3-3.5 years of development is 'too soon'? The first one took 5 years because they had to reboot the entire series and ran into creative issues.

I'm pretty confident I've heard Barlog say, 'The next ones wont take as long' or something along that nature. The game was in a terrible spot as well. If anyone has not watched, Raising Kratos, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

AAAs need at least 6 years and 500 Million now in order to released.

We just know nothing about the game. No name, or if its even GoW 2, or just a Miles Morales / Lost Legacy style GoW 1.5 game. We have no idea what it is yet.

Sony usually wait to announce a new game until it AT LEAST has a title. They didn't even manage that yet.

Notice how every new game Sony has announced so far is on this page? Except... GoW. Even every 3rd party game from their 2 big showcases is on their.. but no God of War.

I'm skeptical.
Looks like more COVID lock downs will make it much harder even if they could make 2021. But they turned out a great launch despite COVID.

Nah, I think they're onto something here, just look at Halo Infinite...

I am sure the time to finish games will be reduced. AI creeps into every Industry and it will revolutionize game development. This is not the far future. It is happening now. :messenger_smiling_hearts:
And with the hardware pushing IO to the max the need for LODs is becoming a thing of the past. Everything is streamlined. BELIEVE

Hard to Kill
I haven't bought one yet. Do you recommend them? Do you think 3D sound will make it worth investing in a premium heaset like Sony's XM4?
I don't know for the ps5 but I have the Xm2 and for every day life they are amazing.Althouh I'll share the concern of other because I don't know if they'll work without a dongle, maybe plugged in the controller.
Other than that, battery life is probably the best in the market, excellent audio quality and noise cancelling.
If I were you and would use it only on the ps5 I'd wait for some tests but if the ps5 is only a side use, they're great headphones.
And if you get them try some 3d audio app like deezer on free trial. You'll get a taste of what to expect with the ps5 and you can already use a HRTF profil on them.

Ray tracing is being used for lighting and shadows, but not for reflections as it's too expensive at 60fps. Simple, we are done here.
Is it too expensive in render time? or is it too expensive in dev time for an environment that will recursively reflect so little that using a alternative technique provides virtual the same result at a fraction of the development and render time cost?

edit:

When I say development time, I'm referring to the time required to use RT with all the other fx and iteratively check - with each artistic change - that the RT reflections aren't going to tank the frame-rate in some boundary check or obscure situations when testers are testing.

Your triggered game is on point. And what a waste of text since my issue is with false advertising, not how pretty the gwaphics are

You should focus your negative energy at Microsoft, Sony has delivered for their customers.

I get you are hurt and upset this generation did not work out to be the win you were hoping for, but that's not my fault, nor is its Sony's.

Get on Twitter, find big man phil, or dealer or one of those and vent at them dude.

i am not a pixel counter, but someone in dev team and a pro tech analysis saying that version is 1440p is for sure more reliable than some fanboy on a forum pixel counting a image off a video 😆😆😆 get a grip kid

people like you are why twitter is a hell hole with bunch of ignorant idiots dont value expertise and facts

Not sure about that, if we juice everything out of that teaser which was shown during the Playstation showcase it's pretty obvious it's a sequel to the 2018 game. No way would Sony turn one of their major first party games into a "smaller title". I don't think that was a leak or rumour btw it may have just been someone trying to give an explanation as to why it's coming so soon. Enough from me regarding God of War sequel, I'm digressing from the thread topic lol
Just remember, the studios decided to release Lost Legacy and Miles Morales as standalone games and not Sony. I can't see Cory/SSM wanting the next GoW game to be a smaller title because Cory already has the story for the trilogy laid out.

It also could just be part of how Sony AAA game dev is changing. Studios may want to make some smaller games in between their bigger releases in order to put out a few more games over each generation.

Smaller budgets, shorter game dev cycle, more games shipped, better sales, etc.

TBH why would Sony blow their load? Push back whatever you can. Microsoft will eventually have games. Maybe keep God of War to go against Halo? for marketing purposes
Thats not how it works.
1. Sony is focused on keeping their customers happy and to move as many people as possible over to the PS5 as soon as possible. Simply to keep their economy strong.
2. By the time microsoft actually puts out games their console(s) could have very well flopped. Why would Sony plan out and maybe delay their development cycles for some hypothetical scenarios? If you are doing well you just keep going. No reason to mind the incredible weak first party from microsoft.
3. Halo has very little pull left.

In the wild? No. There's no such thing as silence, which is why companies build these.

And nice strawman. The point is not that the thing is not quiet, it most likely is. The thing is that your boyfriend Jeff needed to say the microphone doesn't even pick it up. That's bullshit for retards like you that gobble it up.
Simple recap you angry, angry little man...

