marvel partnership.

I like classic franchises a ton and was rooting for Hayabusa to enter Smash Bros to have a Belmont x Hayabusa. But dudes, Steve deserves the zoomer praise and its spot in the gaming history. His game is revolutionary and impacted gaming in the same vein our 8-16 bits games did in the past.

I don't know if Smash bros. is more of a party game or fighting game but one thing is sure: it is a celebration of gaming. Steve deserves to be there.

Yeah but it's Microsoft 1st Party :messenger_tears_of_joy: A direct competitor depending on how you look at it. Either way, i'm glad at least Xbox & Nintendo know how to be friendly with each other.

The only reason this character even exists in his own game is so that people can tell where you're standing in multiplayer. Total non-character.

Ugh. I don't really have any interest in this character.

He doesn't fit, he looks bad, he's like 2 years old in the gaming sphere...yeah not my cup of tea.

I hate when we get modern characters like Bayonetta and Steve. Snake never fit in Smash either but at least he's a true gaming icon. Now I know Steve is an icon, but he's also not very old.

Not crazy about this choice personally even if it's a big get and a smart financial move.

Not sure if I'll buy or not. I got Bayo for Smash 4 and I couldn't stand her. In the end I woulda preferred NOT having her.

There are countless big names in gaming that should have got a shot to be in smash. Steve should have been there to begin with over Banjo, now Microsoft are up two roster spots in smash. I’m salty but it it’s bullshit.

Well, Banjo is still associated with Nintendo, because the only real popular Banjo games were N64 games.

Minecraft is super popular on Switch, so I don't see that as any different than Sonic or Mega Man being in Smash.

Remember there is also a character in Smash from a game that is exclusive to PlayStation.

Makes a lot of sense, Smash outside of Nintendo side characters like Captain Falcon and the Fire Emblem gang, only allow in top level gaming icons, he fits in with Snake, Sonic, Ryu Cloud and Belmont very well

That Final Fight guy was a bit of an outlier in that he isnt super famous but ismt he like SNKs big icon?

This is crazy (In a good way)! Never would have thought about Steve even being an option before. But Nintendo keep bringing in new characters and forming unexpected collaborations, like with Banjo or Cloud (at the time it was crazy because ff7 and beyond had never been on a nintendo console before).

It makes sense but Steve is not something to get excited about. It's probably b/c I couldn't give any less of a fuck about minecraft than I already do but yeah, it'll get more eyes on Smash Ultimate so that's good.

Did not see this one coming, but like it. MC was/is massive and for those >25 probably some of their fondest gaming memories. Also he fits the "feel" of Smash. Compares to like if Kratos popped up.

Just think, once Microsoft buys Sega, they'll have Banjo, Vault-Dweller (mii fighter costume), Sonic, Joker, and Bayonetta in Smash.

Doom Slayer is a shoe-in too, as is Master Chief.

It's all building up to the announcement of Microsoft outright buying Nintendo. The announcement will be made on Wednesday :messenger_winking:

Really fantastic pick. Fits right in with Nintendo’s family-friendly audience, and will likely have the most unique play style yet.

If MS is giving more reps, I hope they’re more Ori/Rare than Master Chief/Doomguy. Save them for KI.

As an adult, I'm disappointed that it wasn't a character more fitting and exciting (such as Crash or Dante).

My nephew, who is a child, is very excited for this new DLC pick. I think we do all have to remind ourselves that Smash is a children's party fighting game sometimes.

Why are so many people acting so surprised? It was beyond obvious "the minecraft guy" would join Smash. It was so blantantly obvious that - to me - it actually created anti-hype, so when I saw him revealed, I actually wanted him to be gone again.