1) He says that his mic doesn't pick up the sound of a Series X running.
2) You said he's lying.
3) His claim is perfectly believable if the mic is a reasonable distance away, say on his desk in the same room. I could say the exact same about the One X.
4) I hope that's a photo of you in that room, it's where you belong. Maybe complete the ensemble with a straight jacket?

And that is what I'm telling you is not possible, not if measured properly. Sound, regardless of its intensity, produces an atmospheric pressure variation, SPL measures that, doing it so on dB. What it is considered to be the lowest pressure change affecting sound the human ear is able to discern is around 20µPa (which is a pretty low value). Now, that's only an ideal case, and it's like that mainly for sound contained on a frequency range between 2 and 4 khz. For lower or higher frequency ranges, that pressure would have to be higher for the human ear to pick that up, so, even in the case that you wouldn't hear a sound properly, even then, it wouldn't mean that the resultant value in SPL is 0dB. So that you might have a more approximate idea, the sound of a person with a quiet breathing is around 10dB. That's why I'm telling you that a fan moving constantly is certainly going to be picked up, again, if measured properly and with the correct equipment, of course.

I'm sure this is all great audio info, very interesting and much appreciated, but it's beside the point.

If you took a good quality mic, pointed it at the exhaust port of a Series X (and had it in reasonably close proximity), would you be able to hear and record it? Yes, of course.

If you put a typical $300 mic on a desk in the same room, say 10 feet away, and pressed record, would the recording meter show anything or would it sit in it's 'zero' position?

It may well sit at zero, like this waveform of a simple test I just did.

8PXrD3T.jpg

This was a continuous recording made in a quiet room with a One X operating. I was sitting on a couch across the room, so fairly typical. The peaks are me moving or clicking my fingers, the bits in-between show nothing on the meter at all.

I cannot hear the console operating.

If I listen to that recording I can hear ambience in the quiet parts but nothing that I could identify reliably as the One X operating.

What Jez said was not controversial. He had an open mic in the same room as an operating Series X console and his recording meter was showing nothing as per the above example. Big deal, right? Totally believable and easily reproducible.

They did announce the 2021 date and it's not like Sony first parties have a track record like CDPR lol regardless if they were ballsy enough to announce that 2021 date considering the shit show this year has been also likely means they've made significant progress in production which would mean they have footage ready. I guess we'll wait and see.

Yeah, I would expect as well that we'd see something before the end of the year. Probably a VERY limited teaser at this point and probably not gameplay, but something. Then again, with Covid and the holidays...might be pushed to early 2021.

Well, the last GoW was released in April 2018. Probably they've been working on it since then, maybe even a couple months before but that was probably just a lot of planning and the direction of the game, so let's say the game is aiming for a late 2021 release that would make at least 3.5 years of development time. I'd say this is more than enough for a sequel where they know where to go and what to do.
Hell, Death Stranding was made in less than 4 years and the studio started from scratch, this is the proof that with a clear direction (and money) you can do these massive projects relatively fast.

I hope you're right, I fucking love God of War. Can't wait for the next one.

Why are devs wasting resources on reflections then? Id say GI and shadows have a way bigger impact on a games visuals unless you're adding puddles everywhere
RT reflection when done right adds tons of immersion. just look around your room and pay attention to the reflections. Our eyes and brains are used to those details. It is how we tell whether the world is real or not. Games will eventually reproduce all those details and trick our minds. in around 5 years, we will get to that point. That’s when ps6 comes.

So anyone else here have a bunch of their older Xbox 360 and OG Xbox games not be playable right now on XB1? Titles like Black, BF Bad Company, Bejewled 2 and many more all say coming soon in my games and apps and won't let me launch them. This have anything to do with Series X?

Yeah, but this doesn’t make sense for GoW as the ending of the first game was clearly the setting for Ragnarok. I think a lot of people would be pissed if the next game was just a pre-Ragnarok small game.

In the Raising Kratos documentary they say they made most of the game after the E3 2016 demo, or something like that. That’s 2 years for the bulk of development. If you take into account that this time around they don’t have to figure it out how a new God of War game would look like, 3 years are more than enough granted they’ve adapted to the Working from Home scenario.

I remember when pixel shaders were the new kid on the block, and suddenly every surface was a shiny mess! Hopefully things will calm down over the next year or so and we will see more subtle use of RT. I agree RT GI can greatly improve a scenes look, and I don't need to see my face in every puddle!

Also it is harder to tell if shadows are ray traced or if they are using RT GI to the naked eye, when you can get close approximation from using traditional methods, with less performance cost. RT reflections are much easier to spot.

An expensive microphone, which will have a much higher range than a cheaper one. He lied, plain and simple. Even the 120mm fan working will produce measurable sound. But you're adamant it's not, even after proving to be a fucking ignorant when it comes to sound. Please come back when you've worked sound in sporting events and have mixed and mastered music.

And that's an anechoic chamber, you absolute lemon.
